Chapter Thirty-Three: Touched By An 'A'-ngel

Ethan's Pov

I was currently at school, eating breakfast in the cafeteria with Aria as she drank her coffee.

She was acting weird today. She looked nervous and for some reason she kept on drinking her coffee whenever he cheeks turned red.

I was curious but didn't say anything because I felt like it was none of my business and I didn't want to pry.

While eating my cereal, Emily walked towards us and sat down across from us.

"Why is your phone turned off? I was trying to reach you all night" Emily asked.

"I'm sorry. I was avoiding someone's call" Aria sighed.

"I need to talk to you about Jason" Emily said.

This made me sigh in annoyance. This again.

"Well I need to talk to you about Jason. The both of you, actually" Aria said, gesturing to me and Emily.

Me and Emily looked at her with raised eyebrows, confused but also curious.

"He kissed me" Aria said.

My eyes widened and my jaw dropped. I looked at Emily and saw that she was in the same boat as me.

Jason kissed Aria!

Holy mother of hell!

"Aria!" Emily whisper yelled at her.

"I know, it was a mistake. Look, I was trying to figure out a way to tell you guys. I totally don't know how to tell Ezra. Do I even tell him?" Aria asked.

"I mean, you're dating Mr. Fitz and another boy kissed you, I think it's better for you to tell him before someone else does" I said.

Aria sighed while Emily shook her head as she looked at her.

"Aria, Jason had pictures of you. Creepy pictures" Emily said.

"What?" me and Aria asked, confused.

"Spencer and I found a darkroom in his woodshed. He developed photographs of you sleeping" Emily said.

"Sleeping?" I asked, a bit shocked but still confused.

"Sleeping or drugged" Emily said.

"Ok well, I'm officially terrified" Aria said, looking creeped out.

I jumped when Spencer walked towards us and sat down next to Emily.

Does my sister have freaking superpowers that lets her appear out of thin air?

"Good. 'Kay, it's about time" Spencer said.

I rolled my eyes at her and grabbed my water bottle since I was feeling a bit dehydrated.

"And for the record, I never bought Jason's whole act hanging around here, pretending to be concerned about at-risk youth, using your brother to get to you" Spencer scoffed.

"Spencer" I said in a warning tone.

"Hold on. He really did help Mike" Aria defended.

"So he could get into your house" Spencer angrily said.

"And kiss you" Emily added.

"Wait, what?" Spencer asked, shocked.

Emily's eyes widened when she realized what she said while Aria glared at her.

I wanted to laugh but I couldn't, I really don't think now is the time to be laughing.

"You're kissing him now?" Spencer asked, shocked.

"Spencer, stop it. She didn't kiss him, he kissed her, there's a difference" I sternly said.

Aria nodded but the look on Spencer's face still remained where it was, making me even more annoyed.

"Thanks, Em, I really needed that, on top of everything else" Aria sarcastically said.

"Aria, he's dangerous" Spencer said.

"For the love of god, can you stop accusing Jason of being dangerous. He's not dangerous and he's not a creep. I'm sure he has a reasonable explanation for those photos" I defended.

"Ethan, why are you defending him?" Emily asked, shocked.

"Yeah, Ethan, he's dangerous. He could've killed Alison" Spencer said.

"Yeah, well guess what, that's what you all thought about Toby. You all thought he was dangerous and that he killed Alison, but guess what, he didn't. He was only trying to get his life back on track after taking the blame for you guys. And he only wanted to explain what he was doing with Alison the night she disappeared. But did he kill her? No, he didn't. And now you're all thinking the same about Jason because he didn't have the best relationship with Alison and because you two decided to sneak into his shed when it's his privacy, not yours" I angrily snapped.

The three of them flinched at my tone, looking at me with wide eyes in shock.

I closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths before reopening them and standing up.

"When you realize that he's not Ali's killer, come find me, because I really can't deal with this right now" I sternly said.

I ignored them as I grabbed my tray and walked away.

A Few Minutes Later

School was basically the same like any other day, really really boring.

I was doing my best to avoid Spencer and Emily. I really just needed some space away from them. I needed time to just cool down.

While walking around the hallways, I spotted Jason nearby talking to a student.

I smiled when I saw him and decided I would talk to him about the photos.

I know that he has to have a reasonable explanation for those photos and I'm gonna get an answer from him to prove to my sister and the other girls that he's not Ali's killer.

Sighing, I made my way towards him. He noticed me and said goodbye to the student before walking towards me.

"Hey, Ethan, how's it going?" Jason asked.

