Chapter Fourty-Eight: UnmAsked

Ethan's Pov

The girls and I were currently in the kitchen watching the news.

Garrett's arrest has spread all through Rosewood and everyone is now convinced that he's Alison's real killer.

He deserves what he's getting. If he really is Ali's killer I can't wait for him to rot in jail.

"One week after his arrest, Reynolds pled not guilty to the charge of Alison DiLaurentis' murder. However, prosecutors remain confident with their case. Rosewood PD's working theory is that Reynolds became a police officer to destroy evidence that linked him to the murder scene. Investigators received a break in the case when that document was recovered"

This made me and the girls look at each other, already knowing what document they were talking about.

"That must be page 5 of Ali's autopsy report" Hanna said.

"Garrett took it, but somebody gave it back" Emily said.

"Our mom is friends with the prosecutor. That somebody was Jenna" I said.

Looks like Jenna had enough of Garrett and wasn't about to go down with him.

Never thought I would say this but, thank you Jenna.

"Can we finally put Ali to rest now?" Aria asked.

Spencer grabbed the remote to mute the T.V so we could discuss everything.

"Or is two down and two to go? Ian's dead, Garrett's in jail. Melissa and Jenna were in Ali's room that night too. They may not have killed Ali, but they're definitely guilty of something" Hanna explained.

I really don't want to believe that, but everyone has secrets.

I mean, I have my secret that I don't want the girls to know about, at least not yet.

What secrets could Melissa be hiding?

We heard footsteps and turned around to see Melissa entering the kitchen.

"Love gone wrong" Melissa sighed.

"What are you talking about?" Spencer asked as she turned the T.V off.

"I knew Ian didn't kill Alison, and you five can keep a secret, but you don't have the constitution for murder" Melissa said.

I gulped slightly as Melissa's eyes wandered over to Aria's frozen yogurt.

"Are you gonna eat that?" Melissa asked.

Aria didn't say anything and just pushed her frozen yogurt to her.

"Thanks" Melissa said.

Aria just nodded and scooted closer to my side, her eyes never leaving Melissa.

"I know how Jenna Marshall went blind, and so did Garrett. If he killed Alison, it's because he thought she deserved it" Melissa shrugged.

I know that she hates Alison but why would she say that?

It doesn't matter if Alison was a bitch, she didn't deserve to get murdered, no matter what she's done.

Melissa took a bite of the yogurt and hummed in delight.

"Mmm. Is this peanut butter?" Melissa asked.

"Toffee" Aria said.

"Mm. It is good. Thanks" Melissa smiled.

She walked towards me and gave me a kiss on the forehead before making her way towards the door.

When she left the house the girls immediately looked at me and Spencer.

"She definitely knows about the Jenna thing" Hanna said.

We heard a phone ring and we turned around to see Emily grabbing hers from the kitchen counter.

"You still have something that belongs to me. Bring it, or one of you leaves in a body bag. A" Emily said.

This made us look at each other nervously, especially since A is now talking about freaking body bags.

We heard the doorbell ring and Spencer walked away to answer it.

"A has to be talking about her phone" Hanna said.

"You still have it locked in your closet, right?" Emily asked.

"Yes" Hanna nodded.

"I don't know about you guys, but A talking about body bags makes me very nervous" Aria said.

We heard footsteps and saw Spencer walking back in, a yellow envelope in her hand.

"Guys, it was a messenger. Something for each of us" Spencer said.

She handed us each our own envelopes and we took it from her and opened them.

I took out whatever was in the envelope before opening it. It was an invitation for the masquerade ball.

"A wants to play hide and seek" Emily said.

"Be there when the clock strikes midnight" Aria said, a small note in her hand.

No doubt it's from A.

At the mention of hide and seek me and Spencer looked at each other before getting up and walked into the living room.

We stood next to each other and just stared forward, nothing but a serious look in our eyes.

"Spence? Ethan?" Aria asked.

