Chapter 7: Familiar Faces

A week has passed ever since the cafeteria incident. Jonas did what he promised Buzz and his gang; he took all the responsibility of the mess they created, and asked miss Angel to sanction just him and let the others go. At first, Angel disagreed, but due to Jonas' persistence she just agreed with it. Now, Jonas is doing obligatory community service for 2 months as his sanction. The others, well, let's just say their loyalty to big boss grew tenfold.

In Angel's office,
"How is Jonas doing?" Angel asked Hara, who's sitting on the couch in front of Angel's desk.
"Hm? It's been a week or so now, right? You're still worried with the boy?" Hara asked, browsing through her phone.
"I feel bad letting him do community service alone. His friends should have been with him, but he insisted so much to get himself sanctioned alone." Angel sighed. "He was full of sincerity when he asked, too. Ugh, being the SWDB president is hard, Hara."
A picture posted on Twitter caught Hara's attention and made her smile. Standing up, she approached Angel and showed her the photo, "I told you, don't worry too much," Hara reassured.
"Ah.. I see," Angel smiled in relief.

The picture showed Jonas cleaning the streets with Buzz and everyone else. Their bright smiles lifted Angel's heavy guilt and no longer made her worry. Yes, Angel is always strict when it comes to students, but she's really kind-hearted too, so it hurts her every time she imposes disciplinary actions to her students.

"I'm glad you feel better now," Hara said before sitting back on the couch. Realizing that it's already 3 p.m., she texted Ezekiel.

Going home? :3

Yeah, sir Vic just dismissed us.

"Awwww, man. I think I flunked that test. Why was it so hard?" Nathan cried as he face-palms himself in disappointment. Awhile ago was their first Math exam, and the stressed expression from the class' faces didn't look promising.
"I swear mate, sir Vic has hidden grudges with our class," Jack said. "It's Nathan's fault for being noisy all the time, I bet ya that," Matteo added.
"What?! I'm just more engaged with the lessons," Nathan defended himself. It didn't bother Ezekiel, though. He went through the same lessons for four years; if only it was possible to give him a degree, BS High School Major in First Year, but no such degree exists.

"I'll leave first," Ezekiel bid farewell to the boys before leaving the room. Ezekiel still have things to do, like write a weekly report to his parents. Of course he denied agreeing to such a pathetic order, but he didn't have a choice. It was either follow their orders or go straight to the military.

On his way back to his apartment, a girl in a Central High School (CHS) uniform suddenly jumped in front of him. "Hi, Ezekiel!" It was Georgia Tate, his classmate from 2 years ago. He was shocked seeing a familiar face, though he expected it was bound to happen sooner or later—New Manila High School and Central High School are basically neighbors.
"Ah, hey, Georgia," Ezekiel replied, avoiding Georgia's eyes. She realized this and leaned towards where Ezekiel was looking, "still can't look at me in the eyes?" She teased. They have always been good friends, even though Ezekiel kept avoiding Georgia's eyes. It's his way of not falling in love with Georgia.
Ezekiel sighed then looked at Georgia directly in the eyes, "it was just my reflex," he said, clarifying that he no longer has any feelings for her. Georgia smiled, "I know. Too bad, I guess."
"Hm?"
"You never really asked me out."
"What?" Ezekiel asked in confusion.
"Stupid Ezekiel! I loved you, okay?!" Georgia shouted as tears fall down her face. "And hearing something so cold from you after disappearing, how could you?!" She added, this time walking away without waiting for a response from Ezekiel.
"W-What just...," Ezekiel said to himself, watching Georgia get farther and farther. "W-Wait..."

Fuck, move your damn legs, Ezekiel! Chase her! Ezekiel thought. Move!!!! "Georgia!" Ezekiel shouted, running with all his might towards Georgia.

Georgia was about to be within his reach when a boy from CHS punched him out of nowhere. Ezekiel fell on the ground, not because the punch was strong but because he was running and the punch caused him to lose his balance. "What the hell?" Ezekiel groaned, massaging his left cheek. He looked at the boy who punched him—it was Dominic Ramirez, one of the reasons why he got kicked out of CHS.
Ezekiel grinned as he stood up, "2 years later and you still punch like a girl, Dom," Ezekiel taunted.
"Ha, I knew you'd say that. I was wondering why Georgia ran away crying," Dom obnoxiously said, trying to get into Ezekiel's nerves. "Besides, have you forgotten I wasn't your only enemy?" he smirked as 3 more boys appeared behind him.
"What's up, Eze," Romeo said.
"Long time no see, brother," Tony said.
"What a cheap shot, Dominic," Wesley said.
"4 against 1? Just like old times, right? Did you guys forget how you guys begged for my mercy back then?"
"Oh, please. That was 2 years ago. Do you really think you can still win against us?" Dominic bragged.
"Of course, I can," Ezekiel said without any hesitation. In reality, he knows he can no longer win a 4v1 against these people. He had an advantage back then for doing boxing, but it seems Dominic and his boys learned some fighting techniques over the years, possibly mixed martial arts.
"Ah, that's the Ezekiel we all know. Stupid and.. eh, just stupid," Tony said, cracking his knuckles.

Ezekiel was ready to run, but then Jonas and his gang appeared from behind, blocking his exit. S-Shit.., he thought, realizing that he's trapped.
"What the hell?" Jonas groaned. "We were gonna clean the street here, but it seems there's more trash than usual."
"Jonas..," Dominic said, clenching his fists.
"Sup, Dominic. You have a problem with my prey?" Jonas boasted. Ezekiel was about to answer back to Jonas, but he's not really in a good situation to instigate more trouble.
Dominic clicked his tongue, "let's go back. It's your lucky day, Eze," he said before leaving.

"Well?" Jonas placed his hand on Ezekiel's left shoulder, though it's a little high for him. He likes to do that to anyone to make himself feel superior, regardless of height. "Aren't you gonna leave?" He added.
"Why did you help me?" Ezekiel asked.
"Help you? Hah, I didn't help you. We're not done yet. You're simply my prey... but I guess this is my thanks to you, for making my gang and I closer than ever."
Ezekiel sighed in relief. He's safe for today. "Fine, I'll get going then so you guys can do your cleaning."
"Don't forget, after today, we're enemies again," Jonas emphasized.

Ezekiel smiled, "of course."
