|Chapter 3|

"Why do we all have to go drive?" Luke whined as he was buckled into his car seat. Percy and Annabeth shared a glance.

"It's safer this way, buddy," Annabeth told her son, ruffling his blond hair. His sea-green eyes stared back at her with such poutiness that she laughed and got into the passenger seat next to Percy.

The entire Jackson family was going for the hour car ride to Long Island Sound to accompany Zoe to Camp Half-Blood. Zoe, squished in between Silena and Luke, stayed silent with her arms crossed, refusing to speak with her parents. While Percy and Annabeth sang along to the car radio, and Silena and Luke played travel bingo, Zoe stared out the car window languishing that the highway was not an ocean that she could jump into and swim away.

Finally, they arrived at the bottom of a hill. A sign read DELPHI STRAWBERRY SERVICE.

"Dad, Mom, this place feels weird," Silena muttered. Percy and Annabeth glanced at each other.

"You'll come here when you're old enough. You can embrace all the weirdness you want then, okay?"

"Okay, sure." The Jacksons parked the car and walked up the hill. A man in a wheelchair was waiting for them at the top. A thick grove of trees blocked Zoe's view of what must be the camp.

"Welcome, Zoe," he said warmly. He had a lush brown beard tinged with grey and twinkling eyes. He was wearing "My name is Chiron." Percy and Annabeth walked forward and hugged the man.

"Good to see you, Chiron," her mom said. Chiron grinned.

"Good to see you too, Annabeth and Percy. You must be Zoe, Silena, and Luke!" he said cheerfully. "Zoe, you must be so excited to go to camp."

Percy shot Chiron a look that Zoe didn't understand the meaning of. However, it seemed that Chiron did. His eyes widened, and then narrowed in anger.

"Perseus Jackson. Annabeth Jackson. Don't tell me..."

"It was for safety reasons," Zoe's dad explained. Chiron blew out a breath.

"She doesn't know?"

"Know what?" Zoe butted in. Chiron looked at her.

"I think it's time you say goodbye to your family so I can...introduce you properly to Camp Half-Blood," Chiron said mysteriously.

Zoe went over to Luke and hugged him tight. "I'll miss you Zoe," he blubbered, starting to cry. Silena gave her sister a gentle hug, her eyes gleaming knowingly. "I think you'll have a fun time at camp this summer," she said with a smile.

Finally, Zoe hugged her mom and dad. "Bye, Mom. Bye, Dad." Annabeth and Percy embraced their eldest daughter and tried to fight back their tears.

"Bye Zoe! Be safe!" Annabeth and Percy called after her as she followed Chiron into the woods, ready to face just about anything Camp Half-Blood could throw at her.
