ONE, are we still friends?
1918
Olivia Alicent Shelby wanted revenge. No she craved it, she needed to get her revenge.
She wanted to make her dad pay for what he did.
She needed to make him pay.
Her mum didn't deserve that.
She didn't deserve to die like that.
After the war her dad wasn't the same but she knew that would happen, her mum warned her. What Olivia didn't expect was for her dad to drive her and her mum away. They ended up in a little flat where Polly and Ada visited every single day, Tommy even visited some times but didn't stay long. The two were never officially divorced or even broken up, they loved each other too much to fully and officially call it quits.
Alicent Elizabeth Meadows-Shelby died four months after the war ended. She died of accidental alcohol poisoning, Tommy Shelby found his wife dead after he showed up to see his daughter and take her to school. He found it weird that neither Ali or Livvy were awake since it was half past seven so he went to check and that's where he found his wife's lifeless body. Luckily, Olivia was still asleep and he made out like Ali was having a sleep in although the girl was thirteen and she knew when her dad was lying but she didn't want to believe that he was lying so she went to school that day and pretended as if everything was normal. When she met her uncle John at the gates of the school she knew something wasn't right. John one ever picked her up if Polly, Ali or Tommy were busy or if there was an emergency. The walk back was silent John not wanting to tell his niece that her mum was dead and Liv not wanting to ask because she was scared of the reply.
Tommy broke the news to his daughter that her mum wasn't coming back and that she would be buried within the next week.
The Shelby's stood in all black, Tommy avoiding his daughter's piercing gaze from her place next to Arthur. He knew she hated him. He knew she blamed him and he was willing to take the blame if it meant she would talk to him, even if it was to insult him.
Olivia leant further into Arthur's side as the priest went on, Tommy looking down.
Tommy stepped forward clearing his throat. "I promised my wife thirteen years ago that I'd protect her and our daughter and that if she passed before me that I'd say a few words at her funeral but I can't do that. I didn't know her well enough so Olivia," he motioned for her to walk over and take over.
The brunette walked reluctantly walking over, her voice wavering as she began, "I didn't think I'd have to speak so I didn't prepare anything."
"As all of you know my mum is, sorry, was one of the best people, um she is- was my best friend. She was one of the most forgiving people," her eyes flittered over to Tommy who refused to look up from the ground.
"Not only that but she was also had one of the purest hearts and I'm glad to have been able to call her my mum for the fourteen years I knew her. All of my memories are of us in our little flat, sometimes dad would come visit but he couldn't stay long. The earliest memory I have of all three of us was when I was three and I really wanted to go to the cut but dad said no so mum stood there and pouting with me until he gave in and we went to the cut where I ended falling over and scraping all my knee, hands and even my forehead so we had to go home early where dad gave me biscuits which mum told him off for because she was making tea. I've actually got a scar to prove it." Tommy smiled slightly at the memory, he didn't think Olivia remembered it.
"She also tried to teach me how to knit but I didn't have the attention span so while she knitted I would be sleeping in her lap."
"I'm going to miss her waking me up every morning by ripping the covers off my and laying next to me. I'm going to miss the arguing over who loved each other most, she always won because she was stubborn and I always knew that she loved me more than anything. But what I'm going to miss most of all is my best friend." Tears were now streaming down Liv's face which made Ada step in and finish what to say, the girl thankful for her aunt who squeezed her hand.
"Both Livvy and Tommy would like to thank everyone for coming today I know it would have meant a lot to her to see you all here for her. She will never be replaced or forgotten and she will live on forever. And Ali because I know you're listening, don't laugh at Liv for her sappiness," Ada smiled at the teen.
There was then a moment of silence then the priest finished the service and then everyone went their separate ways. Ada refusing to leave Liv's side.
"Thank you," Liv said into Ada's neck as she hugged her aunt.

Liv wanted to go home. She wanted to wake up from the nightmare except it wasn't a nightmare and it was very much real. Her mum was dead and it was her dad's fault. The Shelby's sat in the snug sharing their favourite memories of Alicent.
