Chapter-13
Katelyn's POV
I saved Ryder's number and I was about to call him when his name flashed on my phone, he was calling me. I smiled to myself, I was a bit nervous. I mean I was a lot nervous.
But, I thought that it would be fine. I took a deep breath and answered the phone.
"Hi!" My voice sounded enthusiastic. Was the enthusiasm too much? Ugh! I should stop overthinking.
"Hey, Ryder this side!" he sounded pretty happy and normal which helped me ease a little.
"How's it going?" I asked. I didn't bring up "that" night because it would be awkward for one and for two, this is something that shouldn't be discussed over phone.
"It's going fine. What about you?"
"It's better!" I smiled.
"So...I was wondering if we could get a coffee together at Starbucks?" he asked really casually.
"Uh- sure." Should I ask him if it's a date? I should. Or else I'll overthink about it and probably end up not going or messing things up later.
"Like for a date or just like two friends, hanging out?" I asked and instantly regretted it. I mean what if he didn't ask me on a date? I would probably weird him out if that wouldn't be the case. Ugh, I hate myself!
"After that night I suppose we could never be "just friends", so a date it is!"
Oh God! My heart was thudding in my chest. OH MY GOD. Okay I should calm down.
"Oh okay" I chuckled.
"Great! I'll see you at six thirty in the evening, then!"
"Yeah, okay!" I smiled.
After this, we exchanged our goodbyes and hung up the phone. I'm going on a date at six thirty. I mean it surprises me so much. I can't believe how fast things are moving this week for me. I mean, I lost two of my friends, made some new friends and now here I was going on a date today. Things are moving pretty fast.
Wait, Ryder called me! He obviously got my number from Claire and she must've told Nicole by now. So, if I don't tell them about the date they would think that I'm keeping stuff from them. They should know, I guess.
With this thought I added Claire and Nicole on a conference call with me. They were quick to pick up.
"Hi you guys!" I exclaimed.
"Well, hello." Claire replied.
"Hi!" Nicole said.
"Guys, I have to tell you something.." I begun
"Go ahead then" Claire encouraged.
"Well, Ryder just asked me out." I smiled.
"I'm so happy for you guys! Although I already knew something was up." I could imagine Claire smirking right now. Nicole was laughing on the other hand.
"Should we come over to help you get ready? You can tell us about how it started and where you think it's headed." As Nicole spoke, excitement was evident in her voice.
"Sure, I would really need someone to help me out with my outfit and give me pep talks!" I chuckled.
"Great! We'll be there in half an hour then!" Claire squealed.
"Okay, see you guys later then." I said.
"Yeah, see ya later!" Nicole replied and I hung up the phone.
After talking to them I went to the living room downstairs to inform everyone at my home.
I found grandma and grandpa sitting on the couch and watching television.
"Grandma! Grandpa! I beamed.
"Katie! Come sit." Grandpa gestured towards the empty space.
"Well, I'm going on a date today." I looked down as I said. Hoping they wouldn't freak out. I knew that they wouldn't, but still. This was the first time I was actually "dating".
"Oh, well." Grandpa and grandma exchanged smiles.
"What, why are you guys smiling?"
"Ah, I just remembered something about our good old days." Grandma smiled.
"What is it?" I was excited to know.
"Well, your grandpa had to ask my parent's permission to ask me out." Grandma started.
"And I was freaking out, seriously. Her dad was really protective of her, she was the only daughter." Grandpa added.
"So, James, your grandpa called me like fifty times to ask me what he should wear, would my dad like him and all that stuff. He was very nervous and scared." Grandma smiled.
"Bullshit, I wasn't scared, I was just nervous." Grandpa made a face.
"Whatever James." she laughed.
These two looked so in love, even after forty-nine years of their marriage. I wish it was possible to love someone like this these days.
"So, tell us something about him." Grandma interrupted me from that thought.
"Oh, he's well.." I paused. What should I say? I don't know him that well. But there's one thing I know about him for sure, I continued "Well, he's a really nice person and a gentleman for sure." I smiled.
"Well, okay, if this date goes well, we would like to meet the young man." Grandma smiled.
"So, is it okay with you guys if I go out with him?" I looked at them for permission.
"As long as he brings you home by nine, we're okay with it." Grandpa said and grandma nodded.
"But, be careful. I know he's a gentleman and all but we haven't met him yet." Grandpa added.
"Yeah, if this date goes well, invite him to dinner after your graduation. That is on Monday evening." Grandma suggested.
"Okay, done!" I replied.
"Um.. can you both tell dad about this?" I asked.
"Yeah, we will but we prefer you telling him." Grandma said.
"But you know that he would completely lose it."
"I know honey but, you didn't tell him about you changing your course in college too. We were the ones who told that to him." Grandma complained.
"Please do this once." I begged.
"Okay, fine we'll tell him. But you'll have to talk to him about it personally as well." Grandpa said.
"You both are the best, love you!" I embraced them in a hug.
Thank God that they will tell dad about the date. I know the time I told him about changing my course, he was so upset and disappointed after knowing that. He literally tried to manipulate me to change it back to the older one which he liked. I mean telling him about deep stuff like this is really difficult.