Me and Spencer glanced at each other before speaking.

"Hide-and-seek was our favorite game with Melissa. You wanna know why?" Spencer asked.

When nobody answered I turned around to look at them.

"We always won" I plainly said.

I turned back around and when mine and Spencer's eyes made contact, we smirked, determination shown in our eyes.

The Next Day

Spencer and I walked towards the girl as we saw them stop at the front of the school building.

When we got there we heard Hanna talking about, none other, than our sister Melissa.

"The only person I know that's smarter than Spencer and Ethan is their sister" Hanna said.

Spencer and I both shot her offended looks.

"Um, we take offense" Spencer said, speaking for both of us.

Hanna chuckled awkwardly and shot us small smiles, making me roll my eyes.

"Melissa did score higher on the Wechsler Scale, but when you take into account our scores and the Flynn Effect, combined with real-life accomplishments, the gap in our IQs is virtually nonexistent" Spencer explained.

I chuckled at the confused looks on the girls faces before Emily cleared her throat.

"Um, what are you guys doing with Ali's bag?" Emily asked.

"I'm giving A back her phone over my dead body, which means that we have until midnight tomorrow to unmask this bitch once and for all, and this bag has brought us closer to the truth than we've ever gotten" I explained.

"You think there's something in there we missed?" Emily asked.

"We need to go through it again, all of us, with a fresh pair of eyes. But with Melissa at home, I-" Spencer started but Hanna cut her off.

"No, forget my place. My mom is still hot on the A trail" Hanna said.

"Look, let's just meet after school. I have an idea for a great costume" Aria said.

I smiled at her before Mona walked towards us.

"Oh, you're going to the masquerade mash? Me too. Can you believe blind Jenna's going?" Mona asked.

"Mona, don't call her that" I sternly said.

"A week ago, that would have made me a no-show, but since she dumped Noel con man for seeing-eye Toby, sorry, Spencer" Mona said.

Spencer shot her an annoyed look and I gently hit her arm.

"Je m'excuse pour mon mirror face" Mona said in french as she applied her lipstick.

I chuckled lightly at her and shook my head.

"I love this vintage shop a few towns over. We should all go after school and get our costumes together" Mona grinned.

"I would love to, but, um, I have to take my sister to an ultrasound" Spencer said.

"My mom's coming back tomorrow, so I have some house stuff" Emily said.

"Yeah, and vintage is my middle name, but-" Aria started, only to be cut off by the bell. "I gotta get to class" she added.

She walked inside the building with Spencer and Emily following behind her.

"That just leaves us" Mona smiled, looking at me and Hanna.

"Um, look, I am so sorry, Mona, but I have to study with Caleb after school" Hanna said.

She made her way inside the school building, leaving me and Mona alone.

I sighed at them and shook my head before turning around to look at Mona.

"Well, I don't know about them, but I'm down to head to that vintage store" I smiled.

"Really?" Mona asked, hope in her eyes.

"Yeah, Mona, I would never ditch you. Not like them. So I say we go as soon as school is over, deal?" I asked.

"Deal" Mona nodded.

I grinned and wrapped my arm around her shoulders before guiding her into the building.

At Ezra's Apartment

After my trip with Mona to to the vintage store to get our costumes for the ball I met up with the girls at Mr. Fitz's apartment.

Aria suggested we go there since he wouldn't be there for the time being and it was the perfect place for us to talk about A and do more research.

The girls were currently going through some of Mr. Fitz's things, admiring the stuff that he had.

While Aria was in the kitchen preparing us some coffee.

"Tristan and Isolde? Abelard and Eloise?" Spencer asked, looking through his bookshelf.

"This is too cute" Emily smiled, looking through his photo album.

I sat down on the couch while Hanna sat down on his bed.

"Fitz is a sucker for a tragic love story" Spencer said.

I sent her a deadpan look while Aria shot her a look, one of slight annoyance but also sadness.

