55- The Revenge Of The Three Legged Death Race
********
The Labyrinth had a sense of humour. As soon as people started popping out of the Labyrinth entrance, they emerged in the camp half-blood woods.
"Didn't you say that the course stayed out of the woods," I clung on as Chiron looked for campers.
"It was supposed too!" he declared.
A crowd of campers were gathering at the edge of the woods.
"Who's missing?" I jumped off of Chiron's back as we neared the group.
"Everyone's here apart from Apollo, Meg, Kayla and Austin." Will said, he looked worried, considering it was his father and siblings missing I understood.
"How long?" I turned to Harley, "when should they have been back?"
"About an hour ago..." Harley wasn't so excited anymore; he looked crestfallen that his game had taken this turn.
There was a commotion at the edge of the treeline, "Thank the gods!" Chiron galloped towards Meg and Apollo.
"You're welcome," Apollo panted, "Chiron... we have to talk."
"We do," Chiron agreed, "but first I fear one more team is still missing... your children Kayla and Austin."
Apollo turned to go back into the woods; I caught his shoulder and stopped him.
"Campers," Chiron continued, "everyone go and shower and get changed. I will send search parties of dryads to search for Kayla and Austin."
Apollo opened his mouth to speak, "But..."
"No exceptions." Chiron said sternly, "I am not letting a single demigod into the woods."
The campers began to disperse. Apollo wasn't so willing.
"Apollo, go shower," I told him, "I will try and find them I swear."
Reluctantly Apollo did so.
"Chiron." I walked over to the centaur.
"Yes child." He said.
"I'm going to look for them." I told him.
Chiron sighed, "I thought as much."
"You're letting me?" I blinked in surprise.
"You are probably the only person that whatever is in the woods can't hurt." Chiron said.
I turned and sprinted into the woods.

"You let her go into the woods on her own?!" Apollo yelled incredulously.
"She insisted." Chiron seemed distressed.
"And you let her!" Apollo yelled again.
"My friend, it may have escaped your notice but Ariadne is immortal and even more so whilst she's carrying your child, I thought that she would be able to help." Chiron sighed, "I thought that she might be able to find our missing friends."
"I'm going after her." Apollo declared.
"No you're not." Meg told him firmly.
"What? You can't..."
"That's an order," she said, "no going into the woods until I say so."
"McCaffrey if my wife and children die because you won't let me..."
"You're exhausted and unprepared, go back to your cabin, get some rest, we'll wait for daylight." Chiron said, "I will see you both in the morning. We will find a solution. I promise you that."
Chiron shot Apollo a look as if he were worried Apollo was going to start howling at the moon. Then he trotted off towards the big house.
Apollo glared at Meg, "I'm staying here in case they come back. Unless you want to forbid that too."
"You'll freeze out here!" Meg protested, "We should go inside."
"And abandon them?" Apollo said, "Austin and Kayla are my children, and Ri is my wife! I should have anticipated that my enemies would go after them, I should've done more to protect them."
Meg didn't say anything. Apollo stormed off, returning with books, flashlights and sleeping bags.
They settled down for a restless nights sleep.
