Chapter 35

"You look amazing." Chelsea whispered proudly to her son, who was dressed in a grass skirt bleached white and trimmed with warm-colored flowers.

Cupid genuinely smiled at his mother and for once, didn't reference his blindness. "Thanks." He said and sighed. "I'm nervous. What if I do something wrong?"

"You'll be fine." The fairy's father assured him. He paused. "Cupid..."

"Yes, I'm listening."

"We love you. Also, especially after you're married, don't get kidnapped and go on adventures without telling us first."

Cupid nodded dramatically. "Okay, I'll ask you if it's a good time to get kidnapped before I go next time. But you have to go. The wed- My wedding is going to start." He waved them away with his hands. "Love you." The fairy was left with the Chief on the Kissing Rock, a flat stone in the middle of the bay.

Wedding Cove, named for the hundreds of marriages that had taken place there, was the perfect location. The cove was large enough for all of the guests to see the Kissing Rock, a flat stone where the actual ceremony was held, and the palm leaf path Crystal would walk.

Cupid smiled as the crowd began to cheer. His soon-to-be wife had arrived. As Crystal slowly strode toward the water, Cupid recalled her appearance from the rehearsal. She was wearing a short dress of white feathers with a ring of flowers across her hips. Selene had also braided a bloom into her hair and as usual, both fairies were barefoot.

Rather than flying to Kissing Rock, Erses had offered to ferry Crystal across the water. She sat like a queen on his shoulder to keep her dress dry. When they arrived, Cupid could feel the excitement in her touch before they said a word. Erses teleported back to the cove to watch as Cupid led Crystal to the center of the rock platform.

Cupid forced himself not to turn. The Chief was ripping a long leaf symbolically in half, but the magic hovering in the corner of his vision was very distracting. The Chief tied one half around Crystal's and Cupid's left wrist and poured water over their connected hands, which was also symbolic.

In his other hand, Cupid held a flower crown, which he magically placed on Crystal's head. Crystal discreetly squeezed his hand when he could set it down, and gave the fairy his floral wreath. The Chief held out a large blanket. Though the sheet was typically crafted by a grandparent, Cupid's blonde aunt had made it because neither he nor Crystal had grandparents. Each of the four corners slowly rose as the bride's and groom's parents twisted it around their children.

Wrapped symbolically in love, warmth, and acceptance, it was time for the part of a wedding everyone waits for: Crystal and Cupid kissed.
