Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Help
"Get up, Dylan!" Brighid shouted as she pulls me up from lying down. I do think I have a minor concussion of our landing but it doesn't matter when everything around us is shaking and in chaos. As she pulls me up and helps me to find my balance. She took my hand as we paved our way to safety. There are falling debris coming from the ceiling. The old building already saying its weak structured. As we bound to some young people, we try our best to help them and to come with us as we are heading to a more secure room.
"Wait, wait, I need to see my friend!" I jerked my hands off from her.
She immediately looked back on me, her face was plastered in shocked and worried. "She could be anywhere safe... just please, come with me."
But for a few seconds, my head wasn't that clear. I just heard all the noises around and my thoughts were all over. I came back to my senses when Brighid jumped on me, putting her hands on my shoulder and keeps shaking on me.
"We have to go, Dylan." She reminded and I just nod to her.
As she grabs my hand, we take hallways and hallways. Some people are busting on our way, panicking and wanting to get out of the chaos but they can't get out of the place where they are locked into. Some are screaming of help, crying into the feeling of devastation and some are lost to what was happening.
As we finally reach the room we could stay, Brighid and I stayed under the desk. Uncomfortably we fitted under. We stayed in silence while we're hearing everybody shouting for help and emergencies.
"What about everybody?" I asked Brighid.
Her breathing was in a rapid rate, her chest like gonna explode if she doesn't go into proper breathing. She shook her head instead, "we can't help everybody Dylan..." she muttered, she wiped her sweat on her forehead. I could totally read her face. She's worried and shocked to what's happening.
The High Council has gone too far. They already shaking the ground as to make the process falls into a difficult trial.
"What if everyone doesn't survive this abortion, what about the movement?"
"Then the least will do." She said, "the movement doesn't stop just because the abortion has started. They wanted us in their field and they're killing us. And you know what that means if you are strong enough to hold on tight to what might kill you... that's what they are looking for."
"What do you mean?"
"They are elimination those weaklings." She said, "the weak ones who even from the start doesn't hold any strengths." She took a deep breath, "now we must wait if most of us had survived the abortion and then I can tell... the movement will start as soon as possible."
"I just hope it didn't have to be like this."
"You know what's worst?" she muttered, "living in the field and those young people who are fighting for their lives cannot escape the anguished of High Council."
"Don't you think we're being unfair to what they are doing? They're risking their lives over their—on the field and here we are, just planning our rendezvous of destroying High Council. We are much cruel than them."
She shook her head, doesn't agree to what I said, well she was always opposite to what I believe in. "You're pointing something wrong, Dylan. We are also risking something here, you just think of how they are dealing alone outside but we are here are also doing it. We aren't cruel, we just use our brain to be against of what system manipulated us."
"If you say so..." I stayed in silence after what she said.
We listen to our surroundings, even the walls are starting to crack and the ground is opening into small creaks. The desk whose keeping us safe from the falling debris wasn't gonna hold that long. I'm not scared of what is happening, I was afraid of what it's gonna left.
"W-Why it was called abortion in the first place?" I asked Brighid out of nowhere.
"Abortion is an inhuman process of killing a person inside the womb. Just like what we're doing in the process, the rebirth is qualified us being the person and the field what we are into are the womb. And as they are starting to kill what's inside, they don't want anyone to live whose gonna be a reason for the fall down of their governance."
"Just the means of killing some people are killing some potential person, right?"
She nodded, "we don't have a choice... but as what are we're doing, we are resisting from them. We won't let them kill us as we hold tight to each other hands as fight until there is no more High Council to rule the world and no more wall would separate us."
"Too sad for a world we had," I sighed. "It wasn't even like this before."
"But the world is changing, evolving into a new prospect."
Our attention plucked when we heard two voices, panicking and shouting into each other. As we heard them entering the room, they started to calm down and I get to recognize the voice of the girl. Brighid tries to stop me on putting my head out of the desk but I didn't mind her and so I when I search for the two people who entered the room. I saw Cha and the guy across my room.
"Cha!" I called her out, she look on me when she heard my voice. I run into her and hugged her tight, "glad you're safe."
She caresses my back, sobbing. "I thought it was gonna be my end, Dy..."
"What are you saying?" I asked.
"I found her trapped between the walls... she's shouting, screaming for help. I didn't hesitate to get her out. In the movement, we are all family here." He explained.
I nodded to him, "thank you..." and offered my hand to him but he just looks at it and nods.
