14. Retrieving The Locket
Y/N's POV
As soon as the name was uttered from Umbridge's mouth, my heart dropped. A familiar face stepped inside the courtroom, her face pale and terrified as she stumbled into the room.
There were more Dementors in here, casting their freezing aura over the place; they stood like faceless sentinels in the corners farthest from the high, raised platform. Here, behind a balustrade, sat Umbridge, with Yaxley on one side of her, and Hermione, quite as pale as Tabitha, on the other. At the foot of the platform, a bright silver, long-haired cat prowled up and down, and I realised that it was there to protect the prosecutors from the despair that emanated from the Dementors. That was for the accused to feel, not the accusers.
"Sit down." said Umbridge in her soft, silky voice. I clenched my fists as I looked at the woman. I looked at Tabitha although it was no use, she would not recognise me for I was in the body of another. She probably thought that I was one of the people who wished to see her exiled from the magical community, or worse.
"Your name is Tabitha Primrose Wayne?" Umbridge asked her.
Tabitha nodded shakily. I wondered why she was being trialed, I thought it was just adults being trialed in this court. Perhaps Tabitha was an exception.
"Your father is David Wayne and your mother is Alaina Wayne?" Umbridge asked.
Tabitha, again, nodded.
"All three of you went into hiding, we were only able to locate you due to the Trace. Where are your parents?"
"I don't know."
Umbridge scoffed. "Don't lie to me you pathetic-"
"-my father is a wizard and my mother is a witch." Tabitha interjected bravely.
"A wand was taken from you upon your arrival at the Ministry today, Miss Wayne," Umbridge said in her sickly sweet voice, "nine inches, pine, unicorn-hair core. Do you recognise the description?"
Tabitha nodded, obviously still terrified but trying her best to maintain herself.
"Could you please tell us from which witch or wizard you took that wand?"
"T-took?" Tabitha asked, shocked. "I didn't t-take it from anybody. I b-bought it when I was eleven, five years ago. It chose me."
Umbridge laughed a soft girlish laugh that made me want to attack her. She leaned forward over the barrier, to better to observe her victim, and something gold swung forward too and dangled over the void: the locket.
Hermione had seen it; she let out a little squeak, but Umbridge and Yaxley, still intent upon their prey, were deaf to everything else.
"No," said Umbridge, "no, I don't think so, Miss Wayne. Wands only choose witches or wizards. You are not a witch. I have your responses to the questionnaire that was sent to you here. Mafalda, pass them to me."
Hermione fumbled around to collect the document that Umbridge desired, I could see her hands shaking and I immediately wanted to place my hand over her, but it wasn't possible.
I was watching Hermione when a voice appeared behind both of us.
"I'm behind you."
Hermione jumped slightly but I remained calm, it was Harry under his Invisibility Cloak, I nodded and kept my gaze straight ahead.
"That's-that's pretty, Dolores," Hermione said, pointing at the pendant gleaming in the ruffled folds of Umbridge's blouse.
"What?" snapped Umbridge, glancing down. "Oh yes, an old family heirloom," she said, patting the locket, "the S stands for Selwyn...I am related to the Selwyns...indeed, there are few Pure-blood families to whom I am not related...a pity."
I threw up internally at all the inbreeding that must've happened within the Pure-blood community in order to maintain their supremacist views and obsession with their blood purity.
Umbridge continued in a louder voice, laughing and mocking Tabitha's family before trying to pressure the girl into revealing her parents' location. It was heartbreaking, they were all on the run together but Tabitha was unfortunate enough to still have the Trace on her.
Yaxley joined in on the jeering and I tilted my head back quietly and muttered something to Harry.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
All I heard from Harry was a quick grunt. I smirked to myself, ready for all the mayhem I was going to cause.
"STUPEFY!" me and Harry both simultaneously yelled, light erupting from the tips of our wands.
The jet of red light from my wand hit Umbridge whilst Harry's spell his Yaxley, the two of them crumpling downwards.
"Harry! F/N!" Hermione yelled. I had completely forgotten that she was using my other name so my mind didn't register that she was talking to me.
"If you think me and F/N were just going to stay there and let that happen Hermione-"
"-no!" Hermione exclaimed. "Tabitha!"
I glanced over and saw Dementors approach Tabitha as she let out a petrified scream as they tried to administer the Dementor's kiss on her.
"EXPECTO PATRONUM!" I bellowed, using my memories with Hermione to conjure my tiger.
Harry had also cast his Patronus so together, both tiger and stag both leaped towards to repel the Dementors.
"I'll get the Horcrux," I told the other two, "you get her out of here."
