Chapter 14
1981
Doubleday Offices
"So I became the editor at Viking Press before moving here" Jackie finished. "That's brings it up to here". She had finished her story. She tried to hide her giggles as Edward looked on in disbelief.
"I-" Edward stammered. "I don't know what to say". He looked at the now smiling Jackie. "And you've been hiding this for eighteen years?!" Edward said. He was actually waiting to hear Jackie say, "I'm only joking" but she never did.
"Jack is still at 1040. He's perfectly healthy". Jackie opened the drawer at her desk. Inside she had a silver photo frame and a black and white photo in it. She was surprised nobody had discovered it before. But then again, the team respected her privacy.
She handed it to Edward. "This was taken just last week". Edward looked at it in disbelief. There sat Jack, as Jackie described. In a wheelchair looking perfectly healthy. And she sat on the sofa next to him. Their hands joined together. It was taken in her 1040 library.
"I just don't believe it" Edward's heart was still trying to let it sink in. "So at Arlington Cemetery, there really is no body there at all". Jackie nodded. She thought about something that just came into her mind. Then she put a question towards Edward.
"You know, Jack is at my apartment right now. Would you like to meet him?" Jackie asked. Edward fell silent.
