Chapter 1 | Chaos in Utopia
10 Years Later...
~*⭐️~☀️~⭐️*~
"ISABEEEL!"
Izzy held back a laugh at the sound of her furious father as she hid among the tall grass and low hanging branches of the forest trees. She knew she got him ticked to a point since he used her full name.
"Is that...Omoiyari?" came a small voice from Izzy's shoulder as her friend, Scissor the Kartana, landed on it. He did not have facial expressions, but if he did, he'd probably be extremely worried. He was always a bit anxious, especially of Omoiyari.
"Well, I'd be mad too if someone triggered a large dose of water to fall on my head when sleeping," Izzy said in defense of Omoiyari, using the Ultra Beasts' native tongue.
She watched Scissor for some sort of sign of amusement, holding back her own laughter. But then the Kartana fell into a fit of giggles, allowing Izzy to finally burst out laughing. Scissor was always a bit of a obedient creature, but he would usually join in on her little excursions. If he didn't laugh, well, then clearly Izzy went too far.
However their laughter both turned into screams of terror as the form of Izzy's father sprang up from the overly large plants. Dripping with water and fuming, Omoiyari towered over the imperfect and the small Kartana. If Izzy was honest, her father looked like he walked through the very bowls of 'the Distortion World'- the under world he told her about in stories.
"Izzzie, I know you're excited, but was this all really necessary?!" Omoiyari seethed, shaking water from his scales right onto Izzy and Scissor, who both squeaked with surprise. "The Kartanas aren't leaving without us, and neither is any other race since I'm the one who allows them to travel!"
"But this means we get there sooner!" Izzy chimed happily and clapping her hands together.
"If I didn't know better I would think you planned the whole gathering as an excuse to see your friends!"
"Its not like we see them often, s-sir," stammered Scissor nervously, edging closer to Izzy.
Omoiyari grumbled to himself more than anyone as he trudged through the undergrowth in the direction of the forest gateway- a place where the beast guardian could open the hole to other worlds. Feeling quite satisfied with her prank but feeling a hint of guilt, Izzy skipped after Omoiyari and said apologetically as she strode next to him, "I'm sorry I woke you up that way, I won't do it again. Are you going to stay mad at me?"
The great beast paused but shook his head and answered softly, "I can't stay mad at you. You're my little beast. Besides, I have other things to worry about."
Izzy smiled at this answer, and she heard Scissor let out his breath with relief. Most other beasts feared Omoiyari, for he had great powers compared to others. However, unlike Scissor, they did not share the same respect for Izzy, which may be the main reason why the beasts lived in constant fear of her father. She was an imperfect; a being that lived outside of the worlds of the beast's. She didn't belong on this world, but somehow Omoiyari found her at the gateway when she was a child and raised her; something that was previously unheard of.
Many stories of imperfects had been shared among the wormhole dwelling creature's. Imperfects were known for their belief of superiority over the beasts, causing great harm to beasts who accidentally fall into their domain. The beasts that fall into the imperfect world are never heard from again, so Izzy found it understandable why most beasts cast her and Omoiyari out of the loop, though it did irritate her father enormously.
"So, Scissor, have you been by the gateway yet?" Omoiyari adressed the small Kartana zooming swiftly around Izzy.
"Yeah, as a matter'o'fact, that's why I came looking for you," Scissor added. "The elder is waiting there already with his delegation!"
Omoiyari's eyes widened more than ever at this and Izzy suddenly heard him hiss in the imperfect tongue, or English, "Oh crap!"
The imperfect gave a small scream as Omoiyari suddenly used his tail to flip Izzy onto his back. She grabbed his black hair-like scales for dear life as the beast's walk turned to a gallop. She could hear Scissor zooming behind them, spluttering and wheezing all the while.
"Omoiyari, what's wrong?" Izzy called fearfully as she quickly ducked as she nearly missed a few low hanging tree branches. At the same time, Scissor soared next to the larger beast and shouted over the breeze, "W-Was it something I said sir?!"
"Your elder and his delegation are waiting for me, and I'm the only one who can open the gateway!" Omoiyari snapped furiously. "I guess I should be thanking you for getting me up when you did, Izzy!"
