Roaches skitter across the dusty wood floor. Spiders make beautiful webs in the dark corners of the abandoned rooms, their legs working furiously. Flies lay their eggs on rotting pieces of fruit and other foods, mold growing on every inch of their surfaces.

A wheezy breath can be heard in the other room. It hobbles out of the den and into the kitchen, shooing away the rats and other critters hiding in the many holes of the old house. It stands and watches as the spiders work on their webs.

Letting out another wheeze, it settled on the small wooden chair accompanying the small wooden table that matches it.

A bright streak of silver moonlight peaks out of the window, landing on the dark skin of it. It shrieks in terror, rushing to the curtains to conceal the moonlight. The place it had been touched with the light had started to sizzle, causing a putrid smell to fill the small kitchen.

Its skin begins to heal, closing the small hole that had started to form. It lets out a wheezy sigh, sitting back down. It closes its many eyes, its pairs of arms folded against its body.

It was so tired.

So exhausted.

So.....

Hungry.

Just as fast as the jolt of hunger came, it pounced on a rat that searched for food in the cupboard, blind to its horrible fate. It crunched on the tiny bones of the animal, finishing it in a few bites.

It needed something more. It let out a growl of annoyance. If only it could go out into the open without being burned. If only it could get its hands on a human.

It had been so long since it had tasted the warm flesh of a human.

Then, once it finally had human meat in its system, it could go out on its own into night. It just needed one teeny tiny human.

It scraped its nails on the wooden table in agitation at the thought of waiting. Letting out another sigh, it forms into the rat it had eaten minutes before.

Maybe it could catch a human like this.

It just had to wait until dawn.
