Chapter 4 | The Beast is Coming
"Are we there yet?" Iris yawned as she finally woke up from her six hour nap, causing another wave of irritation to wash over Omoiyari while he continued to paddle through the sea water.
He did not answer, so Iris instead looked around at the vast ocean around them. She then sighed, "Oh, I see, never mind then..."
Omoiyari had been swimming through the ocean for two days, and he had ran all the way from Ula'ula Meadow to Malie City in three. The sun was high in the sky, so it was past noon. Despite his paddling, Omoiyari was not even slightly tired. Maybe it was fury toward the imperfect who took Izzy from him that kept him from tiring.
What he was tired of was Iris's constant talking. For the past five days, she fill the air with all the stories of her youth and life. She told about her parents, her twenty brothers and (mainly) sisters. She also talked about her fifty cousins, and the story of how she discovered she was allergic to red nectar. An imperfect would think that so many stories couldn't fit into one Oricorio, but because she was part Ghost Type, she was over forty years old. Long life was also a trait of a Ghost Type.
"When will we be there?" Iris suddenly began to whine, making the beast tense with frustration. "We have been on the sea for days!"
"We will get there when we get there!" Omoiyari snapped ferociously. "I am swimming as fast as I can under such stress!"
"Of course... Now tell me, why are you, a Pokemon or whatever species you are, raising a human? You act like it's the worst thing possible for your human to be around other humans. It's not like she hasn't seen a human before!"
The beast didn't reply. He knew that Iris would eventually speak of this, and there was no use pretending he hadn't heard her.
"She hasn't seen another human before," he finally told her.
"Never?" Iris said in disbelief. "I find that hard to believe. What about her parents?"
"Her mother left her with me ages ago. She hasn't come back, so I assume she has passed on."
"Were you close with the mother?"
Omoiyari growled, causing bubbles to erupt from the water. Iris chirped with laughter and squawked, "Well, I think you just gave yourself away! So, how do you know her?"
"She...she helped me when I was alone and friendless in this world..." Omoiyari answered grudgingly. "She protected me and my race, even at the cost of her own life. But, understandably, she would not risk the life of her only child. So when she was going to strike one last time, she came to me and gave me her daughter. She had no one left to turn to, and she promised if she lived and managed to go into hiding, she would come back for her daughter. She never did."
Iris was silent for a moment, making the beast think that their conversation had ended. He was wrong, however.
"How much does the girl know?"
"What?"
"Your human, how much does she know about her mother? Does she know all of this, or did you sugarcoat the truth? Parents often withhold the truth from their offspring if they think it will deny them happiness. For instance, parents with adopted children often withhold that they aren't their biological parents from their children so they can have a happier life and not feel unloved. I assume the girl knows you aren't her true father since you look absolutely nothing alike."
"She knows I am not her real father, but...she doesn't know anything about her mother... All I told her was that she was found near the wormhole and I was the one who chose to raise her. She doesn't know that I knew her mother, or that her mother is most likely dead..."
"Isn't that something you should have told her by now?"
"I don't need you to tell me how I raise Izzzie!" Omoiyari snapped, his frustration finally showing.
"Err, Omoi-"
"When I tell her about her mother, I will tell her when she's ready to hear it!"
"Beasty-"
"And no Oricorio will tell me when I should- YOW!"
Iris and used her beak to pull on his antennas. The jerk caused his antennas to charge with electricity from shock.
"If you'd just listen to me, you'd realize we're there!" Iris squawked as she released his antennas.
Sure enough, when Omoiyari focused his attention once again toward what use to be the line of endless sea, there was now a green and brown blur on the horizon.
Akala Island was dead ahead.
*~*~*
"Popplio, give them back!" Izzy scolded the blue seal-like Pokemon as it stole her crayons and began blowing them in bubbles.
The Popplio barked happily and slapped his paws together as the crayons floated up toward the ceiling of Professor Burnet's office. Frustrated, Izzy looked to the second Pokemon sitting quietly next to her.
"Rowlet, can you get my crayons, please?" Izzy asked the owl sweetly. "I can't reach them..."
The Rowlet hooted and fluttered off toward the ceiling. He popped all the bubbles that contained her crayons and let them drop to the floor. When Izzy picked them back up, she noticed that Popplio looked greatly disappointed.
