Part 4
Aman left New York for his father's business. That moment was particularly hard for Suman, Rudhra, and Aman.
Six years had passed, and the lives of the three friends had changed significantly. Initially, they stayed in touch, but as time went on, Aman completely drifted away from Suman and Rudra. Despite Suman's efforts to reconnect with him, Aman seemed to have vanished, like a bird disappearing into the vast sky.
"Wake up, Amu! It's 9 a.m., and breakfast is ready. Nisha has been waiting for you for an hour."
Aman, still half-asleep, mumbled, 'Please, Maa, go for God's sake. I didn't sleep at all last night because of work. And why on earth is she here so early at my place?
Aman's mother, while pulling back the curtain from the window, said, "I think you've forgotten—you promised Nisha you'd go with her to buy her wedding gown!"
Then Aman realized and woke up with a tinge of fear, exclaiming, 'Oh no! How could I forget? She's going to kill me now!"
Yeah, you and your work! Nisha is getting married in a few days, and if you can't make time for her, she'll be very upset, Amu. Now get up quickly and come down for breakfast!"
Yeah, yeah, I'm coming." Aman quickly woke up and went straight to the bathroom.
"While heading toward the dining room, he called his assistant and told him, "Cancel all the meetings for today. I have some work to take care of."
"But, Sir, I can cancel the other meetings, but there's one with the Japan client. It's important for your presence, and any delay could affect our deal."
"Oh, yes, yes, don't cancel that one. I'll arrange time for it. Just remind me before the meeting."
"Sure Sir"
Then Aman came downstairs, wearing a white t-shirt, a blue blazer, and denim jeans.
His mom and Nisha were both waiting for him. Nisha, in particular, was ready to smash his face in no time for being late."
"Then Nisha said mockingly, 'Why didn't you take another hour?'"
"Sorry, Nisha. I completely forgot about our plans because of work. But I promised you, so I canceled all the meetings just for you."
"Oh, stop it! Every time you say that, but then you end up working in the middle of it."
"No, Nisha, not this time." Of course, Aman was lying.
"Then why are you carrying this laptop?" Nisha asked suspiciously.
"This is... er... you know... in case an urgent meeting comes up..." Aman fumbled, trying to hide the real reason.
"I know you better than you know yourself"
"Okay, okay, first breakfast, then you two can fight," Aman's mother said, stopping them before they could start pulling each other's hair.
All three smiled and after breakfast Aman and Nisha headed to the boutique.
While Aman was driving, Nisha started the conversation.
"You know, Aman, for me, marriage is the most special thing in my life. I want every little detail to be checked by me."
"I know", Aman said with a smile.
"Hey, why don't you call your friend from India?" Nisha asked suddenly, and that Aman wasn't expecting.
Hearing that, Aman's breath stopped for a moment.
Then Nisha said, "Sumu, right?"
For a moment, Aman drifted into a memory lane, his one and only Sumu. Even after all this time, her name still echoed in his heart. He had always been afraid to give a name to that feeling. His heart and mind never in sync when it comes to such feeling.
"Aman, are you okay?" Nisha shook him, as if his mind had already wandered somewhere else.
"Yes, I don't know, Nisha, if they remember me or not! It's been such a long time, and I'm the one who drifted away from them. I changed my number and avoided them. Even if they remember me, they probably don't want to talk to me."
"No, they don't know what you've been through. If they did, they would definitely understand."
"I am not sure, if I'll ever be able to meet them. "
In the meantime, they reached the boutique. The boutique was called ASR Boutique. It looked very elegant and stylish. Despite being in New York, this boutique gave off a completely authentic Indian vibe.
"How did you find this place?", Aman asked Nisha, completely shocked.
"I am not like you who knows only meeting, client and all that bullshit. There is another world out here, have you ever realised?"
Aman just ruffled the back of his hair with embarrassment.
Then they both went inside, and the interior was completely different like stepping into an Indian royal world. They both gasped in awe.
Nisha then said, "I just realized why people love this place, even though it's only been open for a short time."
Then a girl approached them and welcomed both of them. Nisha mentioned her appointment, and the girl guided them inside the shop.
Nisha was trying on several lehengas, and she looked beautiful in almost every one of them. In the midst of this, Aman received a call from his assistant about the meeting which he discussed this morning. He excused himself from Nisha and, with the help of the shop assistant, found a vacant room for his meeting.
After the meeting ended, as Aman was about to leave, he noticed a beautiful woman through a small gap in the door of another room. She was placing some drawings on the table, and a strand of her hair was flowing in the air. She was wearing a salwar kameez. His heart raced, as if he knew her, and without thinking, he opened the door. She instinctively shifted her gaze toward him and looked at him questioningly.
Without a second thought he exclaimed, "Sumu!"
"Excuse me!" She felt a little shocked, as no one called her Sumu other than her family and him... Then, she realized and asked, "How do you know my name, and what are you doing here?"
A tear slipped from Aman's eye, and his heart felt heavy. He never expected to see her like this. She hadn't changed a bit same eyes, same nose, same lips everything was the same, but she had become even more beautiful.
Then she called out to him again, "Excuse me, sir. If you're here for shopping, I think you've come to the wrong place. Let me guide you."
Aman was filled with mixed emotions, he was laughing and smiling at the same time. Then, he went over and hugged her tightly, saying, "Sumu, I've missed you so much."
Then Suman said, "Amu?" with doubt in her voice.
Aman didn't say anything; he just shook his head from side to side, his eyes filled with tears, and his throat stuck in disbelief.
Then Suman hugged him back with excitement. She was also crying, saying at the same time, "Why did you leave us, Amu? I missed you so much. When I needed you the most, you weren't there. I needed my friend. I always waited for your call, but it never came. And I'm still waiting."
"I'm so sorry, Sumu. Now that I've found you, I won't leave you alone."
Sumu was about to say something but Nisha appeared and called out to Aman, confused to see them both like this.
