Introduction & Prologue
'Light and darkness cannot exist without each other. In the absence of light, the world is enveloped in profound darkness, a void where shadows linger and clarity fades away. Without the shining brilliance of light, the very concept of darkness loses its meaning. There is a delicate balance in the force, and never break it.' ~ Rakla Kroan, Second Degree Jedi Master.
'Life isn't always just; that's simply the nature of things. You can either embrace your life as it currently stands or take action to change it. However, this isn't entirely true; at times, regardless of how hard we try to enhance our lives, the result remains unchanged. It's a disappointing reality, but it's a reality nonetheless.' ~ Lady Lauria StarStine.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
A holy war devastated the once-peaceful planet of Nilo, located in the Rishi Maze Galaxy. The citizens were enslaved by a ruthless outlaw gang known as the Vaxtions (Vaxxs), who established a brutal dictatorship.
In response, a courageous group of warriors from the StarStine Royal Household harnessed the power of the force to fight back and rally others to their cause. However, their hopes crumbled when they were betrayed by one of their own, leading to chaos and despair. In an instant, the sacred path of the force they had cherished transformed into ashes, leaving a lasting scar on the people of Nilo. Force users alike were hunted and slaughtered at the hands of bounty hunters.
Sixteen years later, surviving siblings Lilith and Kenneth StarShine have become skilled guides in the Vaxtion Escord Guild, using their talents with force. They navigate the perilous Razors' Edge Mountains, a dramatic range of sharp, blade-like peaks that can cut through metal. The fierce crosswinds make air travel impossible between the Capitol and the distant Nilonian Spaceport, Daxerine. In this treacherous terrain, Lilith and Kenneth ensure their client's safety while deepening their bond with the rugged landscape.
An evil lingers in the darkness, leaving a shadow that looms over Nilo as the spectre of another war threatens to erupt. Like a relentless disease, its fury will sweep across the surrounding planets, leaving destruction in its wake. In no time, the entire Rishi Maze Galaxy stands on the brink of devastation, poised to be engulfed by chaos and despair.

Prologue
A torrent of rain-like hellfire cascaded from the churning black sky above Lady Lauria StarShine, striking the ground with violent force and erupting into brilliant bursts of flame upon impact. Her long brown hair illuminated with each strike. She stood firmly on one of the elevated platforms of the StarShine Temple, her figure silhouetted against the chaotic backdrop.
Below her, the courtyard, once a serene oasis of beauty and tranquillity, now lay in shambles, its tranquil gardens and stone pathways marred by the devastation surrounding them. The air was thick with the scent of smoke and ash, swirling around her like dark clouds of despair.
Lady Lauria's gaze scanned the destruction, a heart heavy with the weight of memory and loss. A hand gently touched her right shoulder. "Milady? We must go; the temple has fallen."
"I cannot leave my people," came Lady Lauria's response. "They need me."
"Your children need you more," the maid who held baby Lilith StarShine on her hip gently squeezed Lady Lauria's shoulder.
The young maid, with her gentle wisdom, was undoubtedly correct, yet the mother felt a heavy reluctance to abandon her beloved people. Lady Lauria, burdened by sorrow, cast one last lingering glance at the crumbling ruins of the home she had cherished for so long. With a deep sigh, she turned away, feeling as if she were leaving a piece of her heart behind.
A sense of betrayal twisted within her as she faced her maid and friend, Lucy. "Tell me, Lucy, how many have we lost?"
Sorrow hung in the air between them.
The maid passed the tiny bundle of baby Lilith into the waiting arms of her mother. She sighed, the sound laced with sadness. "You and your children are all that remain," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. "Our forces stood no chance against their relentless inquisitor. Please, Milady, we must go. Danol has Kenneth and two speeders waiting."
An explosion too close for comfort rocked the temple. Flames danced below in the courtyard, reflecting in Lady Lauria's brown eyes, giving them a more golden look. Holding her baby close, she turned and followed Lucy towards the door.
As the two women approached the doorway leading back into the temple, Lady Lauria suddenly stopped, her mind racing. Lucy's words echoed within her: Inquisitor? The term felt heavy and unsettling, pressing down on her with questions that left her momentarily frozen at the threshold. Had she really heard that correctly? "What did you just say?"
"Danol is waiting with Kenneth in the loading station just outside—"
"No! Before that! What did you say?"
Taking a moment to think, Lucy met Lady Lauria's anxious gaze. "There is an inquisitor in their ranks, a formidable force user much like you, Milady. He is relentless in his pursuits, wielding a striking crimson laser sword that gleams ominously in the shadows." She paused momentarily as another explosion rocked the building. "Whispers suggest that he has eliminated anyone who dares to stand against him."
"An inquisitor? Here, of all places? Our planet has always maintained its distance from the conflicts that rage across the Galaxy." Lady Lauria spoke her thoughts out loud.
"Could it be that he has forged an alliance with the Vaxxs?" Lucy responded briskly, her blue eyes narrowing in thought. The Vaxtions, after all, started this war. "They only gained their formidable power in the wake of the Galactic Empire's collapse."
