After the exhausting day as I finally go to bed, my mind is filled with the events that happened since morning. My life has turned troublesome in a single day with Charlotte getting on my nerves again through one of her friends and Aaron nailing the job where I work. Or used to!

There's no way in hell that uncle Marcel will find me at front desk tomorrow morning, really not happening. I know I told him that I'll start working for someone else but he knows that no one will spare me a minute of theirs other than that bakery down the lane. But, I have experience now, that too working for months in such renowned publishing house can definitely get me a job somewhere else, right?

I wish I could seek Ella's help but she owns her own small boutique which she runs with Connor's another bitchy friend whom I absolutely despise. This job area is totally out of her reach.

Ella! She fucking called me today and I hung up on her when she wanted to grab lunch. I reach for my phone and dial Ella's number and all I hear is a groaning Connor in the background, cursing me out.

"Diana, look at the time! Not an appropriate one to call your friend who shares an apartment with her boyfriend." She says with an annoyed tone and I laugh.

"I am not going to apologise for spoiling Connor's boner but I am sorry that I couldn't grab lunch today, how about tomorrow?" I ask and she laughs a little.

"Yes, see you tomorrow. Bye now."

"Have nice sex." I laugh in the phone before hanging up.

After I keep my phone aside, a smile is still there on my face as I'm remembered of the time when I first met Ella. She was different, not like me or any other girl that you'll easily come around. To put it in simple words - she was a nerd who had her head too deep inside the books to have any outlook on life.

And Connor, he was the playboy who was wrapped around her finger just days after they casually started dating. They've been together since two years and I came across them in a party, individually. Ella looked too out of place and that was my cue to make her feel even more uncomfortable. But, Connor came to her rescue and we ended up arguing like cats and dogs which still continues to this day and since then, Ella has been the one to break our fight. He was clearly looking for one night stand at that time, impressing a girl by being her knight in shining armour but that's just how their friendship began with each other and mine with Ella.

Connor and I didn't talk much until years later when they were officially together. But now, I'm used to them being a part of my life. With the thoughts of my two idiot friends in mind I close my eyes and doze off.

What feels like just half an hour later, my phone starts ringing and I groan loudly before answering it without looking at the caller ID.

"It's not 911, wrong number!" I say, clearly annoyed and hear a giggle on the other end.

"Even in sickness, you manage to make me laugh with that sassiness."

I frown as I rub my eyes and speak again, "Who's on the line?"

"Lucy,"

"Ahh! Why are you ruining my sleep?"

There's a minute of silence on the other hand which almost makes me doze off again but then I hear her sigh.

"I'm sick so you gotta give full day today, I'm really sorry. It's just fever and headache so if you cannot manage it, let me know, I'll come."

My first reaction is to groan again until I'm reminded of the fact that I promised myself that I won't ever step into that office again.

"Sorry to disappoint you but I don't work there anymore," I tell her as I close my eyes.

"What?" She practically screams and I have to make some distance between my phone and my ear.

"I quit the job, lady!" I shout back.

"And Mr. Wilson accepted your resignation letter?" She asked thoughtfully and I slammed my head against the headboard.

Of course that would be a problem. He wouldn't do that, he wouldn't let me leave the job! I absolutely hate my life.

"Err, he didn't." I say, scratching my head.

"Thought so. Will you work full day, please?" She sounds desperate and though I can be a bitch in this whole situation, she does sound sick.

"Okay. At least I don't have to get up for couple of hours." I sigh.

Her voice is hesitated as she starts to speak, "It's already six thirty in the morning Diana."

"Oh, no no no! You're kidding, right? I just slept like half an hour ago."

I get out of my comforter and go to the window of my room, pulling back the curtains and indeed, it's bright outside.

"You slept at six in the morning?"

"No, idiot! I slept late but not that late. Fuck this!"

"Are you on your pills again?" She asks and her question catches me off guard.

She knows too much for someone I dislike but then she's the only person in office who really knows stuff but that doesn't changes how I feel about her.

"Nope, I'm not. And also, don't take everything Mr. Wilson tells you that seriously." I snap at her and hang up.

A sigh escapes my lips as I cross my arms in front of my chest and stare outside my window. The road is mostly clear this morning but there's a slight breeze outside about which I can tell as I see the branches of trees moving.

