Chapter Twenty-One: To Kira

I had done a simply locator spell on Kira, finding out she was in New Mexico a place called Shiprock . Our plan was to go to Mexico and get Kira and bring her back to Beacon Hills to help us out. Getting the band back together was going to be more difficult than expected, but hey I like a challenge. I had gotten change into something more comfortable if we are going to New Mexico...

I stood with Stiles as he was currently fixing his jeep as Scott was getting a few things. Liam also stopped by wanting a chance to talk to Scott, to smooth things over between them both. Since the night of the super moon, they haven't really been on best terms. To be honest, I hadn't had a chance to talk to him either, but it was more of my doing than his.

I didn't overhear their conversation, as it was between them. After a moment, I see Scott come out from his kitchen door, opening the door that leads outside to us, just in time to hear Stiles grunt to himself. Stiles and I cast our eyes to Scott, who unhooked Stiles's light and shines it onto the engine of his jeep.

"So, what did he want?" Stiles asked, wanting to know what Liam wanted.

"To help," Scott replied, though Liam might have nearly killed Scott, he was still willing to help our cause.

"You gonna let him?" Stiles went on, grabbing a tool before leaning back over the hood and started tinkering with his engine.

"Eventually, I guess," Scott states, as he didn't know what to do with Liam at this moment in time.

"Ok, but shouldn't he be a little higher on your priority list right now? I mean, since he's the only other actual werewolf, your only actual Beta," Stiles made a valid point to Scott, his eyes focused on him.

"You didn't see the way that he came at me. You didn't see the look in his eyes," Scott states back, though Stiles wasn't there, he could imagine.

"Well, I've been with you on a full moon, so I've seen that look," Stiles went on, Scott taking a sigh as he knew he was right. "You want to get the band back together, Scott, you don't leave out the drummer," Stiles states his analogy perfect for this situation.

"He's right Scott," I began as Stiles went around me to the driver side. "You need everyone you can get," Scott's eyes were on me, as they were soft looking as he knew I was right as well. Suddenly, the engine of the jeep roared to life, meaning success. I smiled as Scott came to the front of the jeep and Stiles did the same, but I quickly got in the back as there was a bit of room, due to the containers that Stiles had in the back.

I sat behind the drivers seat, yellow containers to the right of me. Scott and Stiles climbed into their seats, as Scott puts his red duffel bag behind, but he notices the containers that were stashed to the right.

"It's a minor leak. Very minor," Stiles states to Scott, his thumb and index finger inches apart.

"Looks like it," I joked as Stiles backs out of Scott's drive-way, I hear the tires screech, before he turns and began on the road. Our destination, New Mexico, Shiprock...

But I was hoping Kira was all right...

.......................

It's been a good few hours, we were now on a long winding road. But the surroundings were no longer lush green tress, but instead it was a desolate desert. Plus, it was boiling hot in Stiles's Jeep, good thing I wore this outfit, but the sweat still poured from my forehead.

"Man, I think the Jeep's overheating again," Scott states, his eyes lifted from the book I had provided him.

"Probably," Stiles replied straight off the bat. But we continued to drive in this condition.

"Should we pull over and put more antifreeze in it?" Scott asks Stiles, because we didn't want to break down and get stranded here.

Stiles sighs. "No, we can just turn the heat on," he states, just as he pulls a lever back, it poking out. Warm air began to blow through the Jeep, and the noise was bearable. Scott quickly rolls down the window full, letting cold air enter the jeep. Before he got back into his comfortable position, and began reading once again.

"You found anything yet?" I asked Scott, my eyes going to him, but who just looked at the book.

"They're mostly the same stuff you already knew," Scott began, before his eyes went to the writing. "Damnatio memoria was a Roman practice, a government decree to destroy the images of the damned. And they would scratch off their names from inscriptions, chisel their face off of statues. The Romans believe it was a punishment worse than death," Scott had given us this small description on what the Latin words meant.

"Being forgotten," Stiles states.

"Listen to this. Damnatio Memoriae, was later used on a serial killer in 1598, known as the Demon Tailor. He lured children into his shop in Paris where he would kill them and boil the flesh off their bones to eat. The courts believed the crimes so horrible, that they ordered all the documents destroyed. To this day, no one knows his real name," Scott had told us more information, but it slightly sent more skin crawling. Though I wasn't born yet, it was just a creepy thing to think about.

"So the Dread Doctors resurrected a killer who was so bad that he had to literally be erased from history," Stiles replied, connecting the dots together.

"A deadly killer which became a werewolf," I had announced, leaning forward to pop my head in the middle of the boys.

"Which probably made him a better killer," Stiles states, his eyes wondered from the road to meet mine and Scott's, but we had troubled expressions. "That's great," he sarcastically states, before putting his foot down onto the gas as the engine revs to life and the jeep picks up speed.

We needed to find Kira as fast as we can...

*************

More time had passed, Scott switched seats with Stiles as it was now his turn to drive. But I had took a nap, because if we needed, I would need to be at my full strength. Suddenly, I could hear the engine begin to sputter, making me snap open my eyes.

"What's happening?" Scott's voice entered my ears, making me sit up, to look at them both.

