Porta-Potty Goddess
I have some ideas of little one shots between Dia and Jason before they were kidnapped. They will probably only be between 500-1,000 words at most just to strengthen their dynamic and make their sibling relationship not feel so out of the blue. Let me know if you want me to post them and if so how. The options are as follows: put them at the end/beginning of each chapter, keep them to yourself, or make them their own chapters. They are not important to the plot of the book and will not need to be read, but it will provide for insight to inside jokes ect.
Plummeting to my death wasn't necessarily the way I planned on waking up the next morning but the wind whipped my face regardless. I tried to scream but I had no words when I felt a warm body slam into me. I tightly grabbed onto Leo's waist before gripping Jason's outstretched hand.
"My dragon!" Leo struggled against Jason's arms and held me tighter in comfort. "You gotta save Festus!"
Leo sobbed as the metal mass hit the ground hard. I rubbed his back as we skidded in the air, slowing down for a moment before continuing the freefall. I reached out my arms into the clouds, collecting the water I could and held it in my hands in instinct.
I noticed Jason straining and gently manipulated the water onto his forehead and as it glowed he regained some of his strength.
Overall it wasn't enough and Jason groaned out "I can't" before we fell at full speed. My eyes glowed green as I hit the celling of a warehouse, breaking through. Leo broke from my grasp and I reached out for him in concern.
I hit the ground with a thud and laid there for a moment. There was ringing in my ears and I held my forehead.
I tried to open my eyes but the light was blinding and I had to close them in pain. I had a concussion.
"Piper! Where's Piper?" I heard echo through the building. I held my head in pain at the loud noise, wishing for it to go away.
"Ow, bro!" Leo groaned. "That's my back! I'm not a sofa! Piper, where'd you go?"
I felt a hand on my back as Leo spoke. I opened my eyes only to see him looking in concern at my pained expression. I sighed and rested my head on his shoulder once I was up.
"Mi tesoro?" Worry laced its self in his tone.
"What does that one mean?" I said, hoping for a distraction.
"It means my treasure," he took the bait with a large blush on his face. Maybe he likes me back after all. "Since you're technically the princess of the ocean that nickname lost its flare. I need a new one. And I was thinking kinda like, ocean treasure?"
I laughed slightly, grabbing onto my head at the pain it brought. He gently grabbed onto my wrist and our eyes locked as he searched them for a way to help.
"I would keep searching Valdez," I teased.
"What's going on?" he questioned the pain.
"Just a concussion. It'll be better with water."
"Whatever you say," he warily lead me over to Piper with an arm over my shoulders, noticing the glare Jason sent his way when he noticed the gesture.
"You okay... ?" Leo questioned. "Oh no, you're not."
"Thanks for the reassurance," Piper let out noises of pain when she replied.
"You'll be fine," Jason said. I almost would have believed it if he didn't sound like the world was going to explode. "Leo, you got any first aid supplies?"
"Yeah-yeah, sure."
Leo pulled out a few items and I grabbed them. The gauze was coarse in my hand; holding it felt right. Like I was meant to.
"Thanks," I replied, grabbing them and inspecting her foot.
I could tell there were fractures in 7 different places. I took some water, placing it over the place of injury and feeling each individual crack with my healing abilities.
"How did you—" I noticed Piper try to sit up and I gently pushed her back down. "How did pull that stuff from an empty belt?"
"Magic," Leo waved his hands in wonder with a goofy smirk and I had to look down to hide my look of adoration. "Haven't figure it out completely, but I can summon just about any regular tool out of the pockets, plus some other helpful stuff. Breath mint?"
"That's great, Leo," Jason grabbed the mints and I snickered at the thought of him using them to kiss Piper. "Now, can you fix her foot?"
"She has 4 fractures," I interjected. "I can start the healing process but with only the water in the air and a few bottles I can only do so much. I think I can make her a cast out of the duck tape and gauze, but it won't be perfect. Is there anything else you can get out of your belt?"
"I'm a mechanic, man. Maybe if she was a car..." Leo stopped before coming to a realization. "Wait, what was that godly healing stuff they fed you at camp—Rambo food?"
"Ambrosia, dummy," Piper said through gritted teeth. "There should be some in my bag, if it's not crushed."
