Chapter 24

Bree's POV

When Dipper walked in, I was quite surprised. I mean, was he spying on us and our conversation? Oh who am I kidding? We deserved to be snooped on my Dipper since we read his journal. It had been a silent lunch and we went back up and I saw Dipper glance quickly under his bed.

He's worried we'll do it again... I frowned in disappointment and walked over to Mabel.

"Hey, again, I'm sorry Dip," It was Mabel, "we shouldn't have done that. It was none of our business." She apologized.

Dipper let out a long sigh. "It's ok...I guess." He glanced at me for only a moment.

"I'm really sorry too Dipper. You don't know how guilty I feel for doing that." I said.

Dipper shrugged. "It's fine." He took a deep breath. "I don't need to dwell on this, summer is close to being over anyways."

"How much time we got?!" Mabel said excitedly as she jumped onto her bed.

"A...week."

Mabel stopped jumping and looked up blankly. "What? A-a week?" Her voice was sorrowful.

"Yeah." Dipper sounded drained.

Mabel flopped down on her bed with the same blank expression. "A week..." She echoed again. "I can't believe it...we'll be leaving Gravity Falls..." She seemed to be looking into oblivion.

I looked back and forth between them. "What's wrong with leaving Gravity Falls?" I asked.

Dipper looked up at me sadly. "I don't know...this place is so unique and mysterious. It's my type of place...so many adventures and everything. It's just...sad to think about leaving."

Mabel hugged her knees. "Yeah...I'll definitely be coming back up here for the summer year after year. I might as well just move here." She sounded determined. "I'm gonna move here."

Dipper shook her head. "Mabel, you know that's practically impossible." He said tersely. "We would never be able to get mom and dad to move up here. That's ridiculous."

"I wasn't talking about moving with them." Mabel's voice was low tone.

"What do you mean?" Dipper asked confused.

"When I'm eighteen, I'm leaving to live here. I don't know, this place is special." Mabel said sternly.

I stood motionless. They were talking so much about the future, but...I would never age. No matter how human I became, I would always have the agelessness of a Dream Demon. While Dipper and Mabel grew up, I would stay this age. Maybe in over millions of years I would look like an old woman. But by then Dipper would be-

"Are you ok?" Mabel asked, interrupting my thoughts.

"Oh, um, I'm fine. I was just thinking, if you guys moved back here...Jace and-and Bill would still be here."

Dipper and Mabel stared at me.

"You've gotta stop worrying." Mabel said annoyed.

"Sorry." I said as I chuckled. "I do do that a lot, don't I?"

Mabel and Dipper nodded.

"Do you think your mom and dad will except me?" I asked curiously.

"They have to!" Mabel exclaimed happily, but she exchanged a doubtful glance with Dipper.

"Yeah, you'll love it in California and they'll love you." He was smiling, but something behind his eyes were hidden.

Something about this whole moving to California with a new family was more complex than it sounded. Like something bad would happen. Dipper was quiet, but his eyes said everything .
