The Long Night

Blaze stayed by me while Lisa did all the complicated medical stuff. I thought, judging by my current state, that I wouldn't need it. I guess she just wanted to make sure that I was alright. The thought made me feel happy, because when I was still small, I was the runt of the litter. I was abandoned at the start of my life. It wasn't my fault though, it was just the way of the world. I can't really remember it clearly, though. Come to think of it, before the dying-in-the-blood-puddle-event the days were all like the same, but my memory faded as time passed, being blurry and stuff. It was the same everyday.

Wake up-everyone does that.
Groom myself-I gotta still at least be clean. God forbid me get sick because of a unclean pelt. Seriously.
Look around for breakfast-Cafe's are a good source. I'm a regular in a small but nice cafe, although the bigger and better ones are usually crowded with competition and people hurrying through their lives.
Waste time by going by the school in my area/territory-I really like the school. I prefer the alleyways better, because I don't want to rely on people too much like those other...pets... The school kids are friendly, well, at least some of them. If I come crawling there half-dead, they'll patch me up. The teachers are fond of me. When I feel down, I head there. I get at least a little comfort from there. I usually spend around a couple of hours there, until lunch.
Noon
Find Lunch-It's a little harder finding lunch than the morn. I don't go near restaurants because they'll chase me away with stuff I don't really want to talk about it. Cafe's are still a reliable source. The school is also one.
Check for pests-Sometimes, there might be stuff like ticks or lice. When that happens, I hunt for stuff like alcohol, or rat bile or stinky stuff. They seem to hate it as much as I do. Good thing it is too(even though it takes ages to wash off).
Wander around-The other cats ignore me, because I'm quite young for my age, plus, my territory is quite small. I still walk around, checking for cats. I'm actually okay with most of them, because most of them actually are quite decent. Sometimes, an old cat I know called Reezo passes through. He died last summer, because of old age. Reezo was like the father I never had. Maybe grandfather. I miss him. Wandering around takes a couple of hours too, along with the pest checking.
Evening
Waste time again-at this time, the school would be empty, so I wander around, sometimes straying from my are to chat with the friendly cats. At this time, the drunk yards tend to wander too, and so does the other people. I like to listen to their stories. Some are very interesting indeed. I try to help them, but I can't really speak their language.
Find dinner-The hardest time of all. Sometimes, I hunt any prey that come out at night. I'm not very fond of the taste of blood, though, so I rarely do that.
Clean myself-A clean pelt is better than a dirty one, no matter the time.
Sleep-Everyone does that. Tomorrow is another day.

Remembering my past life made me wonder, just who was that girl? Now, when I'm not dying, I remember clearer, I remember seeing her before, with her smile. Who exactly is she and what? She didn't give off the same scent I got from humans, but that suggested that she wasn't human. All the people I've met were human. Somewhat. What other kind of people were there that weren't human? While I mulled over these things in my mind, Blaze was busy fiddling with something. I looked over his shoulder and saw a crystal clear, multicoloured glowing square with a puzzle piece pattern. He realised that he was being watched and turned his head towards me and smiled. "Do you want to try?" He asked. "It's a puzzle, right?" I questioned. He nodded. I hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to react to this sudden kindness, after all, I've not much experience to this kind of thing. The world was cruel to me and kind to others. Sometimes. "Go on. It won't kill you." Blaze pushed the small cube into my hand. I held it in my hand, feeling the surface. Strangely, it felt warm and comforting. I worked the cube, bit, by bit, until I was left holding a pile of strange shapes. I looked at Blaze, not knowing what to do next. He laughed and took the pieces from me."You were smart enough to complete the puzzle and now you're needing help? It's as though your subconscious is doing it for you.". I thought that he was strange. He believes in that kind of stuff? Lisa stood up straight, giving out a loud, tired sigh. "I've finished starting up this machine. Your heart rate meter should be starting up now.". I nodded silently. She tilted her head slightly, looking  a bit curious. "If you need anything, just go up to the phone over there,"She gestured to the wallhanging phone that could be clearly seen."Press that big, white button to send a message." I nodded again. "You look quite tired, you two should get some rest." Blaze and I glanced at each other, then looked back. "I'll leave you to be.".She turned and walked out the door, maybe to look after another kid like me. "Well..." Said Blaze."I am feeling a little tired... Maybe we should get some rest.". I knew instinctually that he wasn't saying it for himself, he was saying it for me. I sighed, overwhelmed by how quick my life has changed.
"Fine."
This was going to be a long night.