"Ah, you know, same old same old. Hey, can I talk to you about something? It's important" I asked.

"Sure, what's up?" Jason asked.

"Forgive me if I sound rude, but why do you have pictures of Aria in that shed of yours?" I asked.

Jason's eyes widened slightly as he seemed taken aback by the question. Can't really blame him.

"Excuse me?" Jason asked, looking at me in confusion.

"Look, Spencer and Emily said that they found pictures of Aria in that shed of yours and they think that you took them. And I just need you to tell me the real reason behind those photos" I explained.

"Hold up. Your sister and your friend are the ones who broke into my darkroom?" Jason asked, looking shocked and angry.

"Yeah, they were" I sighed.

Jason scoffed in annoyance and shook his head as he walked a couple steps next to me.

"Man, I swear, this town never changes. People would rather sneak behind your back than ask you a direct question" Jason said, clearly annoyed.

"Well, that's just how this town is. But Jason, I know you, and I know that you must have a good explanation for those photos. Please tell me. I promise I'll believe you" I softly said.

He looked at me for a few seconds before sighing and nodding his head.

"I didn't take the photos of Aria. Ali did" Jason said.

"Why would Ali take pictures of Aria sleeping?" I asked, confused.

"Got me. I don't know what goes on at slumber parties" Jason shrugged.

This made me snort a little, remembering all those times Alison told Jason she wasn't invited to our slumber parties.

Not because he was a boy and her brother, but because she thought he was annoying and didn't want him ruining the fun.

"Look, I found a roll of her film in the house, so I developed it" Jason said.

"Ok, but why were they missing when my sister and Emily went back?" I asked.

"That equipment is expensive, so I moved it into the house until I could get a new lock" Jason said.

I hummed at that as Jason continued explaining.

"And the prints were gone because I was having them framed. As a gift. For Aria and a few for you" Jason said.

"Ali took pictures of me too?" I asked.

"Lots, she had more pictures of you than Aria" Jason chuckled.

I chuckled at that and shook my head at him.

I sighed before smiling as Jason and patting him on the shoulder.

"Thank you, for telling me the truth. I knew that there was a reasonable explanations for why you had those photos" I smiled.

"I did. And thank you for believing me and not accusing me like your sister and your friends" Jason said.

"Hey, you're one of my best friends, of course I'll believe you" I smiled.

Jason laughed and nodded at that.

"I gotta get to class, but I'll see you later" I said.

"Of course, I'll text you" Jason nodded.

I smiled and nodded at that before walking away to head to my next class.

At The Apple Rose Grille

After school ended I went to the Apple Rose Grille to meet up with Jason after he texted me saying that he wanted to see me.

When he arrived he showed me the frames of the pictures of me and Aria.

And can I just say that they were freaking beautiful as hell.

"These are beautiful" I smiled, completely in awe.

"Yeah. I didn't know Ali was so artistic" Jason chuckled.

"I barely remember her even taking pictures. It's, strange. Still getting to know someone after they're gone" I sighed.

I set the frame down, gently because I didn't want to ruin it, and began playing with my fingers.

Jason noticed and chuckled lightly, causing me to look at him.

"Nervous?" Jason asked, slight amusement showing in his eyes.

"Oh. It's a bad habit" I sighed, rolling my eyes.

Jason laughed and I joined in on the laughter before sighing and shaking my head.

It was silent for a few minutes before I decided to break it.

"Look, I know this isn't an excuse, but, my sister and my friends broke in because they've been through a lot. We all have" I softly said.

"I think we're all looking for answers. That's how I found this roll of film in the first place" Jason sighed.

"Where did you find it?" I asked, my curiosity taking over.

"I was doing renovations in Ali's room. I pulled up her floorboard and found a box of her stuff" Jason explained.

"What else was in the box?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Nothing special. Girl stuff" Jason shrugged.

"Well, then why would she hide it?" I asked, confused.

I mean, I know Ali hid alot of things, but there was always a reason for it.

So why would she hide that box of hers?

"I don't know. Hiding things became such second nature for her, I don't think she even knew why she was doing it half the time" Jason sighed.

I pressed my lips into a thin line and nodded at that. It was true, I won't lie.

"Something becomes a habit, it's hard to stop, you know?" Jason asked.

"Yeah, I do" I nodded.

Jason sent me a small smile and nodded as he looked at the frames again.

"So, um, have you found anything else of hers?" I asked.

"No. Just the box. You can take a look at it, if you want. It's back at the house" Jason said.

