For Me

I hold my phone out struggling trying to call my dad. I held a grudge against him, but I decided to forget it. I just needed some space. Convinced, I tap his contact, having it automatically call him. He picks up, and I answer with a hi. He answers back.

"Sorry, for last time, I just needed space to wrap my head around everything." I admit. I hear him clear his throat through the phone. "How's Sierra?"

"Your sister's fine, Kale, why don't you meet me at the bar we agreed on?" he says.

"Alright." I say, walking down the hall. Sarah, my baby sis, wasn't here. She had gone out with some of her friends to a book club. I doubt she actually read anything though. I get in my car and drive to the bar we usually meet up in. I pull in a space, smoothly turning the engine off. I walk inside and my dad pulls me aside.

"Stand still." he whispers. What is happening? I stand against his side, and he nods at me. Nothing was happening, but then I saw her. I was instantly pulled into the words she was singing. My dad claps my shoulder. Her brown hair sticking to her face, and the Navy-blue dress that only came down to her knees swished and swayed as she moved around.

"I knew you'd like her. You're just like your old man." he laughs. I relax and hold my stomach.

"You scared me there, dad, I thought we were in danger." I say.

"No trouble, don't worry. Unless you count a woman as danger. Then yes, son, the bar would be on fire."

"Right, that's so funny." I shrug off his sarcasm. My heart stops and drops in my stomach as she walks towards me. I step back into the wall out of disbelief. She notices and fingers a circle into my chest. A chill runs down my spine and my breathing speeds up. I was mesmerized by her flowing hair. And the way she carried herself she had a bounce to her step. Well, she was singing. There came a pause in the song, and I took the chance to kiss her. I step in her space and lend my lips to hers. It wasn't quick, but it wasn't stretched out either. I pull back at just the right moment for her to continue singing without missing a beat. The rest of the song she held my gaze. I didn't smile or let down my walls for her. But I nodded to the beat and snapped my fingers to the rhythm. I didn't notice as Sierra walked in to sit close to our dad. When the song ended the woman who had taken my heart retreated to a back room. I let out a sigh and hear a deep chuckle beside me. I don't look at them as I make a beeline to the back room. I wasn't rude, I would knock first, but I had to see her again. I'm stopped by two security guards, and I inform them that I can wait. Well, I didn't have to wait long because she popped out from behind the curtain, to look at me. She shrugs the guards away, and I lead her to the bar.

"You're that boy that kissed me, aren't you?" she coots, looking in my eyes and giggling. I laugh, happily, for the first time in a very long time. Well, that's the way it felt, anyways. I nod. She touches my hand, and I immediately pull away. Her eyes widen expecting an explanation.

"I don't want you to do what you think you have to do for my attentions because you already interest me." I explain. Her eyes seem to twinkle like she was gaining a light back that was lost in her past as well. She sighs and touches my hand again.

"Well, aren't you sweet." she says, laughing. I didn't know what was so funny, but I ended up laughing too.

"Is it alright if I kissed you again?" I ask, cautiously. To answer my question she leans in and plants her lips on mine. This kiss was different because instead of it being unsatisfied without jerking us around it was like time had stopped. We were both so still. We just stood there swallowing the other person whole and stuffing as much as we could into our broken hearts. This memory would last for me, but I didn't know about her. Reluctantly, I pull away, to be polite.

"Wow, its been a while since I've kissed like that." she exclaims. A smile had been plastered on my face since the moment she had pushed past her security guards. I glance back at them, and they had their eyes trained on me. Finally, I was important.

"And why is that?" I ask.

"What?" she asks, absent-mindedly, like she was somewhere else. My heart deflates because I felt we had something.

"You want to go out sometime?" I ask.

"Why would I go out with you?" she asks, plainly. She twitches like she was expecting to get slapped for her opinion.

"Because you deserve a happy ending." I say as she tilts her head. She sucks in a breath and begins sobbing. Out of the corner of my eye her security guards step toward us, but she stops them with the wave of her hand.

"I do? Well, um, then who says it has to be with you? What makes you so special?" she asks. I notice that she had asked two questions this time indicating she was interested in what I would say next, but why wouldn't she be?

"No ones saying anything if this isn't what you need only you would know, but if you want to take a risk then take a leap of faith with me. I'm not asking you to open up and tear down all your walls. I'm only asking for a date. It doesn't have to mean anything, but it could." I say, carefully. She pushes her way into my arms as in a hug, soaking my shirt. I wrap my arms around her and give her the tightness she needs to feel like she's not alone.

"I'd love to." she says, making my current dreams come true.
