Chapter 13

A small typo in the last chapter. Samaira is returning to UAE after 4 weeks.
........................********......................

"Do you have any idea about what you are doing? "Samaira hissed as she bandaged Ayush's fingers.

"No."he replied nonchalantly.

"Oh yeah! You won't. Because you are broken and none of us are. Right? "she hissed again as she tightened the bandage.

"Look.. I know how it feels to lose your.... wife.. You know that I do. And I know how it feels when you recollect the memories that you spent with her."she stopped abruptly and stood up.

"I don't want to kidnap your daughter and make her stay with me. And then make her forget you. I know you won't be able to stay away from your child when you've lost your better half. The same reason why I denied Naveen from taking any of my kids with him. He too doesn't give a damn.
I won't take your daughter to Dubai forcefully because I don't want her to feel the void of a father while trying to be her mother. I know how much the presence of both mother and father matters to a child. Though she is not old enough to recognize that, I know how much you are dependent on her. How much your life is dependent on her. "

Ayush was speechless while Samaira continued, "I just can't imagine my best friend's daughter crying for mother's milk when I'm alive. I just don't want any stranger to cradle my Praniti's daughter when I have already made her mine. I just won't be able to watch my own daughter calling a maid her mother when I'm here. I may sound jealous and selfish. But... I just accepted her as my own blood within these days. I know you won't be liking this at all but... But.. I will happily look after her if I'm given a chance. "

Samaira turned her face away as her eyes precipitated heavily.

Ayush could not think of anything at the moment. He was totally stunned by the words of the woman who had her back to him. How could he possibly deny this request? Who could?

--**--
The sky was dark all of a sudden. Soft blue patches of clouds concealed it's brightness.
Mother nature was all ready for a downpour, so were a pair of eyes. The sky did not take too long to rain. Soon the heavy droplets of cold water kissed the earth.
Samaira remembered very well the last time she drenched in the rain. She was abandoned by her husband whom she loved beyond measures.
She closed her eyes tightly. The pain that began from the middle of her eyebrows spread to her knuckles and then her whole head.
Without a second thought, she tilted her face upwards and welcomed the large drops of water to touch her face.

Nature is the best healer ever known.

Her best friend had left this world after giving her a huge responsibility. The duty of looking after her infant daughter and lending a shoulder to her broken husband.

But was she ready? When she was at the verge of demolition, how could she heal another soul which can break down any minute?any second?

Ayush has agreed to take his daughter with her as he thinks she will be looked after better. But Samaira knew how weak he was. If she was in his place, she won't allow anyone to separate her from her children. She also knew Praniti wanted more from her.

But how could she go ahead and ask him to marry her?People would think she is mad. What would society talk about her? They would say she married her friend's husband just a few weeks after her death. The rumours that would follow will be enough to break her completely.

She stood still as she stared at the balcony of the house where she saw him, pouring a drink to a glass.

---***---
The brownish red liquid poured into the glass and he picked it up slowly.

He sat on a chair as he swigged the beer in three gulps. He knew his wife would glare at him.... only if she was.... alive.

He silently stared at her picture in front of him and wondered how his life took such drastic turns.

The person who took seven vows with him and promised to accompany him like his shadow had now disappeared. Just like every shadow  vanishes when there is no light, she too faded away, leaving an unhealable wound in his soul.

He fastened his eyes close as he recollected their moments together. They haunted him yet again as he realized that they can never be retrieved.

Suddenly something struck him hard. She had asked him to look after their daughter and he had proved himself incapable of the responsibility. He couldn't even console her when she cried.

Imagining the sight of his daughter being taken away from him made him open his eyes quickly.

He had asked Samaira if taking his child would later became a liability.

"She is like my own.. No.. She's my own.My daughter can never  become a liability for me. Rather she's a blessing. But... Will you be alright? Without her by your side when you need her the most? "she had retorted.

"I love her more than myself.. Her well being comes before mine. I just have a request....Please make her aware that she has a father... waiting for her. "he had replied. She had nodded as tears welled up in both her eyes.

He gulped down the drink glass by glass and finally found himself floating into a world of dreams, far away from the harsh reality.

---***---
Praniti's mother,Sandhya, picked up a diary that had fallen from Samaira's handbag accidently. She could very well recognize whose it was.

She couldn't stop herself from opening the book and going through it. Each word made tears fall from her eyes.As she finished reading, she saw Samaira staring at her from a distance, shocked. She walked past Samaira who stood contemplating what would happen next, anxiously.

The mother who had lost all her hopes could now see a ray of faith. She felt proud of her own daughter who wanted her husband to marry someone else for his well being and her best friend's well being.

She had witnessed the care and love that Samaira showered on her granddaughter. She also had seen the tenderness with which Samaira consoles the crying baby.

But... How would Samaira and Ayush respond to this? It's just two weeks after Praniti's demise. How could she possibly force these individuals into a bond? Both of them are broken and not in a condition to think straight.

Anyway, both of them have a long way to go. There a are lot more things for them to see in life. Though they have the right to mourn, it should not last forever.

Sandhya walked towards Mohini who was seated on a couch and handed her the diary.

Mohini read it carefully and ended up inhaling a sigh of dejection and agony.

"I think.. this... has to happen... I've been seeing him... And her.... whimper for so long...this has to change. And I too am sure that they'll need each other. Let's think about it, Nithya... You're daughter is a real gem. "Mohini managed to utter and drowned into a saga of thoughts, anticipating possible mistakes in this decision.