After everyone had shared theirs they looked at Liv who was more focused on planning her escape rather than focusing on the reality. She cleared her throat before announcing, "I'll be back, just going to the toilet."
She indeed did not go back instead she ran out of the Garrison, passing a brunette who looked like she had just finished work with a nurses uniform on just like her mum used to wear to work, with the uneasy feeling in her stomach. The feeling she got when she was about to be sick. A hand made its way on her hair, holding it back and the other rubbing her back as she began to heave.
"I'm sorry," Tommy uttered, his voice quiet.
"Whatever," Liv rolled her eyes and wiped her mouth. "I hate you."
"I know," he nodded. "I hate me too."
"Why did you push us away dad?" she asked her voice cracking.
"I didn't want to hurt you, you deserved better than me after the war," he replied. "I wasn't the same and I didn't know how to go back so I pushed the only two people that could keep me grounded away." Liv stared at her dad, her gaze softening slightly before turning harsh again.
"You hurt her more than any alcohol and drug ever did," Liv muttered. "You were her drug, she got addicted and she couldn't get clean and now she's dead."
"I know and I'm so-"
Olivia left her dad standing outside the Garrison before he could even finish his sentence. Tommy didn't attempt to stop her and let her walk back to her apartment.
When Arthur came to check on his niece per Tommy's request, the man saw her slumped against the wall, head in her hands, pieces of glass, plates and bowls everywhere. The crunching of the glass made his presence apparent, Liv ignoring it until the man moved some of the glass beside her to sit down.
"She's really gone," she whispered in a hoarse, broken voice.
"I know," Arthur nodded sympathetically, wrapping his arm around her and pulling her into his side.
There was a deafening silence as Tommy entered the flat. Liv looking up at him. "I'm not moving back in with you," she shook her head.
"You don't have a choice," he argued.
"You made the choice of driving us away now I'm staying away before I end up like my mum," Liv's words hurt herself to say and they hurt Tommy more than he would ever let on.
"You're thirteen," Tommy reminded her. "You can't live here by yourself."
"I'll move in with aunt Pol. I'm not living with you," she argued, standing up and walking towards her bedroom. "I refuse to live with the devil. It's bad enough he's my dad." Olivia slammed her bedroom door, Arthur looking to his brother with a knowing look in his eye.
"I don't want to tell you I told you so brother but I'm telling you that I told you so," he said as he looked to his niece's bedroom.
"Shut up Arthur," Tommy told him as he walked up to Olivia's door and opened it. "You have two choices. One you pack your stuff and live with me or you pack your stuff and live with Polly either way you've got twenty minutes to pack and make a decision."
"How many times, I'm not going to live with you," she grumbled making her way to open her drawers and begin packing.
"Fine. Arthur will walk you to Polly's but hurry up I've got places to be," he told her harshly making her stop dead.
"You just buried your wife and you have places to be? Do you know how much of a twat you sound?" Liv asked with an icy tone and an icy glare to match.
Tommy ignored her and walked away leaving the girl glaring at the doorway where he was just was and Arthur helping her pack.
"Before you start with the whole "he loves you he doesn't mean it," bullshit just don't," the brunette shook her head throwing her clothes into the suitcase.

It had been over a year since Ali died and Liv stopped speaking to Tommy. Sure she spoke to him in passing with a little "Hi," or whatever was going on in the shop but she didn't go out of her way to make conversation with him.
"Liv," Polly called again from the bottom of the stairs.
"What?" she grumbled back.
"Your dad's here. He wants to see you," Polly replied and retreated back to the kitchen. With an eye roll she made her way down the stairs and into the living room where her dad sat.
"Why aren't you at school?" he questioned.
"Teachers ill, is that all?"
"No. I need you to go help John at the shop while I go sort some business."
"What's the business? Messing with the chinese?" Liv asked with a sly smirk. "You know how Arthur feels about the chinese."
"Well Arthur's not the boss," Tommy's reply was muffled as he put a cigarette in his mouth and lit it.
"He's the eldest," she remarked crossing her arms over her chest.