Spencer's eyes widened when she realized what she said and turned towards Aria.

"I so didn't mean that how it sounded. Have you heard from him?" Spencer asked.

"Yeah, he checks in. Everything he thought he wanted, he's lost because of me. Guys, I-I think that it might be over this time. Really over" Aria sighed.

"Aria, it's probably for the best" I softly said.

Aria sighed and hesitantly nodded her head before going back to pouring some coffee in the mugs.

We heard a phone ring and turned around to see Hanna looking at her phone, annoyance and guilt washing through her eyes.

"Great. Now Mona knows I lied about where I am. And Caleb is with her, so he's gonna ask me why I ditched her" Hanna said.

I shot her a sympathetic look as she set her phone down.

"You know, I am lying to everyone I care about. I don't even know why I started lying to begin with" Hanna said, annoyed.

"You're lying because you don't want the people that you care about to end up like Dr. Sullivan, here one day and gone the next" Spencer said.

Hanna sighed before plopping down on the bed.

"Hanna, do you mind? It's, kind of sacred ground" Aria said, a smile making its way onto her face.

"It is!" the girls asked in unison, smiles on their faces.

Aria just smiled as she brought over the tray of coffee.

"Man. You sure can keep a secret" Spencer smirked, impressed.

Aria set the tray down and patted the sides of her hips before sitting down on the couch.

My eyes widened in disbelief and my jaw dropped. I shook my head and tried to stop myself from gagging.

I'm honestly not sure how to feel about what Aria just revealed. It's kind of gross, considering my best friend that's still a teenager and a minor slept with our previous English teacher.

But I'd rather not say anything.

"Hey, Ethan, can you grab my laptop?" Spencer asked.

"What is it, Spence?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at her.

"Could you look up Dougherty's Landing?" Spencer asked.

I nodded and pulled out Spencer's laptop as the girls walked over to sit on the couch.

I began typing in what Spencer wanted me to before hitting enter to see what would show up.

"It's a tiny airstrip off of Highway 30" I said.

"Is it close to anything?" Spencer asked.

"No, it's in the middle of nowhere" I said.

Spencer frowned and grabbed the laptop to take a look herself. A few seconds passed and she furrowed her eyebrows together, confused.

"Wait, what did that postcard say?" Spencer asked.

"Um, meets 30" Emily said.

Aria stood up and walked towards the other side of the room to grab the postcard from the bag.

When she got it she walked back over to us, sitting back down.

"The Lost Woods Resort. Find us where Greenview meets 30" Hanna said, reading what Spencer found.

"Duncan said that he flew Ali to an airfield the day she disappeared. This has to be where she went" Aria said.

She then flipped the postcard and looked at us.

"Maybe room one" Aria said.

We all looked at each other and nodded, agreeing to head to that place.

Late At Night

I was currently driving us to the Lost Woods Resorts and can I just say that that place was pretty fall, considering I've been driving for a few hours and it was already dark.

"Are you sure this is right?" Emily asked.

"This is Greenview" I said.

I continued driving, making sure to keep my eyes on the road, when the girls and I let out loud gasps when something ran past us.

I let out a huge breath, clearly startled by what just happened, but I kept on driving despite my anxiety.

"What was that?" Hanna asked.

"I-I don't know. A deer, I think" Spencer nervously said.

"Maybe we should go back" Aria said.

"No! Ok, we didn't come this far to give up" Emily sternly said.

"Careful, bubs" Hanna whispered.

"Relax, I'm not gonna let anything happen to us, promise" I sternly said.

I kept on driving before I finally found myself at the Lost Woods Resort, and thank god I managed to find a parking space, especially when there were barely any cars.

"What is that?" Aria asked, confused.

"What would Ali be doing up here?" Emily asked, confused like Aria.

"She wasn't bagging a deer, that's for sure" Hanna sarcastically said.

All of a sudden we heard a knock on the window, causing us to gasp and turn around, only to see a man standing there.