Izzy would've said "I told you so" but she didn't want to push it. Omoiyari was already stressed enough without her gloating. She knew that his reputation with the elders was important to their current status among the beasts, especially since Omoiyari had broken so many of their laws just by having Izzy live with him.
At Omoiyari's top speed, it didn't take long to reach the forest clearing, though Omoiyari skidded to a stop before he could hit any of the rocks spiked out of the ground. The clearing was surrounded by stone pillars standing in ruin while their symbols on the faces long since faded. In the center of the clearing as a group of slightly larger Kartanas, zooming around in a frenzy around the largest Kartana, the elder.
Izzy wasn't sure if they had noticed their presence until the large Kartana snapped in a ringing voice, "You're late!"
"My apologiess," Omoiyari replied in a slight hiss, bowing his head to the elder Kartana. "I...I was not aware of your presence here."
The Kartana delegation suddenly sped aside as the elder moved closer to the much larger beast. Izzy could sense that the Kartana was observing her, so she ducked down behind Omoiyari's large head so she could not be seen. Scissor also gave a squeak of surprise and darted behind her.
"You're taking the imperfect with you?" The elder Kartana growled skeptically to her father. "Are you sure that's wise? The Guzzlords will be attending, as you already know."
"With all due respect, I do not tell you who to add or not add to your delegation," Omoiyari answered in a cold tone. "I expect that you give me the same courtesy. After all, I'm the last of my kind, and since I'm the last one, that makes me the elder of myself. I make my own rules."
The Kartana appeared to get the message, because he said no more. He slowly levitated back to his delegation and said more loudly, "Very well, do as you wish."
Omoiyari nodded curtly to this and moved to the center of the clearing. Izzy took this as her cue to vacate her spot on his back and swiftly slid off and landed back on the grass. She felt the gazes of the Kartana delegation on the back of her neck as she and Scissor stood away from Omoiyari. However she did her best to ignore the sensation and watched as Omoiyari charged his antennas with electricity. His large yellow eyes began to glow brighter the more fierce the sparks became. A small crack began to flicker between two stones, steadily growing larger the more power offered.
A moment later, the large beast let out a monstrous roar, causing the pulsing crack to split open to grow to the size of the beast controlling it. The Kartana delegation swiftly zoomed into the wormhole and disappeared to the other side. Then Izzy took off toward the crack in space and leapt through with a shout of glee, Scissor close behind her.
A tingling sensation spread throughout her body as she landed on the other side. The forest of the Kartanas was no more. Instead the land ahead lacked any vegetation apart from dying grass, and the sky was filled with smoke and dust. The earth was full of craters, some small but most of them were three times larger than Omoiyari.
"The Celesteela domain?" Scissor asked with confusion as be pelted up into the air to see the world. "Why are we here? This isn't the world we usually have the Great Gathering on!"
"This was an emergency gathering that the Celesteelas' called for," Omoiyari explained as he stepped through the portal he created, which blinked out of existence right as the tip of his tail came out. "Whatever happened sounds urgent, so make sure you stay out of the elders' way. We don't want any trouble, and that specifically goes for you Izzzie!"
"Ok, ok!" Izzy said a little defensively as she stomped after her guardian as they began to walk up the path up hill while Scissor zoomed after them once more. "But I just want to see my friends! Can't I stay with them? I promise I won't make trouble!"
She saw Omoiyari hesitate before saying slowly, "I...I will allow you to be with them, but you must not draw any attention to yourself! Scissor, you'll watch her, won't you?"
"O-Of course, sir!" The Kartana squeaked with some surprise yet sounded petrified at the same time.
When they reached the top of the hill, they were greeted with a rather overwhelming sight. Below was the biggest crater thus far, humongous roots uprooted from the ground within and light grass springing from the dirt here and there. Surrounding the edge of the crater were almost all the beast delegations and elders causing an uproar; Kartanas, Xurkitrees, Pheromosas, Buzzwoles, Celesteelas, and the Guzzlords. The Nihilegos were absence once more. At the center of the crater was a startling sight of three huge wormholes, side by side.
"Omoiyari," Izzy began nervously while staring at the wormholes in awe. "Are...are those your wormholes?"
When there was no response, she pried her gaze from the cracks in space to look at her father. He too was gaping at the wormholes, and by the expression on his face, it was clear he knew no more about them than she did.