"Popplio, you can have the red crayons," Izzy told him, shoving all the reddish colors toward the little seal-like Pokemon. "I'm done with those. I need the blues and greens!"
Popplio perked up and slapped his paws together as he barked happily. While the Water Type blew more bubbles, Rowlet calmly settled down next to Izzy again and watched her color her picture.
Izzy had stayed at the Dimensional Research Lab for five days. She had not left the building, but Professors Kukui and Burnet had made sure to keep her occupied while they continued to look for Omoiyari. They had given her paper, crayons, and coloring books. But what Izzy enjoyed the most was the introduction to Popplio and Rowlet,
Professor Kukui had taught her about Pokemon, the creatures that Omoiyari had told her about. He then introduced her to two of the Pokemon imperfects her age chose for their first Pokemon. Kukui said there was a third, a Fire Type called Litten, but he said someone else had already chosen it. Instead, she got to play with Popplio and Rowlet.
Besides playing with the two Pokemon, Professor Burnet would ask her many questions about Izzy's home and about Omoiyari. The woman seemed quite intrigued to learn about both, so whenever Izzy wasn't playing, Burnet would ask her questions while she took notes. Occasionally Izzy would tell her about something her friends told her about. It must have sound disbelieving, so Izzy would say a little defensively, "At least, that's what Scissor said..."
Burnet had been disgusted to find that their own race were called "imperfects".
"Why is that bad?" Izzy had asked her, noticing the scowl on the woman's face.
"That's awfully hypocritical of them," Burnet replied. "Yes, we humans are far from perfect, but they don't sound perfect either. For instance, they treated you like you were below them and treated you cruelly. That was harsh and mean, and that is a flaw."
Once Izzy finished coloring her picture, she grabbed it off the table and stood up before rushing out of the office. When noticing that their friend was leaving, Popplio and Rowlet both scampered after her.
She was not nearly as afraid of the imperfects anymore. Most of the humans were decent and patient toward her. The only human she didn't like was Nanu. She wouldn't speak to him, and he wouldn't speak to her often. He didn't seem too bothered by Izzy's behavior. On the contrary, he seemed to prefer not to talk to her for some odd reason.
Most humans were sitting at their desks, working on their computers. However, Izzy saw Professor Burnet with Professor Kukui, Nanu, and one of the assistants, Mr. Goodwind, and the front of the room and observing a glowing 3D map of Akala Island. Mr. Goodwind was in charge of the search for Omoiyari. He figured out a way of finding out the beast's location by looking for the same 'radiation' Izzy had absorbed from home. It was a very complex method, whatever it was.
"In the ocean?" Izzy heard Professor Burnet repeat as the girl got closer. "You mean it's swimming to Akala Island?"
"Yes, ma'am," Mr. Goodwind responded, gesturing to a glowing violet spot on the map. "It's off the coast of south Akala Island. However, it seems to be moving along the edge. It isn't going on shore at all."
"So you think it's heading here, eh?" said Nanu in his low gruff voice.
"Yes, sir."
"But that doesn't make sense, it would be faster for it to come to shore and travel on land."
"This is a very intelligent Ultra Beast," Professor Kukui pointed out. "It may be a faster route, but if it continues on it's course, it will be avoiding human contact. It will also reach Heahea City in just a few hours judging by its speed. When it gets here, it will be dark and the city will be less populated. Its trying to enter the island as quietly as possible."
Izzy reached out and pulled gently on Professor Burnet's arm. When the woman looked down at her, the little girl held out her drawing and told her cheerfully, "I drew Omoiyari for you! I thought a picture would help you find him!"
Burnet smiled as she took the drawing and replied encouragingly, "Thank you, Izzy, it's beautiful! Why don't you tell me about it?"
"It's Omoiyari!" Izzy repeated, pointing at the teal, blue, and black scribble monster in the center of the drawing before also pointing out while gesturing to the much smaller doodle, "And that's me! He's a lot bigger than me, I only go up to his elbow, see?"
"What's the yellow, here?" ask Kukui, pointing to Omoiyari's antennas while ignoring Nanu, who had just scoffed and turned away.
"He can make sparks come out of his antennas depending on how he feels!"
"Ah, so he's an Electric Type?" The man continued. "Like the Chinchous I've showed you?"
"Yep!"
Izzy then turned her gaze away from her drawing to observe the 3D map on the table. She could see the blinking light flashing southwest of the island.
"What's that?" Izzy asked curiously moving closer to the table.
