Chapter 2: The Unexpected Guest
Percy's P.O.V.
Percy walked out of Cabin Three on his way to the bonfire area where the ceremony was being held. Piper was really the only one Percy talked to nowadays. He usually practiced sword fighting alone in the arena and spent the remainder of his time in his cabin, and the only person that he allows to come into his cabin was Piper. Heck, she even helped him choose what to wear.
In honor of Annabeth, everyone was wearing a camp half-Blood shirt. Even the Romans. Piper had eventually decided on a Camp Half-Blood shirt with khaki pants and dress shoes for Percy. As he stepped out of the cabin, Piper walked over and linked arms with Percy. "You ready Perce?" she asked.
"Yeah, I-I guess." He replied and they began walking in silence to the area of camp where the "service" was being held. When the two got to the campfire area, Piper took her seat in the front row as Percy continued up the stairs of the mini theatre and took his place by the fire that was rather dull as it reflected everyone's mood. After everyone was seated, Percy took the beautiful grey silky shroud that the Athena cabin had carefully woven for their lost sister, in his rough, calloused hands and slowly placed it into the fire. Everyone sat in silence for a while, just watching it burn until Piper eventually locked eyes with Percy, signaling him it was time to start.
"Um Hello," Percy started and he felt thousands of eyes on him. Despite how nervous it made him and his constant urge to just scream or sob, he was determined to do this. For Annabeth. He told himself. Percy mustered up all of the courage that he had and continued.
"Many of you from Camp Jupiter may have known Annabeth Chase as "that scary blond who judo-flipped Praetor Jackson. To those here at Camp Half-Blood, She may have been just a counselor, to others a leader, a friend, a family, and maybe even a hero. But she was so, so much more. But to me," Percy took a deep breath, stealing himself. "To me, she was the world. I have known her since I was twelve. I'm now 17 and going on 18. We were supposed to leave here together, finish high school, and go to college in New Rome together. But thanks to that stupid," Cue cursing in Latin and Greek for about 15 seconds straight from Percy. " Sorry, that stupid Hellhound, she won't get to see her own Eighteenth birthday. Which, by the way, is in eight days.
" Many of you may have thought that we were this perfect couple. Always have been. But it's not true. As she said last summer, when we first met she despised me, then after a little while she tolerated me, then she became my friend, then out of nowhere, we were each other's everything. But not for me. I loved her from the start, ever since I saw her princess curls for the very first time when she nursed me back to health." Percy gave a small watery smile and hung his head. When he looked up to start speaking again, the Son of Poseidon couldn't get more than a word out before everything went to Hades. "she-she" then his face dropped and he was in utter shock.
"Percy?" Piper called worriedly, "Percy, what's wrong?"
All Percy did was point and say, "Sh-she-she's standing right there!"