Jason grabbed the backpack, rummaging through it and putting out the soft pastries. He fed her a small piece and she reached out for another.
"More," Piper pleaded.
"Piper, we shouldn't risk it," Jason stressed. "They said too much could burn you up. I think Dia should try to set your foot."
"Have you ever done that before?" Piper questioned.
"I'm able to hold my own in a fight, but I'm not very good," I said carefully. My headache worsened as I attempted to remember but it was useful in the long run. "You saw the way Dylan threw me off the bridge at the canyon. I think, wherever I was, I used to be more of a healer."
"Ok...I trust you."
Piper grabbed onto Jason's hand, Leo giving me a broken piece of wood to use as a splint.
The most concerning was a talar neck fracture. the rest only needed ice and lack of pressure, something difficult to come by as a demigod on a quest.
Piper punched Leo in pain and I worked quickly as if I had been doing this my whole life. I think I have. I gave her water to help slow breathing and mentally evaluated important foods she would need to speed up the healing process.
She groaned loudly in pain and breathed deeply to try and subdue the pain.
"Jeez, beauty queen!" Leo rubbed his arm and I felt a slight surge of jealously at the nickname, quickly pushing it away due the the platonic relationship. "Glad my face wasn't there."
"Sorry," she said. "And don't call me 'beauty queen,' or I'll punch you again."
I snorted as her words and turned away as fast as I could to hide my smile. It wasn't missed by Leo though who gasped dramatically at my betrayal.
"Dia," he whined, "You're supposed to be on my side. It's not funny. I could get seriously hurt."
Looking at him proved to be a mistake as he jutted his bottom lip out in a pout and gave me the eyes. I found myself blushing and with a huff walked away, ignoring his pleas to come back.
"You both did great," Jason said from behind be as I walked to the doors. I decided to look outside and survey the surroundings for anything helpful.
I noticed the snow and suddenly realized how cold it was, the adrenaline wearing off. There was nothing but buildings nearby and I realized there would be no hunting for food in attempts to save the amount we currently had without paying.
Letting out a puff of air I turned around, allowing the white puff hit me in the face as I walked. I could once again hear them speaking and I added in.
"We're in a city and the snow is coming down pretty heavy, so I'm guessing we didn't travel far."
"Closed car plant," Leo deduced. "I'm guessing we crash-landed in Detroit."
"How far is that from Chicago?" Piper chimed in.
"Maybe three-fourths of the way from Quebec?" Jason passed around a water canteen and as soon as I drank I felt the concussion leave. "The thing is, without the dragon, we're stuck traveling overland."
"No way," Leo said. "It isn't safe."
"We'll figure out something," I consoled. "Besides, we're in a car shop. You can look for any parts you don't have here. I can help."
Leo smiled at me gratefully before Piper interjected.
"They're right," she then let out a sigh. "Besides, I don't know if I can walk. And three people—Jason, you can't fly that many across country by yourself."
"No way," Jason said. "Leo, are you sure the dragon didn't malfunction? I mean, Festus is old, and—"
"And I might not have repaired him right?"
"I didn't say that," Jason protested. "It's just—maybe you could fix it."
"I don't know," Leo replied. He sounded heartbroken and I knew the idea of his friend being hurt was really difficult. He gently took my hand in his, tracing all of the different lines and playing with the fingers to calm himself. "I'd have to find where he landed, if he's even in one piece."
"It was my fault," Piper sounded exhausted and while the others protested I noticed the secret that laid in her eyes.
"Piper," Jason said gently, "you were asleep when Festus conked out. It couldn't be your fault."
"Yeah, you're just shaken up," Leo comforted. "You're in pain. Just rest."
"Look, um, guys, why don't you stay with her, bro? I'll scout around for Festus. I think he fell outside the warehouse somewhere. If I can find him, maybe I can figure out what happened and fix him."
"It's too dangerous," Jason said. "You shouldn't go by yourself."
"I'll go with him," I interjected.
"Still-"
"Ah, I got duct tape and breath mints. We'll be fine," Leo spoke quickly, almost desperate. "You guys just don't run off without us."
He gently headed down the stairs, pulling me with him and turning the flashlight on.
He lead me out a set of doors, separate from the ones I went out previously. The open area's ground was covered in concrete and chemicals that came from bathroom stalls on the other side. There laid Festus, dangerously still.