"Are you checking in?" the man asked.

Well, we are now.

When the man began walking away we all got out of the car and followed him inside the hotel.

"I was surprised when you kids pulled up. People don't come here much anymore since they built the interstate. It doesn't bother me, though. I like the quiet" the man said.

I offered him a small smile and nodded.

"Sign here" the man said, pushing the checking book towards me.

I nodded and took the pen from him and began signing in. I made a debate in my head before going with it.

I handed him the pen back and pushed the book back to him.

"Welcome to the Lost Woods Resort, Jonah Smith" the man smiled at me.

I can't really write my real name, I need to be careful, just in case A comes here and signs in and sees the names.

"Um, is Room one available?" I asked.

"How'd you know about Room one?" the man asked, confused.

"Sorry?" I asked.

"It's got the hottest water on the property. Perfect for a night like this" the man smiled.

"Oh, o-our friend, the one who told us about this place, she stayed in Room one. Maybe you remember her, Vivian Darkbloom?" I asked.

The man walked back over to me and handed me the key for the room.

"Name doesn't ring a bell. Besides, I learned a long time ago not to tell tales about folks who stay here. You check into the Lost Woods because you don't want to be found" the man explained.

I smiled at him and nodded before walking away with the other girls to head to our hotel room.

Strong wind blew in our direction and thunder continued to rumble.

As we were walking Hanna stumbled before falling to the ground.

"Ugh! Damn it!" Hanna yelled in frustration.

"Are you ok?" Emily asked, concerned.

I tossed the key to Spencer as Emily and I crouched down and grabbed Hanna's arm to help her off the ground.

"Hanna, come on" Aria said.

We managed to get her up and began walking to our hotel room.

When we got there Spencer opened the door and we all walked inside. I found a light switch and turned it on so that way we could see.

It looked like a regular room, pretty cozy, though a bit dirty.

"I'm not exactly sure what we're looking for" Emily said.

"Ali left Ian to come up here for a reason" Spencer said as we all walked inside.

"What was it?" I asked.

I closed the door behind me as the girls and I took off our jackets before we began looking around, trying to see if we could find anything that could help.

"Love how they call this place a resort" I sarcastically said, rolling my eyes.

"Do you think that Ali came here to hide something?" Emily asked.

"Or do you think that she came here to hide, from A?" Aria asked, worried.

"We need to get into the office. Was Ali here alone, or did she come with somebody?" Spencer asked.

Her and Aria walked to the window to take a peek at the office.

"Is he still there?" Aria asked.

"I think that he left. I'm just dying to get a look at that registration book" Spencer said.

Aria glanced at Spencer before turning around and walked to bed to grab her jacket. Spencer turned around and looked at her, surprised.

"Wait, really? You're gonna come with me?" Spencer asked.

Aria shot a look towards Emily and Hanna, who were both sitting next to each other, shivering.

"Does it look like those two are moving?" Aria asked.

"I'm cold" Emily defended.

"Ok, no, I'm colder than she is" Hanna defended.

"And I'm pretty lazy" I shrugged.

Spencer rolled her eyes before walking towards Aria, scanning her up and down.

"You're little, but you're big" Spencer said.

When she walked away I chuckled at the smile on Aria's face before she followed Spencer out.

When they were gone I sat down on the bed and took out my phone. Hanna had gotten up from where she was and grabbed a towel before heading into the bathroom to take a shower.

"I can't believe you're taking a shower in this place" Emily said when she heard the water running.

"God, Emily, I'm covered in mud!" Hanna yelled.

I sighed before hearing a phone ring. Emily got up and walked to the bed and took her phone out of her bag.

When she saw who was calling her her eyes widened in shock. She quickly answered the call before putting the phone to her ear.

"Hello? Maya? Can you hear me?" Emily asked.

She opened the door and left the room, most likely to get a better signal, don't really blame her given the place we're at.

