Chapter 10

Chapter 10

Dreads

The night comes in peace but still, the risk of getting killed was lingering around. We don't know if she's really a sharpshooter but to what it cost, we need to be safe around, stay on the ground as long as Al finished his technology. I didn't bother him on the progress, dude, we still got a long month ahead of us and those coming months are the one we should prepare because these things like this are the one we didn't see coming.

"Shit!" Al hissed, he almost crashed his technology and I can see that he's already impatient of making it work. "Dylan, I don't know if I could make this work at all."

I shook my head, "whatever you're saying, I'm not hearing it and I know you can you do it."

He took a sigh, "this is all fuck up." he said, "if I didn't get to make this work, we'll do it between life or death circumstances."

I just nodded to him but something pop-up in my head, "I have an idea."

"What are you doing?" he asked.

"Just let me make this thing work out," I said.

I don't think if this idea would work so easily, I really don't know what's goin' on, on every person's mind. They think that this process, you would only become in power if you come in greatness within everybody. Killing, taking so much advantage and cheating. All of that came in such reason but we cannot rule this, it's always part of the game and the only thing we can, to make things right and as to the way it is, we get to ride with them.

"Hey, Dreads!" I shouted, calling out her attention but I can't sneak out to know if I got her attention, "I know you know me, I'm Dylan! That's right, you heard it before and mocked me because I said my name—" Al hit me with his elbow and he's asking me what the hell am I doing, "I got this Al." I said to him and goes back to Dreads. "Hey, I know you're still there and wanted to shoot us so bad! But that's willfully wrong! You can't just shoot anyone because you like but hey, thank you for doing that earlier, they nearly killed us."

"Dylan!" Al said and I just shrugged because I was just telling the truth and that would make him a lot of time to do his tech. "Just point it out, don't tell anything that nothing matters!"

I nodded to him, "that's why doing, Al... but yeah, I will keep it more directly to the point."

I clear my throat and think of all the words that would make me have more power, within the words I speak.

"Hey, I know you're still there! Please, let us through and don't shoot us. We all wanted the same thing here, to survive and that's what I'm asking on you! Spare us with your anger and give us this chance to run and you won't ever see us again."

But still, silence in return.

"How did you become like this?! Would you want to be a person living in the Noble Land who killed just to survive!" yeah, I know that she already killed nine people and I'm getting through her conscience but I don't think it's getting through. "Are you still there?"

As we waited for an answer, we thought were good and I can see that Al doesn't have to worry about his tech but when we were going to stand up, a bullet has been shot. We immediately fall in the ground to get away with it and that's her answer and she's waiting for us and she never listen to my words because she still wants to kill us both.

"What should we do now?" Al asked, still pressured to finish his tech and I understand what's keeping him from getting it to work because he has no sufficient parts and tools to make it work. The only thing he has was his screwdriver and some signal inferring data.

"I gotta risk this," I said to him.

"What?" he asked in confusion, "what are you doing, Dylan?"

I didn't answer him instead, I stood up from the open grounds and that would make her have the open window to shoot me without trying hard to do so. A red dot coming from her direction was pointing at my body. Oh, good. She's using a sniper and that's why she shoots those crazy people straight into their heads and myself, giving an open arm to accept all the bullets coming from her—but that's not what I want.

"Hey, I know you're just one shoot away from me. And I'm giving myself out for it. But you know what's the most thing I'm afraid of, didn't make it to the end. If you still had the conscience to spare us—" I didn't get to finished what I'm saying when I heard her voices and I think something happened to her.

I immediately looked at Al to know what happened and still, he's doing his tech under pressure.

"Did that work, Al?" I asked.

He looked at me confused, "no, I didn't make it halfway, why?"

"She's gone..." I said because the red light point at me was gone, "what happened?"

"Now is the chance!" he didn't have any word but that and we immediately run away from the rooftop and get inside the building to keep away from that dread girl. My chest is at a rapid rate and I couldn't believe how that thing happened that really confuses me. There's no such thing I've heard but her voice was like struggling from something—but that didn't matter, we're safe and the only thing we got to do is to get away from danger.

Al and I look for rooms along the building and because of the tsunami alert, some people left the place and move into another higher land. When we found a room that it doesn't look like someone has been here. We secured the place, blocking heavy weight furniture on the doorway and putting a black cloth on the window so that they won't see who's the person inside.

I lay down the floor and stare at the ceiling and then all the things happened earlier couldn't make me help but to laugh at it. Al shared the thoughts too. Running away from the tsunami, getting inside the rooftop just to get a higher place and be the sacrifice for their oath of no-such-thing. I took a deep breath and help myself to calm down because all the things had happened are not usually can be done by an average person. I'm not saying I'm not an average person, we all are but we get to differ on things how we control and manage it. Maybe that's the way how we ruled it.

But that dread girl almost killed me and I don't know what happens to make her stop.

"Do you really think she gives up?" I asked Al.

"Hmm..." he mumbled, "I don't think so."

I placed my hands below my head while talking to him, he's on the couch lying down. "Why do you say that?"

"It is not possible for a person to give up on some silly words she just heard from." I looked at him and realized what he said and glared him for mocking that on me, and I know that speech was really good and that, I think, made her realize that life is really precious that no one shall kill. "Kidding, Dy. I really don't have the idea of how this could possibly go."

"Would you think someone comes after her that moment?"

He just shrugged off his shoulder, "couldn't say that we're nowhere to know what she's doing."

I nodded and agreed to what he said. I didn't get her to fall on my words and something must have gone after her and I don't know what is it and I think we should also be afraid of that because everywhere and everything is a danger.

We also need to stay up to this room until the flood dries out and we could find some place somewhere else that we could save our time and find some strategy on how to make these things works. They were really trying to give us much more than risking our lives, we should know how to keep on moving without doing anything to regret after all of this because in Noble Land after you step on that land, there are only two things you can do. Move forward or relive your past and eventually make you feel crazy.

But once I got there to the Noble Land, I would fight the High Council to stop doing this process and make every people live in a normal without the diversion of status and how everyone lives. I could make it to the end if it meant for me—but I won't forget all the things I left behind just like what my brother did to me. When we heard that he got through the end and reach the Noble Land and legalizing his status and becoming a Licit People, everything change and his promises seem to never happen.

I would do everything to get you guys back. I will do that, I promise.

Those words of him were broken years ago. We never heard of him, he didn't even send us any of what he's getting there. He became selfish and he became ruthless because he had now the power to support the process that actually, he should never do.

Our family is against by this process, my parents failed to passed their tests and because of that, they promise to each other that we won't ever step into this process but my father died and no one can stop my brother to do his thing—because he said, he would do anything for us—but those words aren't what's happening.

Mom let me get through the process even though it's against on her will but if I don't comply with the regulations of the High Council, our next generation would never ever step a foot into the process. I left my Mother and this is all for her—and not like my brother, I would never abandon my family.

I felt a minor sting in my tracker that makes me so uncomfortable. And I don't know what's happening but this shouldn't happen for most of the times, Al doesn't feel it. Why would I be the only one to feel it? Does it matter? Or just their technical error?

Or something is coming that us would never see it—may be, it was just in my head and all I can think of is to reach the end of rebirth.

I fall back on sleep and let it slip until thesun comes out and what could happen next, really? It is just the firsttrimester and all we feel is the struggle and gripping into not falling intothe pit of death—just like what Al told—it is the phase of danger were everyoneis at risk—can be killed in sudden death or be dead in such no foreseeableevent. We don't know... but we'll come and fight this through.
