Drosera Anglica

A fog had rolled in from the river, turning the nearby roads slick and icy. From the storefront, the city lights glistened on the street.

As did the pair of diamond earrings displayed behind the department store window.

Selina Kyle gave a furtive glance at Harleen, gesturing for her to proceed. Harleen grinned back, raising her bat and smashing the entire window with one swing. Selina quickly snatched the earrings in her gloved hand and took off running into a dark alley.

"Hey! Wait for me!" Harleen cried, chasing after the woman. She had just entered the long and narrow alley when she saw a figure drop down from the roof.

And on top of Selina.

It seized her in its grasp, fleeing upwards back onto the roof with the screaming woman.

"Shit!" Harleen darted out of the alley and back onto the street, nearly skidding across it. Once she regained her footing, Harleen ran as fast as she could, not bothering to glance over her shoulder.

It was a long way back to the car, and by the time she reached it, she was panting and sweating despite the cold. "Red's going to be furious when she finds out!" Harleen collapsed breathlessly into the driver's seat.

Starting the car and pressing hard on the gas pedal, Harleen drove off wildly towards the Isley Mansion.

"Silence, Ms. Kyle." Bruce pinned the woman to the ground.

"Mr. Wayne." She glared up at him. "I think there's been a misunderstanding. See, I work for Pamela which grants me certain protection-"

"Not anymore." His stoic expression only hardened. "In my eyes, you are a criminal. And I am sure you know how I regard criminals."

"Of course." Selina smiled, tilting her head back. "I'm sure I do taste amazing, but maybe you can make an exception this time? No one needs to know... I won't even tell Pammy." She looked at him coyly, only to be slammed against the building in response.

"You of all people should know that won't work here. Not on me."

"It was worth a shot," Selina groaned. "It could have been our little secret-"

"Enough," He sneered. "You do not need to worry about me killing you. What you do need to worry about is escaping."

Selina scoffed. "Escape from what exactly? From you?"

Bruce said nothing as he moved off her, revealing the handcuffs he had chained around her wrist and onto the rusty pipe behind her.

"Oh, how you insult my skills." Selina tugged at the cuffs.

"Then, you better put them to use before the police arrive," he answered. As if on cue, police sirens were heard just down the street.

Bruce knew that Richard could sense him approaching. They all knew when another of their kind was nearby. Even when they were as silent as possible.

Yet, as his soles crossed over the dead grass, not even the slightest crunch could be heard. Striding over in complete silence, Bruce came to a halt just a few feet away from the deep hole in the ground.

No words were exchanged between them. For the longest time, Bruce merely watched as Richard continued shoveling up dirt out of the hole and onto the grass.

"You left the Manor tonight," Bruce finally stated.

"Yes, I did." Richard put the shovel down and looked up.

"And where were you?" He asked, remaining as still as the statues scattered around the Manor's gardens.

"I went to feed." Richard gestured to the corpse lying to the side.

Bruce narrowed his eyes. "Is that all?"

"Yes. I fed upon the man, I mean, criminal, we discussed at the location I said he would be at." Richard picked the shovel up again before climbing out of the hole.

"The abandoned cathedral?" The man's cold stare followed Richard as he moved towards the pile of dirt.

Richard nodded, beginning to cover the hole.

"Good work then," Bruce said, continuing to watch Richard with his steely gaze. Turning away, he started for the Manor, leaving him in the woods to finish his task.

Upon opening the door to the Manor, Bruce was immediately greeted by Alfred. "You are late, Master Bruce."

"I apologize, Alfred. But I got caught up in a robbery." With a wave of his pale hand, Bruce gestured for the butler to follow him. His polished shoes took soundless steps across the pristine floor while Alfred's heels clicked against the white tiles.

"A robbery, sir?" Alfred stopped in his tracks.

"Yes. With one of Ms. Isley's associates of all people. But it was just the opportunity I had hoped for." Bruce continued on up the staircase, leaving Alfred behind.

"I am afraid I do not quite understand, sir," Alfred called out as he hurried up the stairs, trying to catch up to Bruce's quick stride.

"You will see in tomorrow's newspaper, Alfred," Bruce reassured, opening the office door for the both of them. Once Alfred had entered and closed the door, Bruce's true feelings erupted.

"He is lying to me." Bruce slammed his fist down on the desk. "I know he went to see her."

"We have already tried to correct this behavior, sir. But Master Richard is adamant on seeing the girl-"

"I will not stand to be lied to by my own son!" He interrupted with a snarl.

"Then what will you do about it, Master Bruce?"

"I have been thinking about that, Alfred. Tonight, I was able to ensure Selina Kyle was arrested and thus, show how serious I make myself to be. I did this without violence. I did it with the law." Bruce examined the different objects he had collected over the years. Some were from cultures not extinct, from places no longer found on a map.

"I want you to make a phone call tomorrow morning Alfred." Bruce picked up one particular item, studying it closely.

"To whom, sir?"

"To the Gotham police." The man's lips curled into a smirk as he put the cross back down.

A/N: That awkward moment when you realize this story is a "darker and more violent" Hotel Transylvania...

A vampire dad not wanting his vampire kid to date a human... I mean, even the color schemes for the characters match.