"Both of you get down by the Kartanas now." Omoiyari growled simply as he slid down the hill toward the crater.
Both Izzy and Scissor exchanged anxious looks before skidding down after him. Anything that made Omoiyari this tense was not good, so they followed his instructions and moved to stand near the Kartana delegation. The chattering subsided quickly as her father pounced into the crater depths and cautiously approached them. His antennas were moving wildly around as he scanned the displacements while circling one of the smaller cracks. He held up a long finger and brushed the portal with it.
The whole area trembled like an earthquake the second Omoiyari touched the wormhole. The beasts around them made terrified noises and began to scramble even farther away from the wormhole. The earthquake stopped as her father removed his finger from their presence.
"When did these begin appearing?" Omoiyari asked as he turned to look up at the Celesteela delegation, who all towered over the rest.
"They came two sun rises ago," the elder Celesteela answered in a mournful tone. "We thought they would go away over time, but they just... stayed put."
"You did not create these, you say?" The elder Kartana called to Omoiyari while the gathered beasts began to murmur.
"The wormholes I open don't last more than a few minutes as far as I know, and I'm sure I would know if I opened one."
"I don't believe you."
The largest of the beasts had spoken this. The giant elder Guzzlord was bearing down on Izzy's papa from his stand at the edge of the crater. The Guzzlords were smaller in population, but we're the most frightening of the beasts. Their hunger was unquenchable, as well as their rage. They hated imperfects more than any other species, which was why Omoiyari was so cautious about leaving Izzy alone during gatherings. They had caused a great uproar about her presents, and while they kept their distaste quiet, their hatred had never left.
Omoiyari straightened up and glued his bright yellow gaze onto the Guzzlord, not showing any sign of fear. It was unwise to show weakness around one.
"Do you really think I would do something like this?" Omoiyari asked coldly, his tailing thrashing from side to side. "What would I gain from forming three wormholes in the middle of Celesteela territory?"
"You are the only one to create and close wormholes between our worlds," the elder Guzzlord pointed out in his loud growling voice. "But of course, you are right; you have nothing to gain from doing so. But what about that imperfect you're so fond of? Can it open wormholes? Are you perhaps covering up for it?"
Izzy's mouth went dry as the eyes of most beasts landed on her, standing at the way back of the Kartana delegation with Scissor perched on her shoulder. The whispers and murmurs had started up again, and she could sense that they were more hostile than before. Fortunately, Omoiyari was quick to her rescue.
"You leave her out of this!" Omoiyari snapped furiously, his antennas charging with powerful electricity. "She is merely a child, and Imperfects can't open wormholes like I can!"
"How can we trust you?!" A Buzzwole roared from the bulky bug-like beast delegations. "You, who have befriended Imperfects apart from raised them and have actually lived in their world!"
"Omoiyari, you are the only beast to ever return from the Imperfect world," the Pheromosa elder added in a more soft yet serious voice. "Wormholes like these have sucked up entire races that have never been heard from again. You yourself were lost to the wormhole, yet you alone return. You have shown that you sympathize with Imperfects, and to top it off, you have raised an Imperfect as if it is one of us. You know more about these beings than anyone."
Just as more whispering ensued, Izzy heard Scissor whisper in her ear, "You never told me Omoiyari lived in the other world!"
Izzy bowed her head slight and said quietly, "I...I didn't know. He never told me."
"She knows nothing of the world beyond the wormhole!" Omoiyari spat more furiously, breaking the buzz of conversation. "The life of a beast is the only life she knows!"
But the Guzzlord stomped its large foot and snarled, "The blood of our fellow beasts is still drenched on its hands! Nothing will ever change that! What are you trying to do here, Omoiyari? Did you open the wormholes to wipe out another species, hand them cover to the Imperfects?"
Izzy knew at once that the elder Guzzlord hit a nerve. Omoiyari suddenly roared with rage and lunged at the elder, electricity flowing over his body. The monstrous beast also gave a roar and formed a dark purple orb in its mouth. The electricity caused the Shadow Ball to explode as it was released, and caused smog to flood over the area. Beasts were beginning to shriek with fear and scattered at the breakout.
