Death Threats and Waffles

A/N: This is mostly dreams, and mostly edited 🥴🤫🙃and again, the song is what listened to while working on this 🤷‍♀️And to any Umbrella Academy fans, doesn't it sound like a song they'd use in the show!?

It was dark, and a foul smell filled my nostrils. Slowly my eyes adjusted to the darkness, and I saw monsters. Like a whole armada of them. They were in some place dark, maybe underground. But it didn't feel like that. Maybe it was just nighttime?

Suddenly there was a bright flash, and it got eerie quiet. A tall skinny man was standing on some sort of raised platform up ahead. He had curved horns coming out of the top of this head, and was carrying a glowing staff. He held out his hands in a grand gesture.

"Do you know why we were here?" The mad asked, and it sounded like a hundred snakes all talking at once.

"Uhh... doughnuts?" A monster asked from the sea of them, and the man sent a glare in that direction.

"No, not doughnuts. We are here for power. To overthrow the ones who have wronged us. And where do we start with that?" He said, and this time no one responded. I could practically hear the man roll his eyes.

"We start by portaling our way into Avengers Tower. You see, if we start there, then we have the advantage. Though only we can accomplish this if the receiving end of the portal is opened. But then, will we travel together and attack!" At this the man raised his staff, and all the monsters made horenousd noises that I assumed must have been cheering. Then the man held up his hand for silence. It was quiet for a moment, and he seemed to be thinking. Then a small smirk formed on his face.

"And do you know what we will do to those ungrateful brats who will try to stop us?" He questioned, and the monsters shuffled nervously. The man looked straight at me, and I could see his cold blue eyes and all the fury that was concealed in them. "We will tear them down, bit by bit." He spat. "Until there is nothing left." Then his image started disappearing, and suddenly I was in an entirely different place. Well, it was still dark. So not entirely different.

It was dark and gloomy, and seemed to wreak death. I was floating towards a massive building made of dark rock. And once again, my dreaming image went right through the walls until I was inside a huge throne room looking thing. A guy who looked in his thirties was sitting on a dark obsidian throne. He had a crown made of bones, and a dark cloak on his shoulders. A smaller, paler boy, was kneeling at his feet.

"Father, what is happening? Is it another great war?" The boy asked.

"Nico, you know I can't tell you that. And unless you're willing to go back in The Pit, I don't know." The man seemed to think for a second. "No, I'm not letting you go back in. You're no longer allowed to go into Tartarus, you remember what happened last time don't you?" Tartarus? What was that? And who was Nico... No wait. He was the guy Percy had mentioned. Something about more monsters than usual or something? And about asking Nico what was going on...

"But dad-" Nico stopped mid-sentence. He turned towards my direction. "We're not alone." His dad looked around and his eyes landed on me.

"Who are you?" Nico's dad asked. Wait- was I actually here? I opened my mouth to reply, but I didn't seem to be able to speak. I tried again, but it was like trying to talk underwater and be heard above.

"Ashely," I managed to croak out.

"The person Percy mentioned?" Nico asked.

"Who is Ashely?" His dad asked.

"I think a new camper," Nico said. "The one who went to live with the Avengers... oh gods... that's what's going on, isn't it?" Nico said suddenly. "Dad, are the monsters gathering to attack the Avengers?" His dad said nothing, but the look in his eyes said otherwise. Nico had guessed right, though I was still trying to figure out what he was talking about. Monsters... were going to attack... the Avengers?

"You should go," Nico's dad said. "And wake up this Ashely character while you're at it." He said, and Nico nodded. "Just... try to make sure that returning her back up there, thatNico turned back to me, "This might feel a bit weird." He said, and waved his hand in my direction. My body suddenly felt numb, and the last thing I saw was a young woman running in and yelling something sounding mad. "Hades! Why is there a corpse in our bedroom!?" And with that threatening statement, the image faded to black again. Then AC/DC's Highway to Hell started playing, drowning out her voice. I shot up immediately.

(Anything in italicas is the song... Highway to H3ll)

Livin' easy

Lovin' free

Then I felt someone shaking my shoulder, and I tried to push them back. Where was I?! What just happened? Where was Nico? My eyes were still closed, and I managed to hit them backwards and I heard them fall to the floor.

"Hey, hey! Calm down!" The person said, and I carefully opened my eyes...and saw that it was Tony Stark who I hit. I was in Avengers tower, and I- WAIT- I JUST HIT TONY FREAKING STARK! Schict.

Don't need reason

Don't need rhyme

I looked over the clock next to my bed. It was almost six in the morning.

"Do you usually get up this early?" I asked him, trying not to freak out.

My friends are gonna be there too

"Sometimes I do, but honestly, the AC/AD kinda woke me up."

"Oh sorry," I said. "I usually fall asleep to music, I didn't know that this song would play so early in the morning."

"Nah, it's ok. I like AC/DC. I'll usually listen to them while I work." He said. "And I don't think it woke up anyone else."

I'm on the highway to hell!

"Which song is your favorite?' I asked him. "I mean, uh, by AC/DC."

"Back In Black," he said immediately. "... Or Kick You When You're Down." He shrugged.

"Yeah, they're both good. Hard to choose..." I said. "Wait, why did you wake me up?" I asked.

"Oh," his face went a little red.

Nobodys gonna slow me down

"J.A.R.V.I.S. reported you doing something... weird in your sleep. You started shaking and you were going pale." He said and I froze again, looking just past his face. "And believe me I've had my fair share of nightmares, so I know how it feels." He finished, and I non-visibly sighed. I was glad that he thought it was just a nightmare. Otherwise how would I tell him that Nico woke me up? How would I even start to explain my world to him...

Nobodys gonna mess me around

"Yeah, bad dream. But that's all I can remember, that it was a bad dream I mean... Not what it was about." I replied, and he didn't seem convinced, but he let it go. I really need to step up my lying game.

"Well now that I'm awake, you said something about a tight schedule or something yesterday. What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.

"Right, that. Well you see, there's training, finding you and Peters skills. So like an orientation. Prep for Loki's visit, and then figuring out the school situation." That was too much information for me to take in after just waking up.

"Loki's coming? And what was that about school?" I asked, because that was all I caught.

"Oh, Loki's coming to the tower because Thor thinks it's a good idea for him to get out once and awhile. And school, uh, do you mind me asking where you go to school?" He asked me and I hesitated.

"Why?" I asked and he bit his lip. Like he was going to ask a question that wasn't going to have a good reaction.

"Well, I thought it would be a good idea for my two trainees to both go to the same school, and Peter's school is closer to the tower- What I'm asking is if you'd be willing to switch schools."

I was shocked for a moment before I said two things.

"I don't mind," I responded, and Tony sighed with relief when I said that. But then I continued. "The only problem is that he told me he goes to that fancy science school for geniuses, Midtown High or something. Which as you know from my dyslexia and ADHD, I'm not the best for a nerdy genius school. I'd probably get horrible grades, and then my mom would get mad- Well, actually I don't really think she'd care much. She's never, really... home..." I said, and then realized I'd been rambling. Also that Tony had been quiet for a while.

"Oh," He said in a small voice. "Well I just thought that... hmm, let's talk about this later? Alright?" He asked, trying to change the subject. I nodded. "Now," He said. "Lets go get some breakfast. I feel in the mood for some waffles."
