I was sitting in my room doing my makeup. I applied some lipgloss and a little mascara and decided to call it a day. I'm not big on wearing makeup and neither is my sister but she definitely put on a little bit more than me. She had a nude lipstick with a tint of pink on with mascara and a smokey colored eyeshadow. I felt like I looked like a troll whenever I was around her. I slipped on my fancy silver flats before doing a double take on my appearance in front of the mirror.
"Stop it Brielle, you look beautiful." Lydia scolded. I looked up at her through the mirror.
"How do you always seem to know what I'm thinking?" I asked her groaning.
"Please, you make it too obvious." She laughed turning me around so I was facing her.
"Hey can I ask you something?" She told me bringing me to sit down with her on my bed. I looked up at her confused as to why she was all of a sudden being serious.
"I'm nervous, what if we find our mates tonight? Mom and Dad invited our allies too." She frowned.
"I'm a little nervous about that too but let's not let that stop us from enjoying our birthday." I smiled at her reassuringly.
"Ugh, lets go find James." We walked out of my room and down the hallway to James'.
Lydia didn't even knock she just opened the door, I swear this girl has no shame.
He was standing in front of his mirror struggling to properly tie his tie.
"Hey big bro." Laughed Lydia. "Need a hand?" He glared at her but allowed her to help him tie it. Once his tie was done he began checking himself out in the mirror causing me to start laughing. He glared at me too before plopping down on his bed beside me.
"You guys ready to maybe never see each other again?" He asked us.
"It isn't funny James! What if we are all in different packs, I mean Dad said we are meant to look forward to this day but..but why?" This definitely seemed to be bothering Lydia the most out of all of us.
"Lydia I promise you I will beat up my mate if he doesn't let me see you, and you are a witch maybe slip him a quick death potion or something into his coffee, problem solved." I joked.
"Wow Octavia, what a wonderful idea." She spoke with such a serious face I couldn't help but break out into uncontrollable laughter.
"Yeah and if that doesn't work I can declare war on your pack Lydia." Laughed James.
"You guys are making me feel so much better." She spoke sarcastically.
"Kids! Lets go!" Yelled Mom from downstairs, we gave each other one last group hug trying our best not to wrinkle each other's clothes. Lydia walked out first, Jake following behind her and I waited a few seconds in his room before following after them. I took a few deep breaths trying to calm my nerves. I really didn't have many friends in this pack. They all either tolerate me because I'm a higher rank or because I make sure they know I don't like them, and they are trying to avoid a confrontation.
"Oh my goddess, you all look so beautiful." Smiled Mom.
"Thanks Mom." Laughed James.
She rolled her eyes at his childish behavior.
"You look very handsome James." She Laughed motioning for him to bend down so she could squeeze his cheeks.
"In the car." She told us. She looked absolutely stunning in her light pink dress.
Lydia and James were already out the door and in the car but I decided to stay back. My mind was moving at a mile a minute and my
Breathing was picking up. I was so nervous, I don't get along with people that well, they typically don't like me. What if I find my mate? What if he decides he doesn't want me after finding out what I'm like? Different scenarios and thoughts were rushing through my head at a million miles an hour of what could happen.
"Octavia? What's the matter?" My Dad walked in and gave me a concerned look.
"Nothing. Lets just go." I told him.
"Stop. What's going on?" He asked blocking the door.
"Nothing."
"Octavia." He growled.
"I said nothing, lets go they are waiting for us." I told him. He gave me a look similar to the one my mom gave me yesterday.
He moved so that I could get through and he followed behind me to the car. He politely opened the car door for me as I quickly sat down stuffing my dress in with us.
Once the car began moving dad broke the news to us.
"So Alpha Lucas from the Ridges pack will be joining us along with his Beta and Gamma. Alpha Ryland will also be attending from Blood Ash pack. Just try to avoid them all of you, I don't need any problems." He spoke. "They are vital to our packs safety."
Blood Ash was a closed off pack, no one really knew anything about them. There are obviously rumors about them, that they are trained killers who could win wars with their eyes closed or that they are ruled by the ruthless and vicious Alpha Ryland. But I didn't think it would be fair to make assumptions about them merely off of rumors.
Lydia poked my arm dragging me out of my thoughts. I glanced at her to see her motioning for me to get out of the car. Well that was a quick ride. I stepped out of the car and everyone followed behind me. Mom and Dad walked in front of me and the three of us, James, Lydia and I followed behind them.
I took in a shaky breath as I heard Brent announcing us from inside. Lydia squeezes my hand reassuringly before the doors were opened. We walked past tables and tables filled with people before sitting at the main table where we sit along with Brent's family and Jakes family.
"Welcome everyone. We are gathered here tonight to celebrate the eighteenth birthday of our children." He spoke pulling my mom closer to him and smiling at her. "We wanted to say how proud we are of each of them and that we know they will do incredible things in the future." Everyone clapped and a few people cheered. "Enjoy the party everyone."
I looked around the room and spotted a few jealous eyes glaring at us.
Once the main courses were delivered to everyone we began eating. I went to pick up my fork when my hand began uncontrollably shaking. Oh no, not now. This can't be happening now.
James seemed to notice as he glanced over at me.
"Go to the bathroom. I'll get dad." He told me. I nodded and rushed up from my seat. I hurried out of the room getting a few confused looks from the people I passed. I pushed through the double doors and ran down the hallway until I finally found the bathroom. Luckily it was a single person one so I didn't have to worry about running into anyone. I looked in the mirror to see my eyes were shifting between their normal blue to completely black.
I couldn't help but let out a nervous cry as my arms were both shaking now.
"Octavia?" Called my dad from outside the door.
He shoved it open and saw my shaking form.
"Oh honey." He said and walked over to me. He pulled me down to the floor so I was sitting on his lap as my body violently shook. I felt my brain running through images of pain and suffering. The visions filling my mind of werewolves chained up, being burned to death. I shook and screamed as my dad was
gently running his hand up and down my arm.
"Shhh, shhhh it's going to be okay." He told me soothingly. I heard my moms voice as I felt a hand running though my hair as the visions passed through me. I slowly opened my eyes and saw my mom and dad looking at me with pain in their eyes.
After a few minutes I got myself together and told them to head back to the party, I just wanted to be alone for a few minutes, I splashed some water on my face hoping to wash away the vision that I just saw.
I blew out a shaky breath as I made my way to the door. I turned the silver door knob and walked out of the room only to crash into a wall. Wait why would there be a wall in front of a door.
I glanced up at who I just crashed into to see an extremely handsome man looking at me. He had grey eyes and dark brown hair. He looked like he was completely made out of muscle and he had to be like 6"5 at least. He was a giant. He also smelled wonderful, like chocolate and oranges. He stepped closer to me until he was practically pinning me against the bathroom door with his abs. His arm touched mine and that changed any thought in my mind that believed this man wasn't my mate. I was about to say something when he turned and walked away continuing his way back to the party. I felt a pain in my heart but knew this would happen.
He doesn't want me.
