Chapter Thirty-Two: Picture This

Ethan's Pov

It was the next day and I was at school walking in the hallways with Aria and Emily.

Emily showed us the text message she got from A and it's fair to say she was scared as hell.

"Hanna's right. No one owns you, Em. This bitch is just trying to scare you" I reassured her.

Aria nodded as she handed her her phone back.

"Well, it's working" Emily sighed.

I frowned and gently patted her head.

"Did you find out why your brother broke into my garage?" Emily asked.

"He's not talking to me. Or anybody. He won't even return calls from his best friend" Aria sighed.

"What's going on with him?" I asked, worried.

"I have no idea. My parents, they keep turning to me, thinking I'm gonna have the answers" Aria scoffed.

I chuckled lightly at that and patted her head as we stopped walking.

I turned around and smiled when I saw Jason walking with somebody, talking to them about who knows what.

When Emily saw him her eyes widened but when Aria saw him she smiled slightly.

"What's he doing here?" Emily asked.

Jason walked past us as he smiled and waved at both me and Aria.

Me and Aria both smiled and waved back at him before turning back to Emily.

"He counsels kids on substance abuse" I said, answering Emily's question.

"Why is he waving at you?" Emily asked, looking at both me and Aria.

"Because last time I checked he's one of my best friends" I said like it was the obvious answer.

"Cause he had dinner at my house the other night" Aria shrugged.

I nodded at that while Emily kept on looking at Aria suspiciously.

"Did something happen at this dinner that you didn't tell us about?" Emily asked.

"No" Aria said.

"Then why are you blushing?" I teasingly asked.

"Because I had a dream about him last night, ok? Stop asking questions" Aria sighed.

I nodded at that but Emily wasn't stopping with the questions.

"What kind of a dream?" Emily asked.

Aria sighed and started walking as me and Emily walked with her.

"We were in bed, naked. He tried to kiss me, and then I woke up" Aria quickly said, the blush still on her cheeks.

This made mine and Emily's eyes widened as my jaw dropped all the way to the ground.

Aria had a freaking sex dream about Jason Dilaurentis!

Damn, I'm not sure whether to be weirded out or use this as an excuse to tease her for the rest of her life.

"Oh, my God, how could you?" Emily asked in shock.

I snapped out of my shocked state and shot Emily a stern look.

"She can't control what her brain does when she's sleeping, Em. And it's just a dream it didn't actually happen" I defended.

"Ethan, he might be a killer" Emily said.

"Jason is no more dangerous than we thought Toby was a few months ago" Aria defended.

"Yeah and last time I freaking checked Jason isn't a killer, he never was and never will be one" I sternly said.

I swear I'm gonna end up smacking something because of my friends and sisters accusations.

First Toby, now Caleb and now Jason.

I'm sorry but this is slowly getting annoying.

"Toby was never linked to a weapon that could have dented Ali's skull" Emily argued.

"Could have. It doesn't mean he did, there's a difference" I argued back.

Aria nodded while Emily sighed and shook her head.

"Look, I can see why you're attracted to him. He's mysterious and wounded, and we all know you love to fix things, but you're playing with fire" Emily said.

I rolled my eyes at her before looking at Aria with furrowed eyebrows.

"Why are you even dreaming about Jason? Don't you have Ezra?" I asked, confused.

"Because I don't have Ezra" Aria sighed.

This made me and Emily glance at each other before looking back at Aria.

"I just thought it was gonna be so much easier when he went to Hollis. It seems like every time we start to take a step forward, someone or something gets in our way" Aria explained.

I sighed and gently placed my hand on her shoulder to give her some comfort.

"You guys love each other. You just need to find a way to connect again" I softly said.

Emily smiled and nodded. Aria smiled at both of us before sighing.

"Can we keep this conversation between us?" Aria asked.

"My lips are sealed" I smiled.

"If you promise to stay away from Jason" Emily said.

Aria opened her mouth to say something when I held my hand up, stopping her.