Thankfully, not much other than the chemicals were left behind but I was cold and it smelled disgusting and that was enough to put me in a bad mood. Following Leo, we hiked through the sludge to the steaming metal dragon. He seemed all intact.
"Not my fault," Leo said to himself. "Festus, you're making me look bad."
I crouched down next to him, watching as Leo gently removed a metal sheet to expose wires. They were completely frozen and I audibly gasped, placing my hands over my mouth.
"Oh Festus, what the heck?" Leo questioned with a sad expression.
I gently rubbed his back and he sent a small look of appreciation before clenching his jaw in determination.
"Gimme a nylon bristle detail brush, some nitrile gloves, and maybe a can of that aerosol cleaning solvent," he spoke.
I did the best I could to help as he worked, holding what was given to me and what not. He began cleaning off a disc thing and I cleaned off the rag with water when instructed. I watched as his hands moved like second nature in awe. It would be a lie to say seeing him in his element wasn't attractive.
"What happened?" I questioned, leaning close to see his work and smirking triumphantly at the crimson blush that painted his face.
"The wires just completely froze-but that's not even the problem. The control disc is completely ruined but I don't have a replacement for it."
He ran his fingers through his hair with a huff of frustration, not even noticing the oil that now filled his curly locks. I gently took a bit of water, threading it through his hair along with my fingers to get out all that I could. My heart exploded when he melted into my chest and became immediately less tense.
"Everything is going to be ok cariño, we'll figure something out," I comforted.
Leo bursted into laughter and I couldn't tell if his red face was from the nickname or his inability to breathe. His voice was teasing and I rolled my eyes. "Cariño?"
"What?" I defended. "You call me that all the time!"
"You absolutely butchered the pronunciation," his laughter was enough to make my embarrassment worth. "It's cariño."
"Cariño?"
We went back and forth and I obviously wasn't getting it anytime soon. Soon we were both laughing; a sweet harmony I never wanted to forget. When we came out of it our faces had somehow managed to come closer.
My nose was almost brushing his and did he just look at my lips? Unable to focus on anything else, I found myself lost in his eyes.
They were a chocolate brown and when the light hit them just right, which it was, you could see little gold flecks surrounding the pupils. I didn't realize we were both leaning in until his breath hit my face and the rest of the world disappeared from view.
Our noses lightly hit and we both giggled, close enough to just about-
A piece of scrap metal hit the ground, falling off of Festus with a loud crash. We jumped apart quickly as if noticing the setting for the first time. Leo refused to make eye contact as he began his work again murmuring to himself as he worked and I stood, frozen in my spot.
You're wrong Leo, a loud voice filled the warehouse and I instantly pulled out my trident, prepared to defend him by any means necessary.
He quickly stood up, looking for the speaker but still refusing to look my way with a blush. That was when the ground began moving, snow and chemicals mixing to form a deadly slurry. A sleeping woman took form, still managing to look menacing in slumber.
They need you desperately, she said. In some ways, you are the most important of the seven—like the control disk in the dragon's brain. Without you, the power of the others means nothing. They will never reach me, never stop me. And I will fully wake.
"You." Leo shook violently and I climbed up to him, pushing the boy behind me. "You killed my mom."
Ah, but Leo. I am your mother too—the First Mother. Do not oppose me. Walk away now. Let my son Porphyrion rise and become king, and I will ease your burdens. You will tread lightly on the earth.
"Stay the fuck away from him," I snarled, attempting to manipulate the water away and break her form but it wouldn't budge.
Daughter of Neptune. You feel something is missing, do you not? You haven't had your brother since you were children, taken away when you were only 12. Wouldn't you like to see him again. Join me and you will have that and so much more.
An alarming pain filled my head. I crumbled to the floor and Leo caught me. Flashes of memories of me and Percy and Mom filled my head. Picnics, beach days, game nights. They all came back to me.
"Pelagus? Momma?" I reached out with my arms as if it would bring them back to me.
Yes young one. I can give you that and so much more. Just join me.
Tears freely fell down my face and I could breifly hear the hollow sound of plastic hitting cement before she dissapeared. Leo gently pulled me into him as I cried.
"Shh, it's gonna be ok," he comforted. "I've got you."
