83- Can I Have A Hug?
Cai
"Uh no thank you," I replied.
"What?" The goddess demanded.
"Thanks, but no thanks, I don't want to be involved in the dynasty of night, I've put a lot of thought into it, and I don't think that it's a good fit for me, so I'm going to have to say no this time."
"What-" Nyx spluttered, "I am Nyx! You can't say no to me!"
"No," I replied, beginning to enjoy driving the goddess to insanity, "I can say no because I just did."
"Cai, what are you doing?" My father murmured.
"I'm telling my grandma that I don't want to conquer the world," I said, "because I don't. I'm the god of life, if we kill everyone then there won't be any life to be the god of!"
"We won't kill everyone," Nyx reasoned, "just most people."
I desperately hoped that my father was thinking of a plan of attack as I kept Nyx occupied, but my hopes were not high, so in the back of my brain, a plan began to emerge.
"Hmm, I guess that might work better," I stroked my chin, pretending to consider the offer, "I suppose if we just killed all the annoying people then it might work."
"Yes!" Nyx smiled, "all the annoying people like Apollo and Demigod tourists."
"Yes, tourists are rather annoying," I agreed.
"Cai what are you-" Apollo started, but I shot him a look that silenced him.
"The Dynasty of Night does have a nice ring to it," I said.
"I've always thought so," Nyx's smile continued to widen.
It was only now that Apollo's slow brain cottoned on to what I was doing, "yes I much prefer night to day." He agreed, nodding his head. That was a bald-faced lie, I could hear it in his voice. Apparently, the god of truth was not so good at lying, which was largely understandable. The fact that he was the god of the sun also didn't help his case.
However, Nyx either did not notice or did not care about Apollo's lies, her eyes were utterly transfixed on me.
As far as Nyx could tell, her whole plan (one that had been years in the making) was all coming together before her eyes. I was her prize, I'm sure she had been planning my birth ever since my mother was born. Nyx was an opportunist, nothing more, nothing less, and I was the biggest opportunity she had ever come across.
"So grandson, will you help me obliterate annoying people from the face of the earth?" Nyx smiled, her expression told me that she believed she had won, exactly what I wanted her to think. If she thought she had won, she would let her guard down.
"I will," I smiled, "on two conditions."
"Name them."
"Can I have a hug?" I asked. Nyx seemed taken aback by this request, which granted was a bit strange, but for this to work, I had to touch her, "and can we start removing annoying people with him?" I pointed at my father.
I could see the doubt in Apollo's face, he didn't trust me, he didn't believe that I didn't mean it. I couldn't blame him for that, as really he had hardly known me for a day, but that didn't mean that it hurt any less to see the doubt and distrust etched across his face. I may have found my father annoying in the short time that I had known him, but he was still my father.
"Of course," Nyx smiled, she took a few steps forwards and wrapped me in one of the most awkward hugs in the entire history of the world, that did not matter, however, as I placed my hands on her back. They omitted a red light for a second before it was gone, and Nyx stumbled back.
"What did you do?" Nyx demanded, staring at her hands.
"I took away your immortality," I said coldly, not feeling any sympathy for her as she fell to her knees, "how does it feel to be mortal? Do you feel weak? Do you feel vulnerable?"
"I-I," Nyx stammered, unable to form words, as she scrambled away from me.
"How do you think my mother felt when you ran her through?" I demanded, following after Nyx, "How did all of the people who you've killed feel? Like this."
And before I could say anything else, draw my sword or get any closer, Nyx was gone. In her haste to scramble away from me, she seemed to have forgotten how close we were to the void. The straight down drop to the place of no return, where immortals and mortals alike disintegrated and were forgotten by time.
She had scrambled back too far and toppled off of the edge. By the time Apollo and I made it to the edge and peered over, we only caught a glimpse of her malice ridden face, before Nyx was swallowed by the darkness- gone forever.
Happy Birthday to me!