I look at the clock and realise that I've to get ready soon so I begin with my morning rituals as I make coffee for myself.

It's already fifteen past eight when I'm half an hour away from the office and I drive like a crazy woman to make it on time. I drop a message to Ella about how I have to work whole day, she's smart enough to understand what I mean but then again, I hate to cancel lunch with her.

Fortunately, I am just fifteen minutes late and Uncle Marcel is out of site. He anyway comes at nine whereas I, along with everyone else have to report at eight thirty.

I quickly make my way to my desk and get engrossed in few files that are not important enough for Uncle Marcel's attention but not entirely useless. It makes me feel relieved when neither of the employee greets me as they presume I'm busy. To be honest, I hate everyone in here because all of them think so fucking highly of themselves that it gets on my nerves all the time.

My gaze is fixated on the computer screen when I hear someone clearing their throat and I look up to find Uncle Marcel.

"Morning Sir," I greet him with a smile and he nods in return before he looks to his side and my eyes finally fall on Aaron.

Of fucking course!

"Diana, initially Lucy was supposed to give Aaron a tour of the office but since she called in sick, I would like you to take the responsibility." He orders in his bossy tone which I can never say no to but I never back down before trying.

"Sir, I do not mean to offend you but I've got a lot of work especially with Lucy being on leave. I hope you understand my situation and ask someone else to help Mr. McCall," I try to decline as politely as possible but the way Uncle Marcel is staring at me, I know that I am trapped.

"I do not take no for an answer Diana, show him around." He passes me a tight lipped smile before walking away.

"Really?" I roll my eyes at Aaron who gives me a baffled look.

"What did I do now?"

"You should've stayed in California like rest of my problems." I murmur to myself before getting up from my chair.

He follows me and within a minute I reach his cubicle desk. Two files are already there beside his computer and I glance at them and then place them in his hands.

"Your work for today, finish it by five in the evening and then you're free to go. Also, you'll get an hour break if you want to grab lunch or whatever. There's coffee machine just few steps away from front desk if you ever need it," I say and take a deep breath.

There was no way in hell I was going to roam around with him in office, a virtual tour should be good enough for him.

"Is that all?" He asks, adjusting his collar and I think if I missed out anything.

"I guess. If you need to know anything else, don't bother me. Just ask your colleagues and here's an advice, make friends here or otherwise it's going to be boring as fuck."

He gives a small smile and nods his head, "Thank you."

"Also Aaron, we just work together and we don't know each other outside this building, okay?" I tell him, not even trying to keep my bitchy tone aside.

His face falls down a bit and he looks into my eyes and then blinks a few times, "Yes, sure."

"All the best for your first day," I tell him, trying to sound as professional as possible and leave him to get back at my desk.

After an hour or so, I finish my work and when I have nothing else to do, I even clean my whole desk.

I have never felt this unproductive at work ever and yet here I am, scrolling through our company's website, looking for anything interesting to catch my eye. But then I look up to find Aaron standing in front of my desk and I sigh.

"What do you want?" I ask, keeping my palm under my chin.

"It's Derek, he wants to talk to you and complains that your phone isn't reachable." He informs me and I roll my eyes.

"Why did you tell him that we work together?"

"Because my brother was interested to know where I work?" He gives me a baffled look.

"Why did you tell him I work here?"

"I thought he already knew so I just casually mentioned you?"

This guy was either too dumb or extremely naive to figure things out. No matter what intellectual qualities he lacked, he did get on my nerves a lot.

"Well, tell him I quit the job and don't work here anymore."

He parts his lips to say something and I shush him, "Just do as I say Aaron. I don't like mixing up my personal and professional live together, got it? It's best if Derek doesn't knows where I work."

He looks at me with a thoughtful look on his features, "You're weird," he mentions.

"Also, really fucking sexy. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need time to get bored." I give him my sinister smile and he scoffs.

"Just last question, people here are fucking rude so will you mind telling me a nice place to eat nearby?"

I think for two minutes before finally giving him an answer, I tell him about a nice Italian place which is just two minutes away from our office building and he thanks me before getting back to work.

