The Horrors

Percy POV

Reyna and I were walking back to the cabin. A sense of doom was approaching. I could feel it sweep over me in could, heavy waves, like rain falling on the ground during a storm getting more and more intense. I could feel Reyna slowly shivering. I looked to the sky and saw a storm cloud heading our ways. Most storms do pass over us. All storms do, except for those that are created from divine beings. I knew it was Mayhem. I could feel... darkness... rolling off of it. It was like the clouds were darkness, like the rain was pain, like the lightning was death. I slowly watched it circle overhead of the camp. I tried to will it away, but nothing happened. I just slowly watched people move inside because the rain was becoming too heavy. The lightning never struck the ground, but I was waiting for it to happen and strike someone, making the thunder like a malicious laugh. It never did though. No one got hurt, just wet. I didn't understand why Mayhem was doing this; then it came to me. He was showing off his power. He wanted us to fear him. He wanted us to know that he was more powerful. He wanted us to watch in fear and hope nothing bad happened, and most people did. This was his worst power, instilling fear in the most fearless of men. I just trudged on, ignoring it all to the best of my ability. I had my arm wrapped around Reyna, and we reached the Chaos Cabin.

"Reyna, are you ready?" I looked at her solemnly.

She just gave a nod in response.

"Good."

I slowly pushed the door open and stepped in behind Reyna. We walked over the the table where everyone was awaiting us. There was an eerie silence. No one was speaking to each other. No one was even smiling, not even the Stoll brothers. Connor and Travis just stood there, watching me, waiting for what I had to say. I looked at them, wondering how all of this could have happened. How was Mayhem instilling this much fear in everyone. It didn't make sense. I just looked around the table. Everyone's face held a sorrow of some sort. I finally spoke:

"Okay, this won't be easy. Connor, Travis, Nico, and Reyna, I need you four to do something incredibly dangerous for me. We need spies. I want you to be them. I trust all of you to do this, and I don't want to put you in danger, but I need somebody. Connor, Travis, you two say that you lost hope and don't want to die. Nico, say you want to step out of my spotlight. Say that you want to be out of my shadow, and you don't care how you do that. Reyna, we are going to have a public break up. This should make it much more believable for Mayhem to trust you. We don't have to go into specifics in the argument, just make it seem real. Can all of you do that?"

They all nodded their heads solemnly. I asked Reyna to come with me to talk about our plan....

3rd POV

A couple hours later

"HOW COULD YOU?!"

This attracted a lot of attention. Basically came to see the ruckus and saw Reyna and Percy in the middle of camp.

"Reyna, I didn't. I promise."

"YOU LEFT ME! You left me like all the ones I've loved have. You left me for months! I can't do this, Percy! I can't stand losing you!"

"You won't. I promise; you won't ever lose me."

"HOW CAN YOU JUST STAND THERE AND LIE TO ME?! If you're going to lie to me, this won't work."

"No, please...."

"Just, leave me alone. I want to be alone right now."

"Reyna...."

"Just go."

Reyna stormed off into the woods, and Percy just watched her go, feeling helpless.

(A/N I was thinking of starting this chapter like this, but this chapter is sad enough. I don't see the need to just pile on the pain even more, so I thought I would explain this scene before hand.)

Percy POV

I watched her go, feeling some pain. I felt the pain just because I was sending her into a dangerous situation. I didn't want to, but I knew I had to. This had to happen. I couldn't go on anymore without more information. I needed this. I watched Reyna's back disappear in the forest, and I knew she was meeting up with the others. I could only hope that it all went well from now on. I couldn't stop it now. It was too late for me to rethink anything. I turned around, keeping up my act. My face went blank, and I forced tears to roll down my cheeks, and I slowly walked back to the cabin. I walked in and closed the door behind me. I slid down the door to the floor and just sat there for a while. I felt someone put their arm around me and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I looked over and saw Nyx staring into my eyes. She gave me a soft smile and then pecked me on the lips and led me over to a couch in the cabin. She elongated it with magic and sent a message to my other girlfriends. After a minute or so passed, the others walked over. Nyx was leaning onto my left, and Hestia sat on my right just like Nyx, cuddling in. Artemis and Zoe sat on my lap and wrapped their arms around my neck. I wrapped my arms around each of their waists. Bianca and Hazel came up behind me and wrapped their arms around my chest. I needed this. I needed the comfort from all of them, and they knew it. I couldn't love them more in that moment than I did. I just wish that happiness lasted a little bit longer....

(A/N Thought of ending it here as well, but I thought that that would be too short for how long I've been away. So, enjoy... you all might not expect what is going to happen.)