"This is a map of Akala Island," Kukui explained to her. "Now see, we are all the way over here, in Heahea City."
He gesturing to a fairly steady red point on the map on the west side of the island.
"But here is the possible location of your Papa, which is near Konikoni City!" He added, showing her the blinking light near the south side of the island. "Tell me, Izzy, can Omoiyari swim?"
Izzy shrugged and answered, "I'm not sure, I didn't know he even came to this world before until a few days ago. He might know how to swim, 'cause he's super smart!"
"The Ultra Beast has been to Akala Island before?!" Mr. Goodwind suddenly snapped, taking Izzy by surprise. "We thought this was his first time here!"
"I-I don't know," the young girl stammered, noticing that everyone was looking at her. "I'm not sure if he came to this island, but I think he went to Ula'ula Island, 'cause he knew the difference between a red Oricorio and a purple one..."
"Oricorios are on all four islands, that doesn't tell us much!" The assistant hissed, but Burnet snapped harshly at him, "Mister Goodwind, there is no need for that tone!"
"But Professor-"
Another look from the woman silenced Mr. Goodwind. She looked down at Izzy and asked her calmly and gently, "Izzy, how long was Omoiyari in Alola on his last visit and how did he get back to Ultra Space?"
Izzy didn't say anything. She picked through her own memories for an answer. She finally answered in a shaky voice, "I-I don't know how he got back, but I know that in human time, he was here for at least a year..."
"That gave him enough time to go to every island," Nanu suddenly pointed out, turning around to look at the adults again. "He may know the terrain better than we thought. We should inform other islands of the beast, put them on their guard."
"The other islands shouldn't be our main concern though," Kukui reminded them forcefully. "So far Omoiyari hasn't done anything to threaten us. He got out of Ula'ula Island without anyone sighting him, and so far he is staying away from most settlements. We should inform other islands about the risk, but until he actually hurts someone, we will just act with caution. Besides, all the evidence shows that Akala Island is the target."
"You're right," Burnet agreed, turning to face Mr. Goodwind. "Mister Goodwind, I would like you to send out some of our people to try and meet the beast. Tell them to not hurt it, and not to do anything I wouldn't do!"
The assistant looked as if he wanted to argue, but he seemed to realize that it would get him nowhere. He then nodded and hurriedly left to gather people for the hunt. Once he left, the woman turned to Nanu and told him sternly, "Nanu, make sure everyone else knows not to hurt Omoiyari unless absolutely necessary. If the patrols don't catch up with him and he gets to the city, I have a feeling that he will come straight here."
"Very well." Nanu responded quietly before slowly walking away.
When Nanu was out of earshot, Izzy looked up at Burnet and Kukui and asked quietly, "Why is everyone scared of Omoiyari?"
She saw the woman turn to her husband, as if unsure of what to tell her. Kukui knelt down on the floor so he was eye to eye with the little girl.
"Little cousin, Pokemon and Ultra Beasts like your friend are very similar when it comes to aggression," The man told her slowly. "They can be friendly, or they can be mean. But there are two extremely dangerous types of Pokemon in the world: a wounded Pokemon, and a Pokemon protecting its children. I'd imagine that Omoiyari is the latter right now."
*~*~*
"It's safe to come out, boy."
Iris squawked frightfully as Omoiyari immediately exploded out of the water like a torpedo and landed on the stone dock of Heahea City. He heard the Oricorio splutter as he shook himself dry of the water clinging to him.
"For Pete's sake, now I'm all wet!" Iris hissed, shaking her now wet wings dry.
"Well I've been swimming in the ocean for two days, of course I'm going to be wet!" Omoiyari snapped, stepping over the bird and looking around the area.
He had spent most of the day avoiding boats and sailors. He knew that he could've gone through the tunnel that led straight into Heahea City, but he would draw too much attention. There was a higher chance of being spotted in the cave. It had been best to keep swimming. Now it was nighttime, and the city lights were up. There weren't many people near the docks, but the city would still have people around. At least this time he could hide in the shadows.
"Come along," Omoiyari hissed as he slunk past the Oricorio and into the shadows of the nearby building.
When right beside it, the Ultra Beast leapt like a Persian and landed onto the roof of the building without a sound. He was quite nimble compared to other beasts. He heard Iris fly behind him as he continued to swiftly move across buildings and leaping to the next. The streets of Heahea City weren't as populated as they would be during the day. Most of the humans were drunk on beer and other alcoholic drinks. Such things disgusted Omoiyari, for he had witnessed first hand what the drugs did to humans.
