You will go on
I sit, alone, in my home. It was all paid for. I reach for the bottle of alcohol, at my right, and drink a swallow. The girlfriend I thought I had, had cheated on me. I didn't know it until she told me she was done, and she could do better. I'm clueless to how it had gone so wrong, but as I continued to drink I lost interest. I think of my baby sis and hope she had fared better. I pull out my pocket knife and stare at it. Maybe I was seeing things because it began talking.
"Wow, you're pathetic." it said. I set it on the table and look sideways at it. I'm alone, so I decide to humor it.
"What do you mean?" I ask, slurring words, from the alcohol.
"So your girl left you, big deal. You're crumbling because of a girl?" it snaps.
"Well, yah." I say, defending myself to a pocket knife.
"Well, thats pathetic, you don't think so?" it continues.
"I guess." I agree. It falls off the table, and I reach out to catch it. Unfortunately, I fall out of the chair and realize that I had fallen asleep. The pocket knife was still in my jeans. I throw the empty bottle away and go to bed.
...
At breakfast, I decide to have eggs. Only because they're easy to make. As I sit down to eat a dog barks irritably outside. I get up, hastily, and grab a beer from the fridge. I down half the bottle and, after a minute, don't notice the dog. When I finish my eggs someone knocks. I cross the living room and open the door. It was Sarah, my baby sis, at my house at seven in the morning.
"Hey." I say to her. "What do you need?"
"Can I come in?" she asks, avoiding my question. I step aside to let her in. Inside, she sits on the couch, and I plop down beside her.
"What is it?" I ask, again.
"Look, mom and dad kicked me out. I have nowhere to go, and I was just hoping I could stay with you for a while?" she says, tears falling down past her nose. I touch her hand, my heart breaking.
"Absolutely. Stay as long as you need." I assure her. She nods, hugging me. I notice she had brought nothing with her. "When?"
"Tomorrow, I get my stuff." she says.
"Alright, I have three guest rooms, and you're welcome to anyone of them." I say, standing up and leading her into the hallway.
"Where's your room?" she asks.
"Right here." I say. She nods towards the room next to mine.
"Is that a guest room?"
"Yes." I tell her as she walks inside. She sits on the bed and begins crying, again. I turn on the radio to some soft music. Then I sit down beside her, to comfort her.