I sighed and got up from the bed and closed the door, not wanting the wind to get in, I'm cold enough as it is.

"Hanna is the hot water working?" I asked.

"Yeah, gotta admit it's really good too!" Hanna yelled.

"Well don't take too long, I'm going next!" I yelled.

"Ok!" Hanna yelled back.

I sighed before making my way to the mirror. I frowned when I saw some leaves in my hair before taking them out.

I heard the door open and realized it was Emily.

"That was fast, were you able to talk to Maya?" I asked.

I didn't get a response, causing me to frown.

"Em, are you ok?" I asked.

I turned around only for my eyes to widen when I saw that A was standing behind me.

I made an attempt to scream when A struck me across the face, causing me to fall to the ground with a loud thud.

"Ethan! Bubs, are you ok?" Hanna asked.

Hearing Hanna's voice must've made A freak out because they quickly sprinted out of the room, leaving me on the ground.

I groaned in pain and felt a little lightheaded. Whoever that bitch is they really have a strong punch.

I brought my hand up to my face and winced in pain. I tried getting up but that just resulted in me going back down to the ground.

"Ethan!" Hanna yelled.

I looked up to see Hanna walking towards me, luckily she had pants on but her upperhalf was covered by the towel.

When she was close she crouched down and gently took a hold of my arm.

"Bubs, are you ok? What happened?" Hanna asked, worried.

She gently helped me off the ground by pulling me up. I groaned in pain and tried to get rid of the dizziness I felt.

I looked around the room before looking back at Hanna.

"Buttercup, A was in here" I said.

"What?" Hanna gasped, her eyes wide in fear.

"I heard the door open and I thought it was Emily but when I turned around I saw that it was A. I tried to scream when they struck me across the face, they ran after they heard you call out to me" I explained.

Her eyes widened even more and we both looked at the door, only to see that it was open.

The Next Day

To say that Hanna and I had trouble sleeping would be an understatement.

We didn't tell the girls what happened because we didn't want them to worry. So when they asked about what happened to my face I just said that I hit my head on the wall.

When morning came Spencer was going through the registration book she found, Aria and I were making some coffee, Emily was sitting on the bed looking at her phone while Hanna was outside talking to Caleb.

"Ali stayed here twice, and the first time was the day she was supposed to be meeting A in Brookhaven" Spencer said.

"Coincidence? I doubt it" I sighed.

Aria patted my back as she handed Spencer a cup of coffee.

I sighed before making my way to the bed as I sat down next to Emily.

"She still didn't call back?" I asked and Emily shook her head.

"My mom's not even home yet, and I'm lying to her. She thinks I'm staying at your house" Emily said, looking at Aria.

"Oh, that works, 'cause my mom thinks that I stayed at yours" Aria smiled.

Emily and I chuckled before I took a sip of my coffee.

"We're not stealing that, are we?" Emily asked.

"No. We'll go put it back" Spencer sighed as she sat up from the chair.

"We? Spencer, you are not gonna make me crawl through that window again, are you?" Aria asked.

"I'll do it, I just need you to stand guard" Spencer said, grabbing the book.

I chuckled at the annoyed sigh Aria let out.

"Come on, we're team Sparia" Spencer begged.

Aria sighed before smiling and nodding. They grabbed their jackets before leaving to put the book back.

Hanna walked back in, closing the door behind her, before walking towards us.

"Buttercup, what's wrong?" I asked, worried.

"Caleb can't take me to the masquerade party any more. His mom's flying in tonight. My costume needed a date" Hanna sighed.

"What's your costume?" Emily asked.

"I wanted to be Juliet, since Bridget Woo beat me out for the part in the 6th grade" Hanna said.

"Looking back, I think I wanted to be Romeo" Emily smiled.

"So, will you go to the party with me?" Hanna asked, looking up at her with hope in her eyes.

"I'll be your date. But I'm not dressing like a dude" Emily said.