"How do you know which building she's in?" Iris asked a few minutes later as Omoiyari stopped on top of a building near a large hotel.
The beast didn't answer. He instead closed his eyes and used his antennas to sense Izzy's location. The waves were strong. She was very close now. She was in the second building north of them.
"This way," the beast told Iris, taking a few steps back before running and leaping across the street and onto the roof of the next building.
The building he sensed the radiation from was next to the building he was on. Judging from the lights coming from the windows, people were still inside and awake.
A burning hatred erupted inside the beast's heart. The beast licked his sharp teeth absentmindedly as he leapt on top of the building Izzy was in. It was time for his vengeance.
He heard Iris flap behind him before landing on the concrete roof. When she didn't say anything, Omoiyari approached a metal box on what looked like a little house, but was what the beast knew were stairs to the lower level. He pried the box open with his long fingers and found many wires and switches inside.
"Lights out, everyone," Omoiyari hissed as he tore the wires and switches with his sharp fingers, causing the power to go off.
*~*~*
Izzy jerked awake as the sounds of muffled yells coming from the next room. She immediately noticed that the office was much darker than when she went to sleep.
Feeling a great fear rise inside of her, Izzy wrapped the blanket around her and slid off the couch. She then skidded over to the office door, wrenched it open, and ran into the work area.
All of the lights had went out, and the computers and other technology had shut down. Izzy saw the outlines of workers from the moonlight leaking through the window. Everyone was using lighters or flashlights to see through the dark.
"Everyone stay calm," Burnet's voice called through the clamour. "We'll have someone check the electrical system! For now, please stay calm!"
"Little cousin, what are you doing here?"
Izzy yelped and swiveled around at the voice. Kukui was right behind her. She felt scared to see that Kukui looked both concerned and anxious.
"I-I woke up when the lights turned off," Izzy explained in a squeak. "W-why are the lights off?"
"I don't know, it's a very odd power outage," Kukui told her as he picked her up into his arms. "But it will get fixed as fast as an Extreme Speed!"
The young girl felt a little calmer after Kukui said this. She always liked his analogies between situations and Pokemon moves, even if she had no idea what the attack was.
Kukui carried her to the back of the room where Burnet's voice could be heard. Izzy could see the woman's outline through dark. She was giving instructions to some of the workers.
"Of all the times for the power to go off, it just had to be now!" Burnet said exasperatedly as the workers scurried off. "I don't understand it! We seem to be the only building without power!"
"A Pokemon might be using the power," Kukui suggested to his wife as he reached her side. "Some Electric Types drain power from buildings for energy."
"No Pokemon could drain the whole building!" The woman said dismissively. "A small Electric Type might cause the lights to flicker, but it wouldn't drain it dry!"
"A Pokemon didn't do this, Burnet."
Izzy shivered as she saw the silhouette of Nanu in the dark. Next to him was Mr. Goodwind, who was carrying a laptop under his right arm and a flashlight in his left hand. Nanu looked more dead-like in the dark.
"Do you know what happened to the power?" Kukui asked Nanu with some urgency in his voice.
"It was the beast," Nanu answered neutrally. "It appeared in Heahea City right before the power went out. It somehow figured out which building we were in and sabotaged the power. It now has the advantage."
"Professors, we should really get backup!" Mr. Goodwind told Professor Burnet and Kukui urgently. "We aren't equipped to fight off an Ultra Beast! Our Pokemon-"
"Our Pokemon will have to do!" Burnet interrupted forcefully. "This Ultra Beast came for Izzy! We must stay calm and show it that we mean it no harm!"
"Is Omoiyari here?" Izzy piped up, excitement and hope suddenly spreading through her body. "Can I see him?!"
"When we find your friend, you can be the first to meet him," Kukui assured her. "He seems to be hiding right now."
"Professors, I don't think it will take much to find him," Nanu told them, and for the first time a small grin appeared on his face. "You see...he's right outside the window."
Screams and yells suddenly erupted around the room, causing Izzy to gasp with fright. A huge, scaly, long fingered hand was pressed against the window. A loud roar burst from outside as the hand pounded against the glass. The window shattered and workers scattered away from the window. People were throwing pokeballs and releasing the creatures inside. Nanu also threw a pokeball into the air and released the great gray feline. Mr. Goodwind also released a Pokemon, a large black rat with pudgy cheeks and big front teeth.
