My New Sister

Percy POV

It took a few hours and a lot of coaxing, but I got a deal figured out with my darkness. I won't go into the details of it, but basically he gets Alabaster when we find him. In return, I get to keep my body and he confines himself to a small, sometimes annoying voice in the back of my head.

I opened my eyes and found myself in my room again. Percie was still asleep, but the battle above her no longer raged. I didn't know who won, but I had a pretty good idea, based on the peaceful look on her face. Maybe it would be interesting to have a twin sister, now that she wasn't crazy and Hades-bent on destroying the whole world.

I wasn't sure how to speak to my darkness, who had introduced himself as Acrisius, so I just projected a thought through my mind. 'Double cross me and I'll chain you into a dark corner with a gag, got it?'

'I'm back here you moron.' A small voice replied. 'And I understand.'

I nodded once. 'Good.'

I got a mental image of Acrisius rolling his watery blue-green eyes and sitting down in the center of a small room, tipping his head forward so his dark brown hair covered his face.

A more pressing thought came to mind. What now?

I'd tamed the beast, so to speak. Now I had to find the other threat.

I could feel the rage running through my body at the thought of Alabaster. He had created Percie, who had killed Annabeth. Now I had lost her forever, she'd moved on.

I was going to let Acrisius rip Torrington limb from limb when we found him.

"You look conflicted." A voice said from the doorway. I looked up to see Wisteria standing there, a small smile on her face.

"Uh... why are you here?"

'Idiot.' Acrisius muttered. I sent him an image of me flipping him off.

"I felt a surge of goodness, so I came to investigate." Wisteria looked over to Percie. "I think I found it's source."

"She's not going to be the same, is she?"

"I don't know." Wisteria looked back at me. "Believe it or not, this is the first time I've witnessed something like this. Suppressed emotions brought to life, made into a separate entity. It's fascinating."

I smiled a little. Something about this goddess was intriguing.

"She's waking up." Wisteria said suddenly, looking back at Percie.

I looked over as well.

Percie stirred slowly before sitting up and yawning widely, stretching her arms out. She opened her eyes and looked at Wisteria and I.

"Hi."

"Hi."

"Hello."

We sat in silence for a few minutes, then Percie turned to Wisteria and offered her hand. "I can't exactly get up at the moment, I'm not supposed to, but I'm Percie."

The goddess crossed the room and shook her hand slowly. "Wisteria."

"You're a goddess." It wasn't a question.

"Yes."

"How did you know that?" I asked.

Percie shrugged. "I dunno. I just did."

"Some people just know." Wisteria smiled. "I need to go. Percy," I knew she was addressing me because she looked towards me, "come to my temple when you have the time. I need to speak with you."

I nodded and she was gone. Percie and I looked at each other for a moment.

"Should I figure out a new name?" She suddenly asked.

I shrugged in response and she shot me a glare, so I elaborated. "I don't care if you do or don't. Do you want to?"

She nodded, a bit sheepishly.

'Course she does.' Acrisius muttered.

'Shush.'

"Why do you want to change it?" I asked her.

"To distance myself."

"From what?"

Percie rolled her eyes. "You really are dense, y'know that?"

'She's right.'

'Didn't I just tell you to shush?'

'You did. I didn't listen.'

I shot Acrisius a mental glare and turned my attention to Percie again.

"What do you want to distance yourself from?" I asked again.

"All the bad things... What I did as 'Percie.'"

"Oh. Oooooh!" I got it now.

"Yeah. Oh." She muttered.

"Well if you want to change your name, I can show you Athena's library. There's bound to be some interesting names there. Unless you already have one picked."

"No, I don't have one... Can you show me where the library is?"

And that's how we ended up sitting on the floor in Athena's library with several books stacked around us.

"You can't pick one that makes you out to be a bad guy." I insisted, shaking my head. "You said you wanted to get away from what you did."

"I do," Percie said, "But I also want to remember. And make myself better than that."

"I'm not going to let you guilt trip yourself for something you can't fix or change." I told her. "You were incapable of being good. Now you are."

Percie just shrugged and flipped another page in the book she was reading through.

"What book is that?" I asked, trying to see the title.

"Just a random book." She didn't look up, just kept flipping. "I grabbed it off the shelf cause I liked the color of the binding."

"Can I see it?"

"Sure." Percie handed it over and grabbed another one.

"Most Popular Ancient Greek Names and Their Meanings." I read the title out loud. "Interesting."

"Like I said, I was only looking at the color of the binding... What about this name?"

"What is it?"

"Agatha." Percie read off. "Meaning: good."

"Agatha?" I made a face. "It sounds like some old lady."

"Better than the one you suggested. What was it, Barbara?" Percie retorted.

"Okay, fair point." I made a gesture of surrender and went back to my book.

We sat in silence, adding names to the piece of paper we had been passing back and forth. There weren't many, Percie was rather picky about what she was going to re-name herself.

"Think any of these will work?"

"I like some of them... And I can't sit still for any longer, these books are going to be the death of me. Let's go find something to do."

I rolled my eyes. "Alright, we can go do something else."

"Yes please." She leapt to her feet.

Maybe this new version of Percie wasn't that bad. It was like having a twin sister.

I stood and we quickly put away the books.

"Let's go find something to do." She grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the library.