"Even if you did I think you'd look hot" I smirked, winking at her.

Emily chuckled and smacked me upside the head, causing me to groan while Hanna laughed.

The door opened and Aria and Spencer ran in, looking worried.

"Harold's back!" I yelled.

"Let's go before he realizes we touched his stuff!" Spencer yelled.

We quickly grabbed our things, making sure we left nothing behind, before running out of the room to head to the car.

At The Masquerade Ball

We all went home to get ourselves ready for the ball. At around 9pm we met up with each other. I was standing in between Aria and Hanna as we entered the room.

And can I just say that we look good in our costumes.

"This is the perfect place for A to hide" Aria said.

"Where was Melissa when you left?" Hanna asked, looking at me and Spencer.

"In her pajamas, curled up on the couch" Spencer said.

"We have three hours to find out who A is before A finds us" Emily said, worried.

"We all still agree, right? No matter what happens at midnight, we stick together, and we are not giving up that phone" Aria said.

"It's five against one. I like those odds" I smirked.

"Should we split up and look around?" Spencer asked.

"None of us have dates, so" Emily said.

"Let's meet back here in an hour, and keep your phones close" Aria said.

We all nodded before splitting up to look around. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do, but might as well find something to eat and drink before dancing.

A Few Hours Later

Hours passed and we were still at the ball. As fun as I had I was getting a bit bored and tired.

I met up with Aria, Emily and Hanna and we were all together at the stairs looking around the room.

Emily told us that Spencer and Mona left to go back to the Lost Woods Resort because they think they found something that could help them figure out who A is.

So while they were doing that we were still looking to see if A was here, at least until we get a call from either Spencer or Mona.

"There she is" Hanna said.

We turned around to see a girl wearing a black swan costume walking around.

"Who is that?" Emily asked.

"I can't tell from here" I said.

"Tall, size two. I hate her already" Hanna scoffed, rolling her eyes.

We watched the black swan walk towards Jenna as a guy walked up to them. He took off his mask and my eyes widened when I saw that it was Lucas.

"It's Lucas. They're all together" Hanna gasped.

We then saw the black swan turn around and walk away, most likely to leave the party.

"Come on" Aria said.

We all began running, trying to catch up with the black swan and unmask them. It has to be A, it just has to be.

We continued running and saw them running towards the exit door.

"She's leaving!" Emily yelled.

"Hurry!" me and Aria yelled.

We picked up the pace and tried to grab her, but she managed to leave before we could. We tried opening the door but it was locked, great.

"It's locked. Crap" I hissed.

We turned around to see Hanna holding something in her hand, we walked towards her and saw that she was holding a feather.

It must've fallen off the costume when the black swan was running. We shook our heads before walking back to the party.

"I'm calling Spencer" Hanna said.

She took her phone out and tried calling her but nothing.

"This phone is a piece of crap" Hanna groaned.

"I'll call her" Aria said before taking her phone out.

"That's weird" Hanna said.

"What?" I asked, confused.

She handed me her phone and when I looked at it my eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Your phone is set to record every time it's turned on" I said.

Hanna's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, she didn't know that and obviously we didn't either.

I handed her her phone back and tried to think of something that would explain why Hanna's phone is set to record everytime it's turned on.

Just before I could say anything I heard Spencer's voice from Aria's phone, guess she picked up.

We huddled closer to Aria to see what was going on.

"You almost killed Ethan. He's my brother, my best friend. I thought he was your best friend too" Spencer said.

"It's easier to forgive an enemy than it is to forgive a friend" Mona said.

We all let out collective gasps as our eyes widened and our jaws dropped.

Mona was wearing a black hoodie.

Oh my god...

Mona's A!

One of my best friends is A!

"How did you do it? How could you be everywhere? You were always one step ahead of us" Spencer asked, her tone filled with fear.

"You're not the only genius in this car" Mona said.

She turned around to glare at my sister, her eyes showing nothing but anger.