Nodding her head in agreement, Lady Lauria held baby Lilith closer to her. "I believe that to be the case. Do we know where this inquisitor was last sighted?"
"The royal courtyard, I suggest we avoid it and use the catacombs."
Once more, the mother nodded in agreement. "Let us go."
After a while, the two women skillfully navigated the twisted remnants of the ancient temple, their every movement shrouded by the cloak of shadows that danced around them. The crumbling stone walls, draped in vines and echoes of forgotten history, loomed above as they slipped into the hidden safety of the catacombs below. The air grew cooler and musty, each breath thick with the scent of damp earth and decay. Unbeknownst to them, deep within the suffocating darkness of the catacombs, a hidden enemy lurked, their eyes glinting with evil intent as they observed the women's fleeting figures disappear into the inky blackness.
Lady Lauria played in the catacombs as a child, and she knew every turn and memorised every tunnel. Although the damp, chilly air surrounded them, this was the only safe route from the invading Vaxtions above.
Nearing their destination, Lady Lauria felt a chilling emotion sweep across her body as if a thousand bugs were crawling on her skin. She felt cold, not that it wasn't surprising being in the catacombs, but this was different. The mother stopped with no warning, almost causing Lucy to bump into her.
"Milady? What is it?" The maid noticed somebody or something had Lady Lauria's attention drawn to the dark tunnel they had just come from. "Milady, we're almost out, what's wrong?"
Lady Lauria carefully passed her child to Lucy. "Take her and go."
"What—"
"Lucy, please, you must go," she begged Lucy, her voice a mere whisper. "Take Lilith to Danol and her brother."
"Milady, I don't—"
Once more, Lady Lauria cut her off. "Lucy, this is an order. Go now, and whatever you hear or see, do not look back. Promise me, you will get Lilith and Kenneth to safety."
"I—"
"Promise me!"
With a heavy sigh, Lucy held baby Lilith on her hip and with her free arm, she placed it on Lady Lauria's shoulder. Though she could not wield the force, a subtle awareness radiated from her, and Lucy sensed that Lady Lauria was keenly attuned to the unspoken tension in the air. "I promise I will get them to safety."
Kissing her daughter on the forehead, she moved backwards. "Thank you. Now go, get her out of here. Hurry."
Lady Lauria stood in the dimly lit tunnel, her heart heavy as she observed Lucy give a quick nod—a silent farewell. As Lucy turned and slipped away into the depths of the tunnel, Lady Lauria felt a deep sense of foreboding wash over her. She understood, with a sinking feeling, that this moment marked the last time she would see her beloved daughter or Lucy again.
With a heavy sigh, she stripped off her once-white jacket. The fabric fluttered to the ground, landing softly in the stillness around her. As she did so, the air grew colder and thicker, wrapping around her like a shroud.
"Why must you lurk in the shadows," she spoke into the darkness. "Come out. I do not intend to run." As she had expected, an outline of a figure appeared in the dimly lit tunnel where she and Lucy had just come from, illuminated by a small light hanging from the catacombs ceiling. "Might I know who you are and why you attacked the StarShine Temple before you end my life?"
A sinister chuckle echoed in the dimly lit tunnel as the cloaked man stepped into the light. His dark fabric swirled around him, adding to his menacing presence. "Lady Lauria StarShine," he drawled, his voice thick with venom, "I'm simply carrying out orders." Hatred laced each word, and his eyes glinted with malice as they fixed on her.
"Whose orders?" The reply she received was a smirk, and Lady Lauria drew a deep breath. If she could not know who had ordered the death of her people, she at least wanted to know who he was. "Who are you?" She repeated her previous question.
The man stepped forward, now fully in the light. "Do you not sense me, Milady?" he mocked, removing the hood from his head.
With her eyes wide in disbelief, Lady Lauria gasped, "You!" A mix of shock and betrayal washed over her, and her knees buckled as she crumpled to the cold, damp floor. The moisture seeped through her tan pants as she looked up, heart pounding. "You betrayed us? Why?" she asked, her voice trembling with hurt.
The answer she received was not in spoken words but in the deep hum of a laser sword igniting. Brilliant crimson rays cut through the darkness as the man stepped closer to Lady Lauria, his intense gaze locked on her.
"You don't fear me, do you?" He asked, holding the sword in front of his face. His icy gaze locked onto Lady Lauria, who remained silent and avoided his stare. With a low, threatening growl, he pressed on, "Tell me, do you fear death?"
Lady Lauria met his gaze, a knowing smile playing on her lips. She was satisfied, fully aware that her distraction had given Lucy the time she needed to escape, safe and free.
"No, I do not fear you." With that being said, Lady Lauria glanced deep into the man's eyes as he thrust the laser sword through the air, aiming directly at her chest. "What you have done here will be your undoing. I fear not death, but I fear for you."
For a moment, the man froze, wondering what the meaning behind her last words were. Mere seconds after she had spoken, he watched as her body slumped over and fell to the ground. The life force of Lady Lauria drained away, but her sacrifice would not be in vain.