"Guys! Hide under, now!" Brighid shouted.
We immediately hide under the desk and let ourselves calm and still for the meantime. We don't know when will the ground stop from shaking. We don't know what's happening outside and what will happen to the rest of us.
Not that long, everything stopped when the ground stops from shaking.
"Wait, don't move..." Brighid ordered. "There may still some things could fall, aftershocks are still evident in this event."
"We should get into the arena." The guy said the three of us look at him. "Before I come to help Cha, I've heard that some people are heading into the arena and we could be safe there but along the way, we couldn't make it to the arena as we couldn't risk ourselves from the falling debris."
"We should go to the arena!" Cha suggested.
"Wait," Brighid said, "I need to confirm that." She said.
Brighid opens her comms when the signal got through she made contact with someone. Base on her words, she's talking to someone who's on the arena and just as this guy said, they are safe and secured over there. When Brighid has finally come into the decision and as we plan of getting out this room and get to the arena.
"On my mark," Brighid said and we nodded on her. "Go!" she shouted and one by one, we stepped out under the desk and leave the room.
As I just recognize and not totally familiar with the whole place, I followed them. As we come near closer to the arena, we heard some crying and screams not that far from us. I stopped for a moment and listening to where direction it does coming from.
"Dylan! We have to go!" Cha grabbed my hand.
"Someone needs our help," I said to them.
"We can't help, everybody, Dylan. I told you that." Brighid said.
"I will," and all of us looked into him, "I'll find and help that person bring inside the arena... so you guys, just go to the arena."
"Are you sure?" Brighid said, "you don't have to do this."
He shook his head, "we couldn't lose the number of our movement." He said, "now go!" as he shouted, we ran as fast as we can. We didn't look back as we are sure that he will come back with the person he helps.
When we reach the arena, they immediately open the door for us. And when I look around, I saw everybody in fear and I understand what they feel. Not that long when we saw Barry walking towards us. He asked everyone's condition and he was glad that everyone made it safe here.
"What should we do now?" Brighid asks Barry.
He took a deep breath, "I think it is the time we move."
"Everyone doesn't feel good, they are hurt and scared." Brighid countered.
Barry nodded, "I know that but we must not let fear overcome us. We should fight."
"The thing is Barry, they are hurt," I said, I couldn't handle how he ignores how everyone was injured and hurt because of the event. "You couldn't just send your people into the field when they injured. I know we are all scared, I'm scared! Everyone is but we couldn't push and run to everything. You say you had planned, follow it not just you thought we needed to move forward. Look at your people, don't be blinded and not listening to their cries."
"Stop it, Dylan," Brighid said.
"No, no, he's right, Brig," Barry said, and a part of the inside was happy. "I couldn't just let my people right when they are already hurt. The High Council are already making their way to stop a lot of participants to make it through the process. One by one, by the events occurring it is impossible that less than ten people would make it and step into the Noble Land."
"This time it isn't," J said, one of the so-called intelligent people.
"How come, J?" Barry asked.
"You will know then when we announced later our movement plan." A said.
Barry nodded, "it is what we needed." He said, "but for now, we need everybody to calm down and felt secured in the arena." Barry patted my shoulder, "thank you for enlightening me, Dylan. You're really big help to the movement."
And I don't know if that's a compliment or not.
Cha and I find seated at the corner just like the others. There's too much problem into this group. I'm not thinking that what they are doing wouldn't come in greatness and to what they wanna achieve, I just don't see that battling against the High Council is too impossible.
They are more powerful than we are. More advanced, armed and prepared than what they are planning. On what I observe, there's a little chance that this movement would go into success... and why in the first place I joined them?
To survive.
That's how you do it. They are right on some point, that you won't make it alive outside on the field. There are things that are inevitable but death. The process only leads into the term, dead or alive. And how we decide, rules our path to what we want to achieve.
I'm still not giving up to the hope that I'm gonna step in the Noble Land and make everything right and prove them wrong.
Not that long when we heard someone, "help! Help!" all of our attention was caught by him. It is him! He saved her! He entered the arena carrying the unconscious girl. And some who have to experience in medical assistance helped them.
And the High Council were also wrong, these people aren't bad after all. They just want to live with equality and to what they deserve. All of us were living in despair where Licit People are making money out of us and we cannot let them continue their dirty works. It is not how it should be done.
Thedefectors aren't fighting for their survival, they are fighting for a life thathas been taken away from them years ago. And I'm one of them.