"Nobody move!" Burnet bellowed at the workers as a huge creature crawled into the building through the hole it made.
The creature looked around the room at the terrified faces before roaring again. A blazing red aura emanated from the creature as it roared. But Izzy's heart leapt with joy as she recognized the shaggy black scales, the flashing antennas, and the glowing yellow eyes.
"OMOIYARI!" She cried with glee, struggling out of Kukui's arms and running to her papa.
The beast's eyes moved to look at Izzy before growling happily, "Izzzie! You're alright!"
The girl giggled as she clung to his arm and cried, "I missed you so much, Omoiyari!"
Omoiyari growled in a friendly manner and bent his head down to see at her level. Izzy giggled with laughter as his antennas moved across her face.
"Did they hurt you?" Omoiyari asked her with great concern. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine!" Izzy responded in the same hissing language as the beasts. "I'm ok, especially now that you're here!"
Her papa didn't seem to believe her though. He looked up and let his gaze move over the workers and their growling Pokemon. His lip curled to show his pointed teeth and hissed, "Put those away!"
This time, Omoiyari spoke in English. The people in the room all looked terrified at finding that he understood them. None of them moved, causing Omoiyari to hissed threateningly.
"I said put those away!" He roared again, causing everyone to flinch as his antennas lit up with electricity.
"Everyone return your Pokemon!" Burnet ordered the workers clearly.
The other people looked very reluctant to return their only hope of protection. However, they all did what they were told to do. Once the flashes of red and white light subsided, Omoiyari hissed more threateningly. His large yellow eyes were on Nanu, who did not return his fat gray feline.
"You!" Omoiyari growled with spite, moving Izzy closer to him. "You took Izzzie away from me!"
"I had no idea of your intentions toward the town," Nanu told Omoiyari quite calmly. "Nor did I know of your relationship with this kid. But right now, I can tell that your intentions are hostile. You'll find that I don't handle threats well!"
"Omoiyari, no!" Izzy yelled fearfully as the beast roared with anger and charged with electricity.
"No, nobody attack!" Burnet shouted as Nanu's Persian roared and prepared a Dark Pulse. "Nanu, stop this!"
But it was too late. The lightning and dark rings clashed and exploded. Desks were thrown across the room and people scattered. Izzy was horrified at what was happening. Omoiyari's rage seemed to be out of her control. Nothing she could say would help. But if she didn't do anything, Burnet and Kukui would get hurt.
They had done so much for her, she had to do something.
"Omoiyari, please!" Izzy cried, tugging on her papa's arm while tears ran down her face. "Don't hurt anyone! B-Burnet and Kukui helped me! They were looking for you for me! P-please don't do anything that could hurt them!"
A flash of violet smoke suddenly erupted from the center of the attacks. Once it cleared, Izzy saw the tiny violet bird from Ula'ula Island on standing between the attacking Pokemon. Her wings were spread out as she faced Omoiyari.
"Omoiyari, this has gone too far!" Iris shrieked at him. "You're not stupid! You are making the situation worse! It isn't all your fault, the humans are to be blamed as well, but think of Izzy! Think of your daughter!"
Izzy wasn't sure what Omoiyari was thinking. He was merely staring down the Oricorio, who was returning the glare. The Persian was also hissing and scratching the floor with its claws, taunting Omoiyari to attack.
But to Izzy's great relief, the electricity that had been charging through the beast's antennas died down slightly.
He was standing down.
A split second later, Omoiyari shrieked with pain and fell backwards. Izzy screamed as she saw blood sprout in the place that the stomach was on a human. Unlike humans, Omoiyari's blood was blue. It leaked onto the floor and drenched the beast's hands. A sharp stinger was lodged into its stomach.
"WHO DID THAT?!" Izzy heard Burnet roar at the room in a furious voice Izzy never imagined she had. "WHO ATTACKED?!"
"Omoiyari!" The Oricorio gasped as she fluttered over to the beast. "Oh Omoiyari, I'm so sorry! It will all be ok, you'll see!"
