Milo's POV

"Yah that's me" I was watching Amber and Maddie at the same time. "Listen, I am not going to tell my father about your guys line of work. He think's Maddie is one of Amber's friends from Denmark who has flown in for the week"

Maddie let out a deep sigh. Amber began to sign again.

"Thank you Milo" one of her brothers said over the phone. "We will come and get her in a few days, she probably safer there"

"Wait what is going on?!" Maddie yelled into the phone.

Conversations went on that amber stared at me, refusing to sign.

"What is going on?" I signed to her.

"Let Maddie tell you" She got up and walked out, closing the door behind her.

The phone buzzed off in her hands as just stared at it.

"What's wrong Maddie" I looked at her concerned.

"My father got arrested" She smiled. "About time"

"What's wrong with your father? Why does this make you happy" I was taken back by how pleased she seemed by this news.

"He was a terrible person. He left when my mom left him, the happiest day of all our lives. He would drink more than I could ever see and he." She shivered a little. "He liked the color of bruises..."

Her dad was abusive and an alcoholic. Maddie had to grow up with a mom who left, a dad who ruined his life and then left, then had to be raised by her brothers.

"I'm so sorry Maddie" I hadn't realized that I had moved and grabbed her hand.

She was surprised at first but then smiled.

"It's ok Milo"

After breakfast Maddie asked is she could take a shower to get the gravel and dust out of her hair. I nodded and made my way to Amber's room.

"Am I'm coming in" I opened her door to see her curled up on her bed listening to music and crocheting.

Waving she smiled and clicked off the music and put the scarf aside.

"Can you help Maddie into the bathroom" I asked embarrassed to have to ask my sister to help.

"Sure" We both headed back to my room.

Maddie wasn't in the bed when we both arrived. The water was going in the bathroom and I sighed. Knocking on the door, I went inside. Maddie screamed almost tripping on the rug, still falling on the floor.

"I am so sorry Maddie!"

The shirt lifted up reveling her stomach, lined with scars and black-bluish bruises. Her legs also bruised and scared in places.

"M-milo" She had been crying.

I bent down, still looking apologetic.

"Maddie I really am sorry" I gently wiped a tear that had been trailing down her cheek. "Nobody will ever hurt you again"
