Chapter 8: Old Companions
—Alias Investigations—
They gave up after they failed to catch Matt a few nights ago. Today was the last day for them to try to get him but they haven't talked to each other for two days. Hope was coming over in three hours to have her talk with her. All Jessica did was work some cases. She was almost finished on her fourth case when someone knocked her door.
"Alias Investigations is closed for today! Come back tomorrow!"
The person on the other side of the door continued to knock.
"If you're looking for Jessica Jones, you could go screw yourself!" Jessica shouted.
The person still didn't stop. Jessica was getting frustrated already.
"I'm coming! Asshole." Jessica muttered, walking towards the door.
She opened the door, it was Foggy who was waiting for her with a desperate face. She sighed, knowing it was serious, and sat down with him on the desk.
"I'm having a bad week, Nelson. Might as well not piss me off." Jessica said.
"I've heard about Matt. I want him back too. But I've noticed the Defenders doesn't want to act on it." Foggy explained.
"Go on." Jessica sighed.
"I've seen where he's going to be placed in. It's a prison but it's not a ordinary one. Check this out." Foggy placed a blueprint on the desk, "A prison built in space."
"I'm sorry. I would love to hear this if I was Reed Richards but this is bullshit for me."
"Wait! Wait!" Foggy stopped Jessica from folding the blueprint, "Let me explain. This prison was built by Tony Stark and Reed Richards. It was built for super-powered individuals. Yes, Matt is special but he is not built for this. They will kill him."
"Why would they kill him?"
"They are ruthless inside of their. No food, barely any water and the inmates will kill him. Don't you know how super-powered they are?"
"How long would you think he would last?"
"With the conditions and the inmates, two months top."
"And if he would be held up inside the prison, how long would he be in?"
"Murder is pretty big but if we convince them that Kilgrave forced him to, we're looking at seven years."
"Not helping." Jessica said and started to stand up, "Let's start finding him."
"But I thought you gave up on him?"
"A few more hours. Let's give it a try." Jessica rolled her eyes and picked her jacket off the wall. "Let's go."
—Railyard—
Matt unloaded drugs off one of the trains and into a briefcase. Matt had taken down a whole group of heavily armed guards a few minutes ago.
Kilgrave has ordered him to do it. He didn't know why. Maybe he was running low on money or he needed more to hide himself from the world. Nonetheless, he was tasked to do it.
While placing the last piece in the briefcase, he could hear footsteps approaching him. It was very familiar, and turned to the place he could hear it. Out of the shadows, Danny appeared.
"I've tried my best to track you down, I finally have you on front of me." Danny said.
"Why? Do you think you have what is takes to beat me?"
"No. You're a skilled fighter. We may be equal. Hell, you may be even better than me. But I love this city and I will do my best to do it." Danny exhaled, "But I'm giving you a chance to stop what you're doing. Because you're a friend."
"I decline. I rather settle this like real men." Matt smiled.
"So be it."
Danny and Matt ran towards each other and fought in the middle. Matt took the first blow, striking Danny on his left side. He fell on one leg but retaliated by sweeping Matt off his feet and punching him in the chest. They continued, beating each other in hand to hand combat. Danny threw Matt on the side of a train cargo and he shouted in pain. He kicked him in the face but was still kneeling. Danny tried to punch but Matt dodged it quickly and did a kick of his own.
"You're a better fighter than last time." Matt noticed.
"Well, I'm feeling a little lucky today." Danny smiled.
They missed their punches at the start of their fight. Matt got it going when he knocked Danny off his feet and followed it by a punch in the gut. Danny blocked his fist from hitting his face and threw it away from him. He rolled to him and kicked him further and into the side of a train. Matt could sense that fatigue was kicking into him by the way he was breathing heavily. The kick he delivered to Matt's gut was weak than others. Matt took advantage and switched positions with him. Now Matt was delivering kicks and punches to his chest and face.
"You made me use it." Danny muttered as his fist started glowing.
"No!"
Danny struck Matt with the Iron Fist, sending him hitting the train on the other side of the track. He fell on the ground, shouting in pain. Danny had to crouch to give himself a breather. Matt couldn't feel his legs at first but he started gaining strength. Danny walked towards him.
"I think you're out of you're Kilgrave spell. I think you're fine now, right Matt?" Danny asked while holding his left chest. "We can go home. You can go to Jessica. I can go to Colleen. We're going to pretend like this never happened."
"Danny?" Matt asked.
"There's the Matt I know. Come here." Danny smiled and started to help Matt up, "Let's just find a bar near here and call it a day. What do you say."
Matt suddenly kicked Danny in the face and he fell back a bit. Danny's Iron Fist started to come back but Matt covered it with his baton and pulled him closer to him. He turned around so he was falling towards him and he kicked him away. Matt turned the batons into knives he was using with Kilgrave.
"It was a honour fighting with you," Matt paused, "But I am the superior."
"Nice..." Danny spat out blood, "Knowing you, bud."
Suddenly somebody kicked Matt out of the way and onto the side of the train. He went threw it and inside the cargo train. The person helped Danny stand up. His face was bruised and some parts were already swelling. Matt had gotten away by using some of his parkour skills.
"Who are you?" Danny asked, taking a glance at the person who had helped him.
"Elektra Natchios. Former associate of Matthew Murdock." She said, "I was in Paris, healing. Sorry I wasn't over sooner."
"It's actually the right time." Danny grunted, "So you know he's Daredevil."
"I'll explain it to you in the hospital."
"No. Not there." Danny moaned in pain. "Take me to Alias Investigations. If you take me to the hospital, I'll be questioned by the Avengers. And if they find out where Matt is, they'll lock him up."
"Sounds serious." Elektra sighed and looked at a bruised Danny, "Alias it is."
