The darkness is her guide
She rested her head on the soft leather chair and pushed her head against the cushions. Finally, some peace.
Her company has been running more than perfect and she was able to single handedly win all the contracts. With an expanding client base and loyal employees, it was finally time for Rajani to let out a breath and reflect on the past. Because it's just the past. Right?
She had to let go of all her struggles and focus on now!
She slowly closed her eyes and drifted to a restless sleep...
Just three years ago, she was in her old ram shack house in the crooked streets of Hyderabad. Her father was always the main priority of the house, after all, he earns money and money was everything. It was all you needed to live a peaceful life. That's what Rajani was taught.
Everything was going fine in her life until the faithful day that her father gave up. He left the world for good, and she doesn't like bringing up the topic much, because it was like rubbing salt to a wound that just never healed.
It was like her family's light was just blown out!
She was taken away from college to save money and work in a minimum wage job to help the family, all in a quick blur.
Just like her name- Rajani- which meant darkness, she was left in nothing but darkness.
Her mother would say that there would be 'better times' when her younger brother, who was surprisingly not taken away from college would earn a job.
Although she believed that her brother was the so called 'light', she was clearly too impatient to wait for that to happen.
If that meant she had to walk in the darkness to make her own light. Then she will, she will use the darkness itself as her guide!
And with that said, she took the biggest gamble of her life, she was a business student in college before, and she never brags when she says that she topped every class because, she does.
She took all the money that she saved up and she journeyed to a company offering a secretary position in a big company.
Even if she dropped out, she was still full qualified and took the job and to her surprise, it wasn't a minimum wage!
That night, when she came home- her mother shouted an ear full at her.
It was the same lesson again and again – 'Wait for you brother, he is our light'
But instead of quietly walking into her room, she fired back at her mom saying-
'If men are our light, then I will use the darkness itself as my guide! I am sick and tired of this stupid lesson, I earned a job and it might give us a better life NOW, we won't have to wait until brother finishes studies!'
She threw the job details at her mother's face before she stomped into the room.
Not looking back.
She jerked awake from a restless sleep-this was her on going nightmare. But it was also the truth.
Instead of hating her dreams, she remembered the happy nights after that day, the days when she became her family's light.
It took time but her mother gained faith in her and with the money that she was making, she founded a tiny start up!
Three years later, she has become the richest woman she could possibly be!
Memories of her past seem to push into her dreams every now and then, but now she has learned to embrace them.