"I'm the brains."
"You don't have a brain and I'm out of this conversation now you're boring me," she muttered and began tying her laces.
Tommy let out a sigh when the door shut, Polly coming into sight, "That seemed to go well. She said more than two words to you."
"I'm never going to get her back am I?" he asked and his aunt shrugged sitting next to him.
"Give her more time, Tommy. She's still only fourteen and she misses her mum. You of all people should know what that's like."
The shop was loud, Liv having to literally move men out of the way to get to her uncle. "Liv!" he smiled.
"What do you want help with?" she asked.
"Get the chalk and help me write the bets down," he told her passing her the other chalk. "Have you spoken to your dad?"
"Don't tell Arthur but dad's going to get the chinese witch to put a spell on Monaghan boy so he wins the race," she whispered.
John turned to look at her, "What? He told you that?"
"Pretty much. I heard whispers from lads at school that he was messing with the chinese so it didn't take a lot to figure that bit out," she shrugged.
"You're smarter than you make out," John said more to himself than his niece.
"I know," she nodded. "If I make out I'm smart people will expect me to know everything and I can be used as a weapon against you lot so I figured if I act stupid it'll either get me beaten to death so I can be with my mum quicker or people will just leave me alone." When she spoke about her mum John noticed the sad look that flashed in her eyes but didn't comment on it. "Do you miss your mum?" she asked. "I know my mum was close with her."
"Yeah," he nodded. "Everyday."
"Does it hurt less? To think about her I mean," she asked watching as he uncle stopped to think.
"It never stops hurting but it doesn't hurt as bad anymore," he went on his eyes turning to his older brothers. "Tommy's here."
"Brilliant," the girl rolled her eyes, ignoring her dad's gaze. She heard his footsteps getting closer and closer, his arm reaching out to grab her wrist so she couldn't walk away. "Get off."
"Liv-"
"No," she shook her head. "Leave me alone."
"Tom, let her go," John told him placing his hand on his brother's shoulder to let Liv get a head start before Tommy went after her.

Liv found herself at the cut, not realising Finn had followed her and sat beside her on the grass. "Are you going to be mad at Tom forever?" he asked the brunette.
"I don't know, Finny. I don't know," she shrugged.
"I don't even remember my mum," Finn muttered and Liv's heart sank.
"She was pretty, really pretty. She was nice too she looked after my mum when she was younger," Liv told him, she couldn't even imagine what it would be like not knowing her mum. "She-"
The girl was cut off by someone clearing their throat, not daring to look back she knew it was Tommy and she knew Finn would be in trouble for following her without anyone knowing. "Don't get mad at him, be mad at me I told him not to tell you because I didn't want to you follow me but clearly you already knew where I was going."
"Finn, go home," Tommy told him, the boy looking to Liv who nodded slightly.
"Will you be okay?" he whispered in her ear.
"I'll be fine," she told him with a small smile and so he went on his way.
"You're not supposed to leave without telling someone," Tommy told her.
"And you're supposed to be my dad but instead you're a murderer so I guess we both do things we're not supposed to," she quipped back. "Oh look I really am my father's daughter. Let's just hope that whoever I decide to marry in the future doesn't end up like you and I don't end up like my mum. You still remember her right or have you forgotten all about her now you fancy that barmaid or what about the nurse last year who pops up the Garrison every now in then? Wasn't she a nurse at war? Isn't that how she knows you?"
"Olivia," he scolded.
"I don't want to know you anymore, okay? My mum is dead, you don't care and the only people that actually care about me are a fucking ten year old who wants me to forgive you, Aunt Pol who believes I should forgive you and Ada who is on my side because she misses her best friend too much to not forgive you."
"I'm not asking for you to forgive me. All I'm asking is for you to speak me. Let me know you again," he cleared his throat.
"What's the point? I'm only going to hurt you like you hurt me. I'm going to take the one person that you love more than anything and I'm going to destroy that person so you know what it feels like to be pushed to the side and forgotten about until it's too late," she told him before walking away once again leaving him by the cut to let her words sink in.