"No, you can't do that. You don't get to do that. You're not her mother and you can't forbid her from seeing him. I'll say this over and over again if I have to, Jason isn't a killer, he never was and never will be. He may have had a bad relationship with Ali, but deep down he really did love her and he would never hurt her, let alone murder her. So stop accusing him of something he didn't do" I sternly said.

Emily looked at me in shock while Aria remained silent, but I can see a grateful look in her eyes.

I shook my head and patted Aria's head before leaving.

At Lunch

It was lunch time and I was sitting at a table with the girls. We were just waiting for Hanna to arrive.

Spencer was telling us that Jenna was getting tested to see if she qualifies for a surgery that will help get her sight back.

"She's getting tested to see if she qualifies for a prosthetic cornea transplant" Spencer said.

"English, please" Aria sighed.

"They're gonna see if they can replace the damaged part of her eyes" I sighed.

"What are we talking about?" Hanna asked as she sat down.

"Jenna" Aria said.

We turned around to see Jenna sitting at a nearby table, eating her food.

"They're taking out her eyeballs?" Hanna asked, looking disgusted.

"No, it's not the whole eyeball. It's just the flap over the pupil" Spencer explained and I nodded.

"Could we not talk about eye flaps while we're eating, please?" Emily begged, looking disgusted.

"They really think that this can work?" Aria asked.

"I don't know. Toby says she still needs to take more tests to see if she qualifies, but it's possible" I explained, sighing at the end.

Spencer nodded while Hanna looked at all of us.

"So, if Jenna gets her sight back, does that mean that we're off the hook for" Hanna said, talking about the 'Jenna thing'.

The girls all glanced at each other in confusion but I can also see some hope in their eyes.

And as much as I hate to be that guy, I have to tell them that it could still result into something bad.

"I mean, guilt-wise, maybe, but if you break somebody's leg with a baseball bat, even if that leg heals, you could still be charged with assault" I explained.

Hanna looked scared at that while Emily sighed and shook her head.

"She wouldn't come after us if she still thinks we have Ali's tape" Emily said.

"But we don't. And that'll be much easier for her to figure out if she can see" Spencer said and I nodded.

"Guys, maybe if she can see again, we can stop all this whispering. She'll lose her taste for revenge" Aria said.

"Yeah, or things could get worse" Spencer said.

"It's already so bad. How can it get worse?" Emily asked.

"Well, for one, she will be able to aim a gun" I said, giving her a pointed look.

Emily's eyes widened slightly while Spencer sighed and nodded.

"Look, Spencer's right. Jenna's scary enough with four senses. Can you imagine what she's gonna do to us with all five?" Hanna asked, looking really scared.

Me and the girls glanced at each other before turning around to look at Jenna.

That girl is already scary and quite strong with four senses. If she really does get her sight back, I don't even want to know what she's gonna do with all five.

Late At Night

It was late at night and I was currently sitting on the step of the stairs with Spencer.

Apparently she made her way to Jason's house and she saw him telling a worker that he wasn't allowed to go into his shed. This made her get suspicious and now she's assuming that he's hiding something.

She's currently on the phone with Hanna, she put her on speaker so we could both hear her.

"I'm telling you, Jason is hiding something in there" Spencer said.

"Like what?" Hanna asked.

"I don't know, but he ran across that yard like his head was on fire. He did not want that guy going in the shed" Spencer said.

"So what? It's normal for someone not wanting other people, especially strangers, going into their home or their shed. It's his property and he decides if he wants people there or not" I defended.

I swear this whole 'Jason killed Ali' is really starting to get annoying.

Can't they understand that he's not a bad person. For god sakes, he's not a killer and he definitely didn't murder Alison.

"I gotta go. I-I'll call you later" Hanna said before she hung up.

Spencer sighed and shook her head while I sighed and laid my head against the railing.

A Few Minutes Later

When mom got home Spencer decided to tell her about the hockey stick.

Right now the three of us were in the kitchen. Me and Spencer were sitting on the stools while mom was cutting some cucumbers.

"What do you mean it was buried in the back yard?" Mom asked.

"Toby found it and gave it to Dad" Spencer said and I nodded.

"W-Where is your hockey stick now?" Mom asked.

"Dad burned it, in the fireplace. It's gone" I sighed.