Omoiyari didn't seem to be listening. His pupils became slits as he looked down at his own blue blood. A second later, he let out a roar that shook the room. Izzy flinched but still ran to her guardian hugged his arm while saying desperately, "Please Omoiyari, please believe me, I didn't know this would happen! B-Burnet and Kukui didn't want you hurt, honest!"
But he didn't seem to hear her. He roared again and scrambled to his feet. He continued to make high pitched noises as he ran past terrified workers and ran not the hole in he window, but the door to Burnet's office. He broke the door off its hinges and scuttled into the room. Izzy could hear loud thuds and crashes that meant he was tipping over book cases and other furniture.
Izzy was numbed with shock. She couldn't feel anything except overpowering horror. She had been separated from her papa, waited for him to come for nearly a week, and when he finally comes to save her, he gets fatally hurt.
"I TOLD YOU NOT TO ATTACK HIM!" She heard Burnet shout with rage at what must have been one of the workers. "WHY DID YOU DISOBEY MY ORDER?!"
"I-I thought it was going to attack!" A man's voice stammered. "I couldn't just let it take advantage of our weakness! It was a tense situation!"
"WELL PUT THAT ARIDOS AWAY!"
"Izzy!"
Kukui had ran over to the little girl and knelt beside her. He then told her in a very concerned voice, "Izzy, I'm so sorry that happened, we didn't mean to hurt him!"
"H-His heart..." was all Izzy could manage to stutter as she hugged her stomach.
"What do you mean? What about his heart?"
The little girl looked at the professor and pointed to her stomach.
"H-His heart is right here... His tummy is where our hearts are, and his heart is where our tummies are..."
Kukui's face seemed to drain of the little color he had left. He stood up and called to his wife, "Babe, Omoiyari wasn't shot in the stomach, he was shot in the heart! Izzy says the organs are reversed in his species!"
The woman professor, who had still been shouting at the flustered employee and his Bug Pokemon, stopped yelling. If she was scared before, she was only just showing it. The whole room seemed to go quiet, quiet enough so that the growls and moans from the beast in Burnet's office could be heard.
"Someone must run to the Pokemon Center and get Nurse Joy!" Burnet shouted to the room at large. "Whoever goes is to tell her that whatever she sees here will be off record and be kept secret! Right now she's our only hope! Take the stairs, the elevators won't work from the power loss!"
Two workers immediately ran out of the work area in response with Burnet's order. Once they were gone, Burnet continued, "No one except trusted personal is to go into my office! Until everything is sorted out, just sit tight!"
Izzy looked around as she the violet Oricorio flutter away from her. Iris flew over and around workers and employees before flying into Burnet's office. For a Pokemon that barely knew the Ultra Beast, she seemed to really care for him.
"I-I want to see Omoiyari, please..." Izzy stammered to Kukui, wiping away the tears from her eyes. "H-He needs me...but I don't want to go alone..."
"Of course," Kukui agreed, holding her hand and guiding her to the office.
Burnet's office was a wreak. The furniture was tossed around and the glass coffee table was shattered. Both drips of blue blood and shards of glass were stock in the carpet. Her desk was tipped over the couch, both remarkably still intact. All the book cases were piled up like a wall in a corner while one laid on top. Strange and eerie chattering noises were coming from inside the fort. Iris the Oricorio was in front of the fort.
"Come now, Omoiyari," Iris was saying soothingly. "There is nothing to be scared of! They are getting help for you as we speak!"
"I don't want their help!" Omoiyari hissed in such a deadly and weak voice that Izzy flinched. "All I wanted was my daughter!"
Iris looked around at the two humans before looking back at the fort and saying quietly, "She's right here, Omoiyari."
Izzy let go of Kukui's hand and slowly edged over to the fort. When she was right next to Iris, she could see a big gap in the book shelves where a huge yellow eye was peering out.
"Omoiyari, please come out," Izzy whispered, kneeling in front of the pile of book cases. "It was an accident, they didn't mean to hurt you..."
"That imperfect knew what he was doing!" Omoiyari hissed snappishly in English. "He knew he was going to hurt me!"
"H-He didn't know he hit your heart..."
The yellow eye blinked. Izzy wasn't sure if she was reaching him or not.
"You're not alone, are you?" He finally growled.
"No, Kukui is here too."
"Send him away..."
"Omoiyari, he and Burnet aren't like the imperfects they talk about at home. They are the good ones, like me. They want to help you, like they wanted to help me find you. Papa, p-please give them a chance... I don't want you to die..."
