Nightmare
The trees around me seemed to move their branches, in order to hassle me. I didn't know why I was running, but my cat instincts kept screaming at me to make those legs move, to make short, quick breaths, in order to not tire too quickly. But I could hear the sounds behind me. They were unlike any sounds I knew, I wasn't familiar with them. Something inside me told that all was not well, that this would never end with me escaping. But I still kept running. Suddenly, something brightly aflame leaped out at me. It was so bright, I couldn't see what it was clearly. But... I got a glimpse, that was enough to let me see. The flames around it burned everything, including me. My vision was awash with flames. A bird? Something... Something jerked me up from that compelling nightmare. And that something was Blaze. He shook me awake. The sun shone brightly through the curtains, giving off a soft, lush glow to the ground and walls. I felt groggy, while the recent events flashed through my mind. The near-death experience, the girl, the operation, these flashbacks made my mind clear. I gave Blaze a morning nod while still blinking the effects of sleep out of my eyes. Blaze had slept in the bed beside mine. Fully awake, I clambered out of bed, wondering what time it was. Just then, Lisa strolled in, pushing a trolley along with her. She gave us a cherry smile and placed a food tray on the makeshift plastic table attached to a metal pole which held my bed. There were so many questions that I wanted to ask but all that came out of my mouth was a yawn. Blaze said, "Great, let's eat, I'm starving.". He got up immediately and accepted another food tray from Lisa. I asked Blaze, "Why did you stay?". He looked at me, as though he didn't understand. "Do I need a reason to stay with someone who I rescued?". He said it as though it was common sense. "You probably don't understand. I think it's because you might've lived in a harsh environment. Am I right?". I hesitated for a moment, then nodded slowly. He smiled a little sadly. "It's ok, I grew up like that too.". I had never met a human who understood me, but, then again, he might not be human. He also didn't give off the same scent I got from a human, although it was similar. While we ate, he explained how he had found me. Apparently, I was lying in a alleyway in this form while he was passing by. He carried me to the hospital, which explains the stains on his shirt. "You were strangely light." He remarked. I just shrugged. Something came to my mind at that time. "Hey Blaze,"I said. I just had to ask the question."Are you...really a guy?"