Travis POV

We were preparing to head out on the road. I was with Connor, Nico, and Reyna. We were all standing at the top of Half-Blood Hill. I was watching over the camp as we decided to finally leave. Percy couldn't be with us as we left since we were supposedly betraying the campers. We trudged down the hill with thumping, thundering steps. I didn't want to leave. I knew it was going to be dangerous, but I also knew I couldn't just abandon this mission. If we didn't do this, we might not have a chance to win this war. We walked for a long time, longer than I could keep track of.

After a couple of hours, we decided to rest. The most logical place for Mayhem to be was in his own dimension. The council discussed this to great lengths, and we all had the same idea at the end, Mayhem had his own pocket dimension where he held his army and base. All we needed to do to get his attention was to sacrifice an offering to him. I was scared out of my mind when I started the fire for the offering. The fire finally lit, and I watched as Nico took a McDonald's Happy Meal and threw it into the fire. How he kept getting his supply of happy meals I would never know.

We waited for a couple minutes, and I was about to voice my opinion of it not working when the flames turned black and engulfed us entirely. None of us had anytime to react when we landed on cold, hard, marble floors. The four of us slowly got up, and I felt something prod my back. I turned my head and saw a shadowy misshapen figure. It held a spear of pure darkness and started to jab at me with it. I jumped back to avoid it's 'attacks'. That's when I noticed there were five more and they had us all surrounded with us four back to back with each other.

"Well, what do we have here?" a voice called out from the shadows surrounding the area we were in.

"Mayhem?" Reyna asked cautiously.

"Yes? What are four trusty members of Perseus Jackson's little... crew... doing here? I should have you killed just for even thinking of making an offering to me!"

"NO! Wait! We... we are here to help. Percy has hurt us. He betrayed us. I can't even stand the thought of going back to him. Please, we want to help you win," Nico pleaded with Mayhem's voice.

There was a slight chuckle that eventually turned into a full blown laugh. It would have been humorous if it wasn't for the odd feeling it gave off. There was a slight insanity to it. It was almost as if that laugh wasn't all the way truthful. I started to wonder how long it would continue when it was suddenly cut off.

Out of the black, Mayhem rushes forward and grabs Nico by the throat, "HOW DO I KNOW YOU AREN'T LYING TO ME?"

Nico was struggling for breath and fighting against the arm that was mercilessly holding him up.

"We aren't! I'll do whatever it takes to prove that!" I yelled in a panic to try and save Nico.

"Anything," Mayhem giggled slightly, "You may want to choose your words more wisely next time."

Mayhem finally dropped Nico and slowly stalked over to me. It was like a shark circling its next meal, trying to decide when the best opportunity to strike was.

"I meant it as long as it is possible for me to do."

"Let me think about it, and I'll get back to you. That is considering you live long enough for me to decide. I might just... kill you now!" He threatens as he unleashes a knife and holds it against my temple, "It would be so easy to just... slide this right in your brain. It would give me such satisfaction. Have you ever tasted blood? I don't mean from a cut hand on yourself or from bleeding in your mouth. I meant from scared... prey. It's invigorating. I could live off that stuff. You know what is even more fun? I can smell the fear oozing off of all of you. That isn't necessarily a bad thing though. It means you are smart. It is smart to fear me. If you didn't, you would just be foolish. You all know that I could end your pathetic existences you call lives in a matter of minutes... better yet, seconds. Wouldn't that be... entertaining?"

I gulped a small bit and responded, "Not too much for me I don't think."

I felt a twitch in the knife and expected to die when I heard a real laugh from the demented being next to me, "That was good. I'll keep you around for now. You could be useful for me. I just don't know too much yet. I'll get around to it.

"Slaves, lead them to the guest quarters. I'll let them rest for now. I'll have some of my minions sent for you in the morning. Have a goodnight," Mayhem chuckled as he walked back into the darkness.

We were all led out into the darkness and into four separate rooms. I watched the guards to my room leave and wondered what was going to happen tomorrow.

Next day

I was awoken roughly by a shove off the bed. I shot off the floor and got into a fighting stance. I looked around and saw another shadow minion just standing there. It started to walk away, and I got the idea that I should follow it.

I followed it into a large, main atrium, and I looked around as my escort left. I was the only one in the room. The room was plain yet decorative. It only had two colors: black and gray. The two colors were wonderfully intertwined though and created very specific designs. I was admiring the swirls of darkness when I heard a voice behind me:

"Travis, I had an interesting thought this morning. You were almost good enough or an actor for me to spare you. I was going to invite you in here and then just kill you, but I have a better idea. You won't like it, but I think I'm going to call in that 'anything' you would do for me. You up for it? You ready to do my bidding?"

(A/N Well, there you go. I finished. I'm back, and oh, it feels good. I'm sorry it took so long, but I finished this chapter, and it's kinda long. It's longer than a lot of the previous ones. Anyways guys, I hope you all enjoyed, see you next time.)