"But how are we going to get out of here with all those Dementors?" Hermione asked.
"Patronuses." Harry replied.
Harry freed Tabitha from the chair as Hermione tried to conjure her Patronus.
"It's the only spell she's had trouble with," Harry commented, "bit unfortunate...but you got this Hermione!"
On her fifth try, her otter emerged from her wand and made its way to the tiger and the stag.
"If you follow our er....Patronuses, you'll get out of here," Harry told Tabitha who was shaking slightly, "we'll remove the Trace from you so you should get back to your family. Try and go abroad if you can."
Tabitha nodded and with a newfound braveness, she began to leave the room.
"Get out of here." I told Harry and Hermione. "Go find Ron. I'll be with you guys. I'll get rid of Tabitha's Trace as well."
Hermione gave me one last look and I gave the two of them a determined look as they left hastily.
I was currently wearing a suit, I threw the jacket off leaving me in a long-sleeved shirt. I loosened the tie before walking over to where Umbridge was.
"Now...what to do with you." I said to myself, twirling my wand in my hand.
I tied up both Yaxley and Umbridge before gagging them so neither could speak. When they were conscious again, they all looked at me. My transformation was wearing off, I was returning to my usual self. The shirt was slightly loose on me but it still slightly fit me.
"Surprise." I said with a malicious smile at both of them. "Bet you didn't expect this did you?"
The two of them both struggled against the ropes but I was certain they wouldn't be able to escape.
"Well let's play a game shall we," I smirked, "who to kill first?"
The anger I had within me was consuming me, even if I could restrain myself I didn't wish to. These two were horrible people who deserved worse than death.
Fear and betrayal crept up into their eyes as they realised that Voldemort's prodigal grandson wasn't really on their side. The revelation was shocking to them but I didn't care, they would be dead before I could tell anyone.
"Avada Kedavra." I said casually, pointing my wand at Yaxley as he dropped dead right in front of me.
"Oops," I said with a sadistic smile, my eyes glinting ever so slightly, "my wand must've slipped."
By now, Umbridge was fully aware of her fate and seemed ready to accept it. But I wasn't ready to let her go that easily, I wanted my share of fun.
I walked towards her. "Lovely locket that is Dolores, isn't it?"
I bent down and levelled myself with her in the chair, looking at the locket. With one swift grasp, I tore it off her neck and had it clasped in my hands.
I pocketed it. "Shame it's mine now."
I looked around the room and casted a Muffling Charm before removing the spell on Umbridge that prohibited her from speaking.
"You foul backstabbing bastard-"
"Crucio." I said calmly, Umbridge's foul words being replaced by excruciating screams.
This was fun. I liked watching her suffer.
Once her screams had subsided, I looked at her. "What did you want to say?"
She remained silent.
"That's what I thought."
I started pacing around where Umbridge was. "Well, do you remember when you taught Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts?"
Umbridge gave me a cautious nod.
"Well you said my death was an accident, but it really wasn't was it? I was actually killed by my grandfather. But then I found out he couldn't kill me so I came back to life. At this point, everyone thought I was dead and I lost my memories so I became F/N Malfoy and then had to all this double agent shit with Dumbledore. Shame he's dead now."
I took a pause to look at Umbridge's pathetic, toad-like face.
"Anyways, then I had to work for the Dark Lord which led me to killing an innocent family. Their son is nice though, I think I've traumatised him for life. Dick move from me."
Umbridge whimpered slightly. "Y-"
"SHUT UP!" I yelled. "I'M TALKING BITCH."
I cast the Cruciatus Curse on her yet again, her screams filling my ear like a symphony.
"Anyways, where was I? Oh yeah, he's with my ex-girlfriend, also known as the love of my life, now. Hermione Granger. You remember her?"
I looked at her but she wasn't doing anything.
"I said, do you remember her?" I repeated, using the Imperius Curse on her to make her nod.
"Then I had to kill my dad, because dear old grandfather wanted me to. Not my actual dad, my real dad was killed by Bellatrix. Then everything went downhill so yeah, it's been a shitty year. Sorry if I'm taking it out on you."
I looked at Umbridge, seeing nothing but pure evil within her. Hatred consumed me as I let out a roar of anger and knocked her chair over, causing her to yelp and crumple over.
"That's my life story, I feel like you deserve to hear that before I kill you." I told her quite plainly. "Any last words?"
Umbridge groaned from the floor.
"I suppose not then." I said before turning my back and walking away.
Without looking at her, I simply muttered the incantation in my head and with a swish of my hand, Dolores Umbridge was no more.
Good fucking riddance.