"Izzy, what are you doing?!" Scissor squeaked shrilly as Izzy burst into a run toward the crater. "We can't go ther-"
"NO, OMOIYARI!" Izzy screamed as she slid down into the crater and grabbed onto her father's back leg. "Don't do this! I don't want you hurt! This won't solve anything!"
The electricity pulsing through her father's antennas suddenly dispersed. She could hear his ragged breathing as his head fell slightly. A moment later she felt his tail curl around her protectively while Omoiyari hiss loud enough for the Guzzlord to hear, "You stay away from my daughter!"
He then used his tail to lift Izzy onto his back before climbing out and away from the crater. The imperfect girl could feel the eyes of a several dozen beasts on the back of her neck but she tried to ignore them.
This wasn't how she planned to have the day go.
*~*~*
"Stay away from the older beasts for the rest of the time here," Omoiyari told Izzy sharply as he set her down in a small crater a couple large craters away from the other beasts and the wormholes. "Don't go wandering off on your own, make sure either Scissor or myself is with you."
"Omoiyari, I don't understand," Izzy started as she stood back up to face her father while Scissor flew off her shoulder and zoomed to her side. "What's going on? What's with the wormholes, why do they think I did it?"
"Pay Guzzlord no attention," he replied with a scowl on his face. "He's making stuff up. You are not responsible for the wormholes, he's trying to make the beasts scared. He's never liked your kind, and he's never liked me either. Don't listen to what he or any other beast has to say."
"But after everything that my species has done to them, they have a right to be scared!"
Omoiyari opened his mouth to speak but paused. He then turned to Scissor and said quietly, "Scissor, would you mind leaving for a few minutes?"
The Kartana turned it's head from Omoiyari to Izzy and back, before finally zooming off toward the crater where the gathering was held. Omoiyari sat down next to Izzy and wrapped his tail around her. He started speaking in English with a serious tone , "Isabel, you are not like the Imperfects that beasts fear. Imperfects have their many flaws. They are known to be selfish, lustful, greedy, and cruel. But there are still Imperfects who I know are selfless, respectful, generous, and compassionate.
"You, my daughter, are one of those Imperfects, and you deserve so much more respect than you're given. At least know that myself and your true friends love you for who you are. Your species means nothing to us; you're always going to be my little beast."
Izzy felt tears fill up in her eyes and tried to wipe them away as Omoiyari finished. She then asked in a cracked voice, "Do...do you someday I'll meet an imperfect like me? A nice one?"
She felt Omoiyari pat her on the head with his large hand as he replied quietly, "I hope so, I really do..."
~~~
HO I DID IT, I WASN'T SURE IF I COULD FINISH THIS TODAY.
Ok, to be blunt, Wattpad has sucked lately and I wasn't sure if I could post this. I'm still not, so if you see this, congratulations, the Lord has smiled upon you XD I had to republish the latest SWS3 chapter three times before the notification and chapter finally showed up, let's see how this goes.
Let's make this quick: this chapter was rewritten to adapt to the Pokémon Ultra Sun universe, and some things had to be changed. For instance, in the original version, Omoiyari's ability to open wormholes was not common knowledge and that information was what caused the whole uproar to begin with. I'm hoping I can just keep most of the second chapter yet add a few scenes, because there was one thing that I could not add to this chapter that has to be moved to the next instead.
Second, my books are now on a updating schedule. I gave the whole speech in SWS3, but I want to stay short. SWS3 and TDOBH are taking turns updating every Thursday, so this week I updated SWS3, and this upcoming Thursday will be an TDOBH update. ALSO, every Saturday there will be a update from TDOBH, so between every SWS3 update, there will be three updates of TDOBH. I'm warning you now, the Saturday updates may change to Sunday, so, yeah, watch for that.
Ok my keyboard is no longer functioning properly and my fingers hurt, so I'm gonna leave you all now. Thank you for your encouraging comments, and I'm so happy to see TDOBH readers come back! Hopefully we can catch up on chapters by the end of the month!
[Edit: THANK THE MAKER, IT FINALLY UPDATED, I THOUGHT WATTPAD WOULD NEVER POST THIS AND I WOULD NEVER MOVE ON (today was stressful and I just want to be done with this T^T)]
