Chapter 3
Getting the casket out of the hospital was the hardest part. Yes my suit was splattered with blood and fragments of his brain but Jack was still alive. I explained everything to the hospital crew and the Secret Service and they were sworn to secrecacy not to say a word and never did. We ordered in the casket and Jack who was now paralysed for life, was assisted by myself into it. When we got the car in the hearse, I of course had to act like I was crying and was now a widow, but secretly I wasn't.
When we got on Air Force One, I had telephoned Lyndon at the hospital and I don't know he did it but he got a wheelchair smuggled on. Then on the plane, everything began to unfold that would seal my fate with Jack.
Air Force One
Jack was assisted out of the coffin by Jackie and into the wheelchair. Everyone on board and the Kennedy family in Hyannisn Porr had been informed and they too were sworn to secrecacy.
After Lyndon was sworn in, the plane took off and everyone huddled around the television to watch Cronkite announce the secretly false news.
"From Dallas, Texas. The flash apparently official. President Kennedy died at 1pm, CST. 2 o'clock EST, some thirty eight minutes ago". Afterwards, in the private bedroom Lyndon along with Jackie and Jack discussed where Jack would go.
"I have an idea!" Jackie jumped up. "And what might it be?" Jack asked. Jackie deep down loved the fact that Jack still had his Massachusetts accent. The voice that had captured the attention, the hearts and the faith of so many people. And many of whom, believed he was dead.
"I could call Mr Onassis. He has a spare villa on his island and I could ask him if you could live there. It would be private and secret" Jackie suggested. Lyndon and Jack looked at each other before nodding.
"Sounds like a reasonable plan Jackie" Lyndon agreed. Jackie smiled triumphantly. However Lyndon had a question. "But what about the funeral? Are you just going to bury an empty casket? What about when Jack really dies?". Both the Kennedys knew that Lyndon had a very good point.
"Well..." Jackie hesitated. She thought. If Aristotle Onassis did agree for Jack to live on the island, Jackie would need to unfortunately bury an empty casket. But her mind was already planning everything out. She explained her plan to Lyndon. "Well, I would bury an empty casket but make sure, an exact replica-" Jackie started.
"Same quality, material, everything" Jackie continued. "Make sure it is exactly the same, so when Jack does die, we'll go to the cemetery, middle of the night and have a private funeral" Jackie explained. However Jack had a question that desperately needed to be answered. "But what if you die before me?".
"We'll reinterr the empty casket and put me in beside you. Then when you die, the midnight funeral will go ahead. And you won't need to reinterr me" Jackie told them of her plan. And it sounded good. "I'll secretly draw up the plans for you" Lyndon stood up. Jackie nodded with a smile. "I'll feed you through information" Jackie and the new President Johnson shook hands.
The plans were settled. Jackie got on the phone to Mr Onassis straight away.
