Chapter-5
It was Friday morning today, I got up early and was thankfully ready in time for school.
I finally got a text from Asher last night which said that he won't be able to pick me and Debbie today so, my dad dropped me at the school gate where I found Debbie already waiting for me.
She looked a bit unsettled as she was walking up to me.
"Hey, need to tell you something..." she grabbed my arm and took me in the direction of the parking lot from the front gate.
"What is it?" I raised my eyebrow.
Now we had entered the school building and were in the hallway. We stopped a little farther from Asher's locker and were standing in such a way, behind some people that he couldn't see us.
Debbie faced towards me and her eyes pointed towards Asher's locker.
"Look." she whispered.
I couldn't find him, as there were a lot of people in the hallway but I stood on my toes to get a quick peek.
I found a blonde, slender girl with a 'v-shaped' face and brown eyes. It was, Aubrey, the popular bitch that everyone would've had in their school at some point. She was known for ruining anyone's social status in seconds.
She was standing near Asher's locker, talking with him and smiling. Not to mention, she was being real touchy with him.
"Did you see that?" Debbie raised her eyebrows and made a cringey face.
"Yeah, but what is she doing with him? She has never even noticed Asher for once and now look at them." I narrowed my eyes and shook my head slightly from one side to another.
"I know right!" Debbie's forehead creased. "I dug up something important that is related to all this mess," she continued. "I'll tell you about it at lunch." she finished.
The whole day went by in a blur, I was only thinking about what I saw in the morning and what Debbie had to tell me about this 'mess'. More importantly, why did she use the word 'mess'.
A lot of strange things are happening these days, first I got invited to a party by a guy I barely know, then my friend Asher started acting all strange and now Debbie has to tell me something about this 'mess'.
I got over with my classes and headed to exit the room, Debbie was already standing outside of my class, waiting for me.
"Let's go to the parking area, we don't want others to listen." she wore a poker face as she commanded.
We both went to the parking area, she started as we continued to walk aimlessly,
"You know, Liam, right?"
"Of course, Debs, you know that!" I replied impatiently.
"Then, what do you know about him; I mean what do you know about his personality and personal life?" she shot a question at me.
"Well...uh-" I paused because I didn't know a thing about that guy. I just knew how he looked and that's about it.
"Exactly, so listen..." she began.
"He's not much of a talker, but hangs out with the popular group of our school. Why?"
She answered the question herself, "because his mom is crazy rich and that's why everyone wants to befriend him."
She continued in a low voice, "Aubrey and him were somewhat close, not in a relationship but I guess they were seeing each other."
"And?" I asked impatiently.
"I'm coming to that....So, Aubrey being the person she is, kind of started to see some other guy a few months back."
"Oh, let me guess. Liam found out about it?" I asked, almost certain that I was right.
"Duh! But, it's not the end yet. She wants to get back with Liam because his mom is one of the major investors in her dad's company."
"So, what is she doing with Asher now?" I asked. If she wanted to get back together with Liam, she should hang out with him not with Asher.
"Now, this is when it gets really messy. She wants to get together with Liam again but you are in her way and I don't know why she's with Asher, maybe to make Liam jealous." she shrugged.
"Well, that is really stupid of her." I rolled my eyes.
"Whatever it is, I think we shouldn't go to the party or she'll ruin our lives too." her voice was thick with fear.
"Oh, Debbie, there is nothing to worry about." I tried to assure her.
"But really she is coming between our friendship with Asher and now she is plotting to get me out of the way? Really?" I continued.
Debbie nodded.
"By the way, how did you get to know so much about all this?" I asked her.
"Well, intense stalking and talking." the corners of her mouth turned up.
"Ah, I see."
"Well...would you go?" she asked.
"Where?"
"To the party dumbo!"
"I will! I'm not scared of her! If she wants to play, she can, but by my rules." I said confidently.
There are people like her everywhere, we shouldn't be scared of them because they're not capable of doing shit to us unless and until we give them power to.
"It's up to you, but as a good friend it's my duty to prevent you from doing crazy shit like this. So, I say we shouldn't go."
"Come on, what will she do? Bite us? Don't be so scared, besides you're not the one she dislikes." I reminded her.
"I know... but-"
"No if and buts, I'm going; You can join me if you want to." I interrupted her before she could finish.
"Okay, then."
"You coming?"
"I don't know, we'll see about that... I'll message you the answer before five." she replied.
"Okay."
After having a conversation for about the entire lunch break, we headed back to our classes.
Nothing really happened after that, Asher neither talked to me nor with Debbie; he was busy with his "girlfriend" or "date" or whatever Aubrey was to him. My ride home today was with Debbie and her driver.
The only thing I was looking forward to, was the party because these two days had been really stressful. I really needed a break from all the anxiety and overthinking.
I reached home at three thirty and I already made up my mind to go to the party; with or without Debbie. I mean, she might be scared of Aubrey but I'm not, she's just a typical bully, who I could care less about.
It was a Friday night and I didn't want to ruin it for myself.