"Are we out of gas?" I asked, my eyebrow raised, looking at the gas meter, but it said we have half a tank.

"Yeah, we're out of gas," Stiles confirmed that we are out of gas.

"It says we have half a tank," Scott shot back, his eyes flickering between the gas meter and Stiles.

"Yeah, not necessarily," Stiles spoke, looking away from our gazes.

"You didn't fix the gas gauge, did you?" Scott spoke, knowing what was wrong with Stiles's jeep.

"Not necessarily," Stiles went on, just as Scott pulls us over to the side of the road, making me sigh in defeat.

"Remind me to compel you a new jeep," I spoke, my voice laced with a joke tone, but also held serious. The jeep comes to a halt, making me frown, as I lean back into the seat. "Guess you two are off for gas," I flickered my eyes between them, but they willingly got out of the car, but Stiles grabbed a red jerry can from the back seat and took it with them. I watch them walk into the distance, but I didn't see friends. I see best friends, they would do anything for each other, and mostly their other friends...

But one person did come to mind, Derek. He would know what to do in a situation like this. He had been Scott's mentor of sorts, when he wasn't being a dick to us... But my mind cast back to that Night...

(Flash back)

The night Derek and I had sex for the first time. Our time together was great, the pleasure was greater, I had never met a man like Derek. He was one of a kind... Truly. I remember the night fondly, we had finished up, but of course we had gone multiple times. We had a lot of energy to burn through.

I laid on my side, Derek's arm under me, as my own arm was draped over his bare muscular chest, as I was awake, he was fast asleep. We had the covers over us, just half-way, so our bodies were covered. But my index finger danced along the hair on his chest. His chest rose and fell with his breathing, the night peaceful and quite, the only noise that came to ear was Derek's heartbeat. I took a deep breath as I thought how I allowed myself to fall for an werewolf, but truth be told he wasn't an ordinary wolf. He was something different, he was so special to me now. But deep down, I was still frightened about us, about what we mean. I can't offer him a family, I can't offer the peace of death together. And I don't want him turning into a vampire because it was no way to live...

Derek shuffles in his sleep, groaning slightly, but I rested my hand flat onto his chest. Smiling up at him, as he was growing on me, still to this day. My gaze left his face to stare out of the loft windows. I slowly rose from the bed, as I held the covers to my chest, before turning to the edge of the bed, my feet touching the cold ground. I stood from the bed, taking the covers with me, but Derek was still covered from the under sheet, it was just above his pelvis. I turn around to face him, his top half was on display, I bit my bottom lip as the sight of him was alluring, just enough to make me just jump back on him. But I didn't, he needed his rest...

I wrap the plain grey covers around my body, it was like I was wearing a dress, it flowed on the floor as I made my way over to the windows. Once I got there, I stared out of the window, stars shining brightly in the sky. I took a sigh, my mind over-thinking this situation, because at the end of the day, I couldn't give him what he truly wanted. A life...

"What are you doing up?" Derek's voice pierced the silent air, breaking it. But his voice was soft, and warm to hear. I turn around to see him leaning on his elbows, his eyes upon me.

"Just thinking," I told him, offering a smile, as I didn't want to lie to him, but he knew something was a matter with me.

"About?" He questioned, leaning further up, no longer on his elbows, but sat up right.

"Us," I replied directly. I see his expression drop, like I had just stabbed him in the heart. "Don't get me wrong Derek, I've enjoyed our time together. You make me feel special," I told him as I edged closer to the bed, my eyes never leaving his. "But I can't offer you what you want," I came and sat at the edge of the bed, our eyes meeting the same level. "A life after all of this. Life where we grow old, have children, die together. I can't offer you that because I'm a vampire," tears began to threaten my eyes, and Derek took notice.

"That doesn't matter to me, I like you Alice. That's not gonna change," Derek replied back, his voice husky as he slithers his hands into mine. They were warm and welcoming.

"But it matters to me. I don't want to outlive someone who I care for,"  I shot back, but my tone steady and calm. "It's going to be hard as it is when I have to watch my friends grow up and then die," a single tear ran down my left cheek, making Derek's expression soften as he didn't like seeing me like this. "I want to offer you everything you deserve Derek. But I don't think you'll find it with me," I bit my bottom lip, to stop myself from crying.

"Don't do this to yourself Alice," Derek states, as he knows I'm torturing myself with this idea of the future.

"I'm sorry Derek, but it's for the best," it broke my heart to say the words to him as more tears ran down my cheeks. Slowly, I  began to stand from the edge of the bed, our hands disconnecting but Derek quickly latches his hand onto my forearm.

"I love you," he spoke the three words that I've longed to hear in my immortal life. I smile softly at him, tears kept flowing, as I know he meant it. We've been through a lot, and the goof still says it...

"I love you too," I replied back to him, his expression seemed to lighten up with the words because I do love him. "That's why I have to let you go," but his face fell as I spoke the words. His hand lowered from my forearm, I could just tell that I've just broken his heart and the look he gave me broke mine. In a flash, I went into vamp-speed, gathering all of my clothing, within seconds, before opening his door in vamp-speed, before speeding out and away from Derek. The last thing imprinted in my mind was his heartbroken expression...

But this was for the best...
Though the pain will stay with me...