She felt more tears slide down her face. She was frustrated that Omoiyari wouldn't accept help. Of all the beasts, she thought Omoiyari would be willing to give them a chance.
"I'll do it for you," Omoiyari hissed reluctantly. "I will talk to these...humans..."
"Now that's a start," Iris sighed with relief.
"Thank you, Omoiyari!" Izzy thanked him before getting up and gently moving back over to Kukui.
"How is he?" Kukui asked the little girl anxiously.
"He's willing to give us a second chance to make things right!" Izzy told him happily. "But I don't think he'll talk to anyone but you or Miss Burnet."
"Why only talk to us?"
"Because I told him that you were like me, that you were one of the imperfects he spoke highly of and that he wanted me to meet someday. You just need to get to know each other! Please can you try and be his friend?"
Kukui looked very uncomfortable about speaking to the best that threatened to hurt everyone. But he seemed to see how much this meant to her because he said just as reluctantly as Omoiyari, "I'll see what I can do."
*~*~*
"Do you feel better, Omoiyari?" Izzy asked her guardian nervously as the beast tried to stand up from the fort he made.
The Ultra Beast didn't answer, but moved the book case off from the top of the pile. He winced a little as he tried to sit up and his hand moved to the wound, which was now wrapped in bandages.
"Better than before," he admitted and than looked at the nurse that the workers had brought back. "Thank you very much."
"There is no need to thank me," Nurse Joy said modestly, waving her hand in an airy manner. "It's just part of my job!"
"So how long before he will fully recover?" Burnet asked Nurse Joy as she watched the beast with curiosity.
"It's hard to say, his anatomy is much different than most other Pokemon. I managed to get rid of the poison and his body should be able to heal. I don't know how long it will take for him to recover, but he will make a full recovery in time. However, I do suggest that you allow me to send this information to other Pokemon Centers. If he ever has to go to another one, then the other nurses will have some idea on what to do."
Izzy saw Kukui and Burnet exchange looks before the husband answered, "I guess that wouldn't be a bad idea. But please be careful on who you tell about him."
"Of course," the nurse agreed as she picked up her bag and continued, "Well I should get back to the Pokemon Center. If anything else goes wrong, don't hesitate to call."
As Nurse Joy left the office, she passed by Nanu who was just entering. Iris the Oricorio was perched on his shoulder. At the sight of Omoiyari, Iris flew off of Nanu's shoulder and landed next to the beast instead.
"I suppose everything checked out?" Nanu began, looking dully around at everyone.
"He's better than before," Burnet answered stiffly while watching Iris hum and sway since she was still mad over his disobeying orders. "Nanu, do you know that Oricorio?"
"You mean Iris? Of course I do. The two Ula'ula captains and myself all know her. She is the only Sensu Oricorio on Ula'ula Island. Very intelligent Pokemon. She's actually considered the Pokemon Kahuna of the island."
"How come I've never heard of her?" Kukui questioned him.
"She keeps to herself, really. She likes the isolation. She'll visit Acerola every now and then, but other than that, I at least haven't seen her lately."
Izzy looked over at the Oricorio. She was smirking a little at the praise, which seemed to greatly annoy Omoiyari. She noticed that he was very tense. He had talked with both Kukui and Burnet and had become more comfortable with them. Nanu, on the other hand, would take a lot of time. Until then, they seemed to accept that they would never see eye to eye.
"So, what are we going to do about the beast?" Nanu continued on, looking up at Omoiyari. "He can't stay here."
"Well we've thought about that," Burnet replied while glancing at her husband. "I will have Izzy and Omoiyari stay at my house in the city. We'd have to go tonight while it's still dark."
"You mean I don't have to stay here anymore?" Izzy said hopefully. When Burnet nodded, the little girl turned to Omoiyari happily and pleaded, "Oh, Omoiyari, can we go?! Pleeeeeease?!"
The beast tilted his head as he observed the little girl. Izzy did her best to pull what Kukui called "Baby-Doll Eyes" or puppy eyes. Apparently it was a way to get what you want.
It must had worked because the beast sighed helplessly and replied, "Does it look like I have a choice?"
(Small A/N: I posted the two delayed chapters and today's update. I was unable to post the first two last week due to Wattpad glitches, but I'll still apologize for the delay. The Thursday update for this week and the next Saturday update should be new chapters, so we're out of old territory now.)
