Chapter 7: Rethink
—3 days later—
Robbie waited for Danny and Luke to arrive outside the Dojo with his car. They took a few days off to rethink about their plan on how to get Matt back. Hope was already visiting Jessica daily to check if they have gotten Matt out of his insanity. The only think anyone could talk about was the death of Detective Mahoney.
"Any news on Matt or what?" Robbie asked as the two men approached him.
"Nothing. He's been silent since the police station. The Avengers are really in this situation." Luke sighed, "We need to get Matt back."
"What's your solution?"
"We've been talking about it since yesterday but we don't know how or what will draw the attention of Kilgrave." Danny answered. "Unless..."
"Unless what? If we draw Matt out then he'll hide and Matt will be blamed again." Luke said before Danny could finish.
"Kilgrave is obsessed with Jessica. We have to draw him out by using Jessica." Danny suggested.
"No... no. That's a big no no." Robbie said.
"The last time Kilgrave and Jessica had a long conversation was when she broke his neck. Why would he even let her live." Luke added.
"Because he still loves her. Let's just give it a try, guys. If it doesn't, I'm afraid we won't get Matt back."
"Think positive, Danny. Don't have to be so negative." Luke chuckled as he walked around the car, "I call shotgun."
"What does that mean?" Danny asked, getting in the back.
—Alias Investigations—
Hope was about to leave. She was already gathering her things when Jessica asked her to stay. Hope knew she was scared so she decided to talk with her for a few more minutes.
"Kilgrave can control you. Hell, he can control the whole Avengers. So I ask you this in return, stay away from this." Jessica explained.
"I know how dangerous this is, Jessica. But this threat is dangerous to the whole world. We can possibly be seeing nukes in the sky. Trust me, the Avengers can handle this." Hope said, "Just say the word, and we'll take the matter in our hands."
"We had a deal, Hope. Seven days and if he doesn't turn back or he kills one more person, he goes to your prison."
"I know. You know my number." Hope smiled as she stood up, "Scott! Are you ready to leave?"
She waited for a response but she didn't get any. Jessica got worried because it might be Kilgrave.
"I'll use your bathroom for a moment." Hope said, bringing her suitcase along with her.
"Sure. I'll just watch the door." Jessica said and opened the drawer with the handgun in it.
She held it under the desk and waited for someone to enter. Through the glass, she saw moving. Mainly something too small to see. Suddenly Luke and Danny bursted into her apartment.
"Jessica, we need to leave!" Luke said, opening the door.
"What do you mean we have to leave? You're the only two assholes I've seen all day." Jessica said.
"We saw someone and then a split second later, he wasn't there. I think we have a teleporter." Luke said. Suddenly he was flung into the wall but nothing was there to push him.
A person in a red suit appeared on front of them. Behind him, a person in a yellow and black suit walk in.
"Who are you two?" Jessica asked, as their masks retracted. It was Hope and Scott in their Ant-Man and the Wasp suits. "I should have known."
"Too late." Hope chuckled. "So I assume your Luke and Rand, of course. I thought you two were crooks."
"Just wait for the Heroes for Hire and you'll recognise our faces anywhere." Danny smiled.
"What's a Heroes for Hire exactly?" Hope asked.
"We're planning to open up a agency where when there's a crime, we'll be there to answer it." Danny explained.
"It's still a work in progress." Luke added.
"Cool! I want to be a part of it." Scott happily said. "When will it open?"
"Sadly, it's only for two people. It's just him and I." Danny said. "And aren't you an Avenger now?"
"I'm so telling Steve." Hope chuckled as she and Scott exited the apartment. "Just call me!"
Once they were gone, Luke had to apologise for the broken wall he made in her office. She didn't mind, because Hogarth gave her a lot of money the past two months. Danny and Luke finally had the time to explain the plan.
"Look. We're going to make Kilgrave come out of the hiding hole. And once he comes out, we catch him." Danny smiled after he finished.
"Alright, Iron Clad. We've been through it a hundred times already. The same result is how will you get him out?"
"This is the hard part." Luke cleared his throat, "We need you to lure him out."
"Un-fucking-believable. You've seen what happens to me when I'm in his control and now you want me throw myself into his direction?" Jessica argued.
"We need you to get him out. We didn't necessarily say we will feed you to him." Luke answered back. "Robbie's already downstairs tracking Matt's location. We almost have him."
"You promise, okay?"
—New York—
Kilgrave was enjoying his breakfast. Scrambled egg, sausages and a English muffin. All Matt was getting was anything that was inside the fridge. They've been living the life hiding inside, being anonymous to the entire world. They should live like this their entire life.
But during his meal, the doorbell rang. He remember he ordered some orange juice but he didn't get any.
"Matt! Can you get the bloody door! My mouth is full!" Kilgrave shouted as he chewed on his sausage.
"Will do." Matt sighed, standing up.
Matt walked towards the door, expecting the room service but instead it was a woman in a biker jacket, jeans and boots. He looked at the bedroom and decided to open the door since he could handle it. Jessica walked in calmly staring at Matt.
"Seems like this is the first time we met, don't you think, Matt?" Jessica muttered.
"'Matt! Who is it?" Kilgrave asked.
"Jessica Jones." Matt said.
"Jessica Jones?!" Kilgrave repeated in happiness. He walked outside the door and looked at her face, "Well look who came crawling back."
"I can sense three more people coming. They're on the elevator." Matt said.
"I know. This is a trap. I know you're mysterious ways, Jessica Jones." Kilgrave sighed, "Too bad we're not together anymore."
"Zip it, asshole. Save that for later." Jessica smirked as Luke sent Matt through the wall when they entered.
"Stop!" Kilgrave shouted. Luke and Danny kept on running towards him even if he commanded.
"Your commands mean nothing to us now." Luke chuckled as he grabbed Kilgrave by the neck. "You're going to jail."
"Not all of... you." Kilgrave muttered as Luke tightened the grip. "Kill them all!"
Robbie, in his Ghost Rider form, started slashing his chain around, trying to hit Jessica or Danny. Luke had to get rid of Kilgrave since Robbie almost hit him in the chest. Kilgrave ran through the fighting and ran outside the door.
"Just wait! It will wear off for Robbie since he commanded him for the first time." Jessica said.
After a while, Robbie suddenly retracted his chain and turned back into his human form. Jessica immediately ran to the other room to see Matt but found out he wasn't there. The window was opened and he was presumed to escape.
"Damn it!" Jessica punched the wall which broke. "I'm leaving."
Luke grabbed her by the arm, "We need to go catch him."
"Fuck off! I'm going to sleep!" Jessica shouted, walking outside which left the three Defenders in the room.
"Let her go Luke." Danny sighed, "Robbie needs some rest. He's getting a headache."