Spencer nodded as we both looked at mom, only to see her sighing as she went back to cutting the cucumbers.

Spencer looked at her weirdly while I remained neutral.

"Mom, why aren't you upset by this?" Spencer asked.

"I'm sure he had a good reason for doing it" Mom said.

"Like what?" Spencer asked.

"Like he probably got scared. After all that we've gone through, I think that that's understandable" Mom said.

"Scared of what? You think this had something to do with Ali?" I asked.

"I-I don't know. But if I found a stick in the yard, I would have probably burned it too" Mom said.

Spencer still looked at her in shock while I shook my head.

I kind of expected this reaction from mom so I can't really say I'm surprised.

"I...I'm guessing he assumed Ian planted it there. We all know that Ian was trying to frame you" Mom said.

That's what the girls thought because they were convinced that he killed Alison.

He may have been a complete creep but he wasn't her killer.

"What if it wasn't Ian that was trying to frame me?" Spencer asked.

"Of course it was Ian. He confessed. He's dead. Case closed" Mom sternly said.

Spencer still looked at her in shock while I rubbed my eyes, clearly tired.

"Ethan, sweetie, can you finish making the salad? I think I left my phone in the car" Mom asked.

"Yeah, sure" I nodded.

I got up and walked towards where mom previously was to finish making the salad.

Mom grabbed her car keys and was about to leave when Spencer stopped her.

"Mom, why is dad so upset that Jason's back?" Spencer asked.

"Yeah, I wanna know that too. Why does dad have a problem with Jason being here? Is it a crime?" I asked.

"All you need to know is that the Dilaurentis family is not to be trusted, Jason included" Mom said.

She turned around and left the house, leaving me and Spencer alone.

Spencer sighed in frustration while I sighed and just continued finishing the salad.

The Next Day

It was the next day and I was currently at Aria's house. I was in her room along with Emily.

Emily called me over and told me to come to Aria's. She explained to me that A made her give Zoey, one of Samara's friends, her number otherwise her lab results would've been released.

Emily went through with what A said, but the problem was that Quinn saw her giving Zoey her number and Emily is freaking out because she thinks that Quinn is going to tell Samara and their relationship will be over.

"Quinn told Samara what she saw. I know it" Emily said as she paced back and forth.

"What could she have told her?" Aria asked.

"I must have looked like I was giving Zoe my number" Emily sighed.

"Em, you were giving Zoe your number" I awkwardly said.

"I'm better bluffing at cards" Emily scoffed, looking outside of Aria's window.

"Look, you have to call Samara" I said and Aria nodded.

"She's called twice already. I'm afraid to pick up" Emily said.

"So call her back" Aria said.

"Look, if Quinn really did tell her something, you're only making it worse by not talking to her" I softly said.

Aria nodded while Emily sighed and nodded her head.

She shook her head before sitting down on a chair.

"I'm sorry I came over so early. And Ethan I'm sorry I woke you up so early and asked you to come over. Were either of you up?" Emily asked.

"It's fine, Em" I reassured her.

"Oh, I was up" Aria sighed, looking nervous.

Me and Emily glanced at each other before looking back at her with knowing looks.

"Another Jason dream?" Emily asked.

"What I wouldn't give for just a nice, simple nightmare, something with a lot of spiders" Aria sighed.

This made me snort while Emily released a small chuckle. Spiders, really?

"It was just a dream. It doesn't mean anything. I'm not thinking about him" Aria said.

This made me frown slightly as I placed my hand on her shoulder.

"When people show up in your dreams, it's not because they want something from you, it's because you want something from them" I explained.

Emily nodded at that while Aria looked more and more nervous.

She was silent for a few seconds before shaking her head and flashing the both of us small smiles.

"I have Ezra. I don't want anything from Jason" Aria said.

I sighed and shook my head at her, not believing what she said for a minute.

I can hear the doubt in her voice as she spoke and I can tell that deep down in her she might, just might, have a tiny crush on Jason.

Whether she wants to admit it or believe it, it's true.

Back At Home

I was back at home and I was sitting in the kitchen with Spencer and Emily.

