Chapter Thirteen: Parrish

Darkness is inside everyone, some more than others. But with the right amount of pressure, grief, or fear. Anyone can give into that darkness. Either it's killing someone to protect one of your love ones or something that you might not be proud of. Alice has had her fair share of darkness in her life, she's done things that she's ashamed of. She's hurt people closest to her and it killed her afterwards. But the darkness inside of her was her vampire-side, the one that with too much grief could switch off her humanity, allowing the darkness to roam free and be the worse parts of herself.

But her darkness should always been locked up...

............................

I began to wake from my slumber, my eyes began to open to the light from the sun. The birds chipping away, and the rustling of the tree, swaying in the breeze. I groan in pain as my neck was hurting, I slowly began to sit up, twirling my neck out. I look around my surroundings and my heart had dropped...

I was sat on the top of the Nemeton, bodies were scattered along its roots. I put my hand over my mouth as I realisation had dawned upon me. Parrish is the one talking the bodies of the Chimeras, but why... I slowly got to my feet, standing on top of the Nemeton, my eyes cast around to look at the bodies on the ground.

"Alice?!" A voice called out to me, making me spin around and look through the tree line to see Lydia and Parrish, staring at me. With one quick push off my legs, I vamp-sped across the treeline and to the side of Lydia in a flash of an eye. "Oh thank God," Lydia states, thrilled to see me. She quickly embraces me, and holds on tight. "We've been looking for you," she pulls back to stare at me in the eyes.

"Yeah, I've been dead on top of that tree stump," I retorted to her, before cocking my gaze to Parrish. "Thanks to him," I pointed at Parrish as he looked confused. "You're the one who snapped my neck, and must have placed me here," I spoke kind of harshly to him, and after that kiss. Who could ever forget that, probably him...

"I didn't snap your neck," Parrish replied, his expression kind of shocked to hear this as he would have never thought of hurting me. But I don't think he meant it in an malicious way...

"It doesn't matter. I'm fine, so it's good," I replied to him, offering a smile small before my gaze locked back to Lydia. "How long have I've been gone?" I questioned her.

"Just the night and half the day. We found Hayden and Liam, they're safe," Lydia replied. To be fair, I had forgotten about Liam and Hayden. But that didn't make any sense, I would have been awake in a few hours, because I'm older and being dead shouldn't keep me down long. But out of the corner of my eye, I see Parrish cock his gaze to the Nemeton to see the bodies. He had no clue, he was the one who was taking the bodies. Without warning, Parrish brushes pass me and began walking, making Lydia and I walk with him.

"I need to call it in," he began, rushing forward in front of us. "No, I need to turn myself in," he corrected himself, making Lydia and I match his pace, as I was in the middle of them.

"Not a good idea, love," I told Parrish, as he wasn't thinking straight.

"You just told me I'm the one taking the bodies. I've attacked other law enforcement officers. That's a criminal offence," Parrish states as his eyes flickered between us. "I shouldn't even be near you both," Lydia and I cocked our gazes to him, like he was silly to think such thing.

"I'm not afraid of you," Lydia replied straight off.

"Neither am I," I said to Parrish, my tone truthful.

"I'm afraid of me," Parrish rushes out as we continued to walk, never losing our pace with him.

"Whatever's happening, seems to only happen when there's a body. Other than that... You're still a pretty nice guy," Lydia tried to comfort him, as he wasn't a bad guy, it was the creature within.

"And a pretty good deputy," I added into the conversation.

"I've a very good deputy. And I'd like to stay that way. Flipping over Jeeps and attacking colleagues, snapping Alice's neck, doesn't exactly fit with 'protect and serve'," Parrish states his tone rushed as he was rolling it all off his tongue. "I'm covering up the bodies of murdered teenagers,"

"You're not covering them up..." Lydia began, but it made her stop in her tracks, making us all stop to look at her. "Actually, maybe you are," Lydia states as we came to the stop at a chained line, where Parrish's car was. But Lydia was onto something...

"What?" Parrish asks, not understanding what Lydia was on about.