"You bitches underestimated me" Mona angrily spat.

I swallowed thickly, still unsure of how to process this.

"You're never gonna make it to Lookout Point if you don't slow down" Spencer said.

"They're going to lookout point. I know a shortcut. Come on" Aria said.

Her and Emily began running while me and Hanna remained where we were.

Aria stopped when she realized neither of us was moving and walked towards us.

"Ethan, Hanna" Aria said.

"Mona's A" Hanna said, her voice filled with lots of emotions.

Aria frowned at us before sighing and grabbing both our arms.

"Come on" Aria said.

She began dragging us away so we could get to Spencer in time before Mona could do anything to her.

We got into the car, Hanna insisted on driving, before we took off. We had to get to Spencer before Mona did anything. I could never forgive myself if my sister got hurt, or worse.

We finally made it to lookout point in time, thanks to the shortcut, and when we got there we saw a car parked.

My eyes widened when I saw Spencer running out of the car as Mona tried following her, only to stop when she saw us driving towards her.

"Hanna, stop!" Aria yelled.

"Hanna, Hanna stop!" Emily yelled.

Hanna continued driving, her hands clutching onto the wheel as she glared at Mona, her teeth gritted.

"Buttercup! Buttercup, come on! Stop! Stop!" I yelled.

Finally she stepped on the brakes and stopped, the car just inches away from Mona.

When Mona locked eyes on me and Hanna her eyes widened and I saw anger, frustration and.....guilt in her eyes.

She let out a loud scream before storming towards Spencer. The girls and I quickly undid our seat belts before getting out of the car, just in time to see Mona shove Spencer towards a tree.

"SPENCER!" I shouted.

I ran towards them and grabbed Mona and pushed her away from Spencer.

Spencer moved away in time, but my eyes widened when Mona grabbed onto the tree when she was close to the edge.

"Mona!" I yelled.

I grabbed her arm and tried pulling her up, despite knowing that she's the one that's been torturing us since Alison's funeral.

Spencer tried helping me, only for our grips to loosen on her as she screamed and fell.

"Mona! Oh, my God!" Spencer yelled.

I averted my eyes from the scene and pulled my sister in a tight hug, just in time as the girls ran towards us.

Aria wrapped her arms around Spencer while Hanna and Emily gasped as they looked down.

"Are you ok? Did she hurt you?" I asked, worried.

"No, no, no I'm fine" Spencer reassured me.

I sighed and hugged my sister like my life depended on it, placing a kiss to her forehead.

A Few Minutes Later

We called 911 and the ambulance along with the cops arrived.

The paramedics were checking up on Spencer, making sure that she was alright, while the cops went to retrieve Mona's body.

"Dr. Sullivan?" Aria suddenly spoke up.

We turned around and our eyes widened when we saw Dr. Sullivan running towards us, a worried look on her face.

"Are you all okay?" Dr. Sullivan asked.

"We tried to find you" Emily said.

"What did she do to you? Where have you been?" Spencer asked.

"She threatened my son. I didn't think I had a choice. I needed to leave. I'm so very sorry" Dr. Sullivan said, guilt shown in her eyes.

I shook my head and bit my lip, trying to contain the tears that were threatening to spill from my eyes.

Dr. Sullivan looked at me and Hanna and placed her hands on our shoulders.

"Hanna, Ethan, it's alright. You're both safe now" Dr. Sullivan softly said.

"I can't believe this. She was my friend" Hanna whimpered.

I couldn't hold back my tears anymore and let them stream down my cheeks.

I felt arms wrap around me and looked to see Dr. Sullivan hugging both me and Hanna as she hugged us both. I laid my head on her shoulder and sobbed into it.

I can't believe that Mona was A.

I can't believe that Mona, my own best friend, was the one that's been torturing us since Alison's funeral.

She was the one that ran me over with a car, she was the one that attacked both me and Emily in the greenhouse and she was the one that punched me at the Lost Woods Resort.