I get busy with the emails and responding back to them when I finally realize that almost everyone has left for their lunch and many have come back. My eyes flicker back to the finance department area and I see Aaron engrossed in his work.

To be honest, I hate going to eat alone but I am used to the idea of it but asking Aaron to eat with me wouldn't be so bad, I guess. I close my computer and walk up to him and the clicking noise of my heels makes him look up to me.

"Do you want to go eat?" I ask him, looking directly in his eyes.

"With you?" His voice is surprised and I don't blame the guy. I haven't been nice to him since the day we met.

And I did tell him to not talk to me outside this building. Why am I contradicting myself right now?

"Lucy is on leave so I'm going to go alone anyway, do you want to come?"

This is probably the most awkward thing I have ever done but I had to remind myself that we weren't in high school where we could play the hate card. We work together and we need to learn how to at least manage a civil conversation together.

Well, to be honest, Aaron already knows how to do that, I just have to work on my social skills.

"Sure, just give me a minute." He gives me a pleasant smile and I nod.

He manages the papers on his table and keeps them on one side before picking up his phone and getting up. He gestures me to take the lead and I do as we walk towards the lift.

Just as we reach there, Uncle Marcel enters the lift too and I curse under my breath.

"Going out for lunch, you two?" He questions with a smile.

He never sees me with a company and when he does, its usually someone covered in tattoos which totally goes against his approval. So, I am sure when I tell him that indeed we're going out for lunch, he seems pleased.

"I'm headed home Diana, your Aunt and I need to be somewhere. Just call me if anything important comes up."

"Sure Sir."

When we reach the ground floor, I get out of that small space as quickly as possible while Aaron stays back to converse with Uncle Marcel. I wait outside the building for Aaron and my mind goes back to the time I kissed him out of nowhere and just for a nanosecond I feel guilty which then it's replaced by a smirk on my face. It sure as hell was fun to catch him off guard but I might as well not want to repeat that in future.

"Why did you run so far from there?" I hear his voice behind me and I turn around.

"Probably because I'm starving, let's go now." I try not to snap at him.

We walk side by side and when we reach the food place, I lead him in. We get a table by the window and I feel glad about it. At least when we won't have anything to talk about, I could stare at the traffic outside.

After we give our order to the waiter, there is an awkward silence that sets in and just by glancing at Aaron, I know I'll have to be the ice breaker.

"How do you plan on managing college and internship together?" I ask and just in a moment, I have all his attention.

"Well, I will be going to college two days a week and the rest, I'll be managing the internship."

That's it, he doesn't have anything else to say? What am I supposed to ask him now? Of course I don't want this conversation to turn on me because I don't like to talk about myself. There's not much to know after all.

"That sounds good. Did you work when you were in California?"

The word leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and I take a sip of water before setting my eyes on him again. But before he can respond, we get our food and I immediately start eating because of how hungry I really felt.

"Yes, I did."

"Huh?"

"I worked in California as well but I like it better here."

I nod at his answer plainly because I agree with him. California was a like a different world to me, I prefer this one, where I am myself.

"I don't mean to sound rude but you should live a little while you're here. Don't you have college parties?" I say, changing the topic completely which I am sure he notices as well as he eyes me.

"I do but I'm not the type of guy who goes to parties." He gives me a small smile.

"C'mon Aaron, parties are always fun."

"Easy for you to say, you're a social butterfly after all." He says and I choke on my food.

He quickly offers me his glass of water and I gulp all of it down. Social butterfly? What exactly gave him the idea that I am that kind?

"Are you okay?" He asks as his hands brushes with mine a little.

"Yes, just caught off guard. Why would you call me that?"

He thinks for a second before speaking, "Probably because you're good with people?"

I smile as I keep my elbow on the table, my hand under my chin as I stare right into his eyes, "Am I, Aaron?"

He knows I'm far from 'good with people'. Just because I sleep with guys after getting drunk does not makes me social.

"At least you go to parties." He argues and I laugh.

"Yes, to get drunk."

"Do you want to get drunk this weekend? Someone I know is throwing a party."

He probably doesn't realize what he's saying because as soon as the words leave his mouth, he starts stuttering and I smile at his misery.

"Just let me know where and there better be hot guys and great booze." I wink at him and he grins.