Emily told me that things didn't work out well between her and Samara and she was completely heartbroken.

I did my best to make her feel better but nothing seemed to work. She was busy staring at a picture of Samara on her phone all day.

Spencer was planning on breaking into Jason's shed and Emily was gonna go with her.

"We should be over there now. I saw him leave a half an hour ago" Spencer whispered in annoyance.

I rolled my eyes at her while looking at Emily, only to see her still staring at Samara's picture.

Spencer realized Emily wasn't paying attention so she turned to her and gently nudged her arm.

"Em, did you hear me?" Spencer asked.

"Sorry, what?" Emily asked as she turned to her.

"Look, things aren't over between you and Samara. You'll find a way to explain what happened" I softly smiled at her.

Spencer nodded while Emily sighed and shook her head.

"Yeah? How do you explain A?" Emily asked.

All I could do was smile softly at her and rub her back up and down.

Spencer sighed before turning around to look at mom.

"Mom" Spencer said.

"Hmm" Mom said.

"You should really get going. You don't want to hit rush hour" Spencer said.

"It's Saturday, honey. There won't be any traffic" Mom said.

"I heard that they were doing construction on the bridge" Spencer said.

"Oh, I was just on it yesterday. There's no work being done" Mom smiled.

I snorted at the annoyed look on my sister's face while Emily quietly giggled.

Mom walked over to where the coats where as Spencer groaned in annoyance before standing up.

"Mom, now what are you doing?" Spencer asked, confused.

"Your sister wants me to bring her that Navy burberry coat" Mom said.

"Melissa's back?" Emily asked.

"No, she's staying in Philly at her condo. It's better for her to be away from Rosewood right now" Mom explained.

I nodded at that.

Melissa really needs a break from Rosewood. Especially after everything that's happened. Mostly with Ian.

"Kiddos, do you have any idea where she left it?" Mom asked both me and Spencer.

"It could be anywhere, but we'll find it, and you can give it to her next week" Spencer shrugged.

"You seem tense. Everything ok?" Mom asked, looking at my sister in worry.

"Yeah. No, everything's fine. We just don't want you to be late for dinner. You know how Melissa gets when her blood sugar drops" I chuckled.

Spencer nodded while mom hummed at that and nodded.

"Mm. Alright, kiddos, I probably should get going" Mom said as she zipped up her bag.

I fondly rolled my eyes at the relieved smile on Spencer's face.

"Have a good night. I left some money on the counter for dinner" Mom smiled.

I smiled at her and nodded before she grabbed her stuff and left.

"Bye, Mrs. Hastings!" Emily yelled.

"Bye, mom" me and Spencer smiled while waving at her.

"Behave yourselves!" Mom yelled.

I laughed at the offended look on Spencer's face while Emily shook her head, laughing slightly.

When we heard the front door close, we turned around to see Spencer gathering her things.

"Come on" Spencer said.

"Ok, sis, what's going on? Do we need to introduce you to decaf?" I sarcastically asked.

Emily laughed while Spencer glared at me and hit my arm.

"No, it's too late for that. Just, come with me" Spencer sighed.

"Where?" Emily asked, confused.

"To find out what Jason is hiding" Spencer said.

Emily sighed and nodded before she started gathering her things. While I remained where I was.

"Ethan, aren't you coming?" Spencer asked.

"No, I'm not" I said.

"What? Why not?" Spencer asked.

"Because I'm not going to sneak into Jason's house just to find out what he's hiding in his shed. You and the girls might think he's a bad person and Ali's killer, but I don't. I know Jason and I know he would never do something like that. And I'm not going to invade his property" I explained.

Spencer and Emily looked at me in shock while I rolled my eyes.

I got up and grabbed my laptop that was on the kitchen counter.

"You guys have fun sneaking around and getting caught. I'm going to be in my room watching videos since I already did my homework yesterday. Have fun and be safe" I sighed.

I turned around and walked upstairs to head to my room.

I honestly hate that my sister and the girls are accusing Jason of being a murderer when he isn't.

And when they realize that he isn't a murderer, I'll be staring straight at them saying 'I told you so'.