The girl that I defended since the beginning against Alison's bullying, the girl I stood up for, was our enemy.

I didn't do anything else other then cry and sob, feeling so many emotions take over me.

"It's over, Ethan. It's over" Spencer softly said, rubbing my arm.

"She's alive!" a police officer yelled.

We all looked up and our eyes widened when he said that.

Are you serious right now?

At The Police Station

Since Mona was declared alive the cops took her to the station and put her in one of the rooms.

She's been in a room, a blanket draped around her, staring at us with no emotions shown in her eyes.

"She was living in a perpetual state of hyper reality. The adrenaline rush that accompanied her feelings of empowerment and her high level of intelligence fueled Mona's ability to be seemingly all-knowing and omnipresent" Dr. Sullivan explained.

We all watched Mona through the glass window and I had to admit that seeing her like this made me uneasy.

"Will she always be like this?" I asked.

"With therapy and the right medications, people with these personality disorders can get better" Dr. Sullivan said.

I sighed and nodded as the others left the room.

I looked at Mona one last time before turning around and leaving.

We all left the police station and walked down the stairs, it was a long day and we just wanted to go home and sleep.

"I never thought I'd find the strength to come back here, but your friend showed up, and he was very convincing. I help people push through their fears, but he helped me push through mine" Dr. Sullivan explained.

"Wait, our friend?" I asked, confused.

Dr. Sullivan smiled and nodded her head, causing us to turn around and to our surprise, we saw Toby standing by his truck.

Spencer walked towards him and he met her halfway.

"Pretending not to love you was the hardest thing I've ever done" Toby softly said.

Spencer's eyes widened and her lips trembled. She lifted her hand to try and hit his arm, only for Toby to grab it and pull her in a kiss.

I smiled as Spencer easily melted into the kiss, cupping the sides of his face as they kissed with so much love and desperation.

Finally, they were back.

The girls and I smiled, happy for the two lovebirds.

When they pulled away from the kiss I made my way towards Toby.

When I was close I hit Toby's arm, hard. Toby groaned in pain before chuckling when I pulled him in a tight hug.

"I missed you" I whispered.

"I missed you too, buddy" Toby whispered.

Finally, it was all over.

A Few Minutes Later

We separated from Toby and began walking together to head to Emily's house. Me and Hanna were standing together, our arms linked together.

"You gonna be okay at home tonight?" Aria asked, looking at Hanna.

"I know Mona's A. I just keep seeing that faceless person in the black hoodie. Let's sleep at my place" Mona said.

"Let's sleep at my place. My mom will be thrilled to have a reason to cook" Emily suggested.

"That sounds like old times" I chuckled.

All of a sudden we heard an ambulance car drive past us, causing us to look at each other before picking our pace.

Our eyes widened when we saw police cars outside Emily's house and a crowd gathered around as well.

Emily ran as fast as she could, scared that something happened to her mom since she did come back today. The girls and I followed behind her, pushing past a few people to get to her.

I sighed in relief when Mrs. Fields walked out, she looked unharmed, but the look on her face was nothing good.

"Honey, they found a body" Mrs. Fields said.

Emily looked at her confused and worried, but what Mrs. Fields said next shocked the five of them to the core.

"They think i-it's Maya" Mrs. Fields nervously and sadly said.

Our eyes widened in shock as Emily's eyes widened in disbelief and she let out a gasping sob. On instinct I walked towards her and wrapped my arms around her.

We turned around to see some paramedics coming out, a body bag on the table they were wheeling away.

Emily began sobbing and crying and I held onto her like my life depended on it. The girls hugged her too, trying to comfort her, but nothing worked as she kept on crying and yelling out a few things that I couldn't quite understand.

Seeing Emily in the state she was in broke all our hearts and we found ourselves crying with her.

We might've found out who A was tonight, but Emily lost her girlfriend, the girl she loved with all her heart.

Nothing will ever be the same.