I smiled at that and nodded.

"Or you can just wait for the next break-in from your circle of friends and relatives" Jason sarcastically said.

I let out a laugh at that and Jason followed, the both of us laughing freely.

He then picked up one of the frames and showed it to me. I looked at it and smiled softly at it, admiring all of the pictures.

I seriously don't understand why my sister or my friends think he's dangerous. Jason is a really nice and cool guy. He's nowhere near dangerous.

I was so caught up in talking to Jason, as well as looking at the frames, that I didn't even notice two familiar figures staring at us from outside the grille.

At The Dilaurentis House

After the grille me and Jason went to his house so he could give me Alison's box.

When we got there Jason turned around to look at me and I stopped walking.

"Uh...actually, the box is in the woodshed. Follow me" Jason said.

I nodded as we both continued walking to head to the woodshed so he could give me the box.

Maybe whatever is inside that box can be useful. I might be able to find something in the box that maybe Alison didn't want anyone seeing.

We finally made it to the woodshed as Jason walked inside while I remained outside.

I waited for him to come back out with the box when I heard my phone ring. I took it out and saw it was a message from Emily.

I just got a massage from A! Come over please!

My eyes widened in shock and my jaw dropped.

I quickly put my phone back when I saw Jason coming out of the woodshed with the box in his hand.

"Here you go" Jason said as he handed me the box.

"Thanks. Well, I have to get going, I've got lots of homework to finish. But I'll see you later, right?" I asked.

"Of course, don't hesitate to call or text" Jason nodded.

"Thanks, see you later, buddy" I smiled as I patted his shoulder.

I turned around and walked as fast as I could to get to Hanna's house and see Emily and see how's she doing after what happened.

At Hanna's House

I made a quick stop to my house to leave the box in my room before making my way to Hanna's house to see Emily.

When I got there I found her in Hanna's room, she had taken five showers to try and get rid of A's hands being on her when he or she gave her that massage.

Me and Hanna were in Hanna's room, we were sitting on the bed Emily was using to sleep on while she was staying with them. Spencer was downstairs making Emily some tea to help her feel better.

Aria texted us saying that she'd be here soon, she had to talk to Ezra about something.

We heard the door open and we turned around to see Spencer walking into the room, the cup of tea in her hands.

"Here. Small sips" Spencer said.

Emily nodded and took the cup from her.

Spencer sighed and sat down on Hanna's bed.

"You know what the worst part is? If I had just looked up during that massage, we'd know who A is" Emily sighed.

"What did the hands feel like, a guy or a girl?" Hanna asked.

"I-I thought like a girl, but...now I don't know" Emily sighed.

I placed my hand on her shoulder and rubbed it, doing my best to comfort her.

"Do you need to take another shower?" I asked.

"No, I think five is enough" Emily said, shaking her head.

"I could use one. I've felt gross ever since I discovered Ian's video's might have had more than one cameraman" Spencer groaned.

"That's so creepy" Hanna sighed.

"What's even creepier is that one of those guys has a gun, and a badge" I said and Spencer nodded.

"And a relationship to Jenna, who hates us, and hated Ali even more" Emily said.

"So, which one is A?" Hanna asked, clearly frustrated.

"That 's the thing. Ever since we realized A made Ian's death look like a suicide, we've been thinking that A and the killer are the same person. What if A is a group of people, all playing together for the same team?" Spencer asked.

"Or the same club" I suggested.

Spencer sighed and nodded as she ran her hand through her hair.

We heard the doorbell ring from downstairs and I already knew it was Aria.

"That's probably Aria, and my guess is she has something that she wants to say to me" Spencer smiled, a sarcastic smile.

I fondly rolled my eyes at her as she made her way towards the door.

She placed her hand on the knob before looking at the three of us.

"If I'm not back in five minutes, send a rescue team" Spencer begged.

This made me snort in amusement while Hanna and Emily chuckled lightly, shaking their heads at her.

Spencer opened the door before leaving the room to talk to Aria.

When she was gone we heard a phone vibrating and we turned around to see that it was coming from Emily's phone.

Emily set her tea down and grabbed her phone to see who was calling or texting her. She stared at her phone for a few seconds before declining the call or text and setting her phone down.

Me and Hanna looked at her with raised eyebrows as she shook her head at us.

"It's nothing" Emily said.

I wasn't convinced, but after what she went through today I don't want to pry so I kept my mouth shut.

Emily laid her head on my shoulder and I wrapped a protective arm around her shoulders.

I swear when we find out who A is I really am going to kill them.