"It's the same thing we asked Stilinski to do with Tracy," Lydia states, her eyes on Parrish. "You're not covering up the bodies,"

"You're covering up the supernatural," I had finished off for Lydia as that what she was getting at.

"What's the difference?" Parrish asks, clearly not understanding us right now.

"Maybe you're keeping the secret safe. Maybe that's part of what you do," Lydia states, trying to see the bigger picture here.

"I'm a deputy," Parrish raises his voice slightly, as he wasn't grasping the concept.

"You're not just a deputy. And you aren't one of the bad guys. I know that for sure," I told him, my voice soft but his eyes burning into me.

"Alice, Lydia just showed me that my dream was real," Parrish was stressing about this. "But you haven't heard the rest of it," Parrish spoke softly, Lydia's gaze went back to him, but I all ready know where this was going. "Every time I carry a body to the Nemeton, I put it down and," his gaze lowered from Lydia's, as he was reliving the memory. "Add to the ones that are already there," Parrish's voice went soft.

"How many?" Lydia asked the most important question of them all. Parrish's eyes took from the ground to meet our eyes staring at him.

"Hundreds... Hundreds of them," he replied his eyes flickering between us, as this wasn't good.

"Oh, not good," my eyes wondered from Parrish to the floor, as this wasn't good. His dream could be a vision to the future, or something that may never come to pass, but we had to take it as a possibility. "Can I speak to you Parrish alone?" I ask, my eyes cocking to Lydia, as she nods her head to me before she ducks under the chain and goes to sit in the car. I took a few steps closer to Parrish as he looks at me waiting for me to speak "Do you remember me talking to you in the morgue?"

"I remember us talking. Then nothing..." Parrish states his face looked defeated for not remembering.

"You kissed me," I spoke softly to him, as he looks shocked for a moment, but the colour of his cheeks began to turn red with heat, and his heart beat had picked up slightly.

"What? Wh-Why, would I do that?" He rushes out, his words stumbling but I find it cute.

I offered him a warm smile. "I have no idea. But I thought you should know... Would you like me to show you?" I said to him, raising an eyebrow in question.

"Can you do that?" He asks, his expression surprised.

"Anything is possible with me," I chuckled at him, before reaching out and touching his temples on both sides, just using my index and middle finger. I concentrated on the memory I wanted to show him, and I felt my magic work as Parrish closes his eyes. Images of the other night, where Parrish had kissed me, flowed through me and into him. It lasted for a moment, he saw what I had saw, and even felt what he did, but I had no idea. Parrish eyes swing open and he stares at me, but I lower my hands from his temples. "I didn't want it to be weird around us, so I thought you should know," I told Parrish, his eyes held appreciation and I think he was grateful that I told him and didn't keep it secret.

"Thank you," Parrish began, his eyes never left my, as I offered a small smile. "And I'm sorry for snapping your neck, but I can't remember doing it," he went on, his voice truthful, he was really sorry for hurting me.

"It's all right. Good thing I can't die by a broken neck," I joked to him, making him smile, but a question did rattle around within my mind. Why did he snap my neck and place me at the Nemeton? Maybe he knew that I could stop him, so he dealt with me first...

...............................

Parrish had drove us all to the station, as his plan was to be placed in a cell, which wasn't necessary but his mind was made up. Lydia and I sit on a bench just outside the office of the Sheriff, her mind rattling with questions, as did mine. I lean back my back pressing against the wall behind me, my arms crossed over my chest.

"Hey," the Sheriff's voice pulled us both out of our thought process, making us cock our eyes to him. "What the hell does he think he's doing?" Sheriff went on, referring to Parrish in the locked cell.

"Protecting us," Lydia replied, her gaze on the Sheriff.

"From who?" He asks, his eyebrows knitting together.

"Himself," I added to the mix as he was protecting us from himself, but there wasn't anything to fear from him. The Sheriff's expression turned to a stern one, before he matched away from us to the cells in the back.

"Please tell me you know what he is?" Lydia asked a few moments after the Sheriff had left, making me turn to look at her, but I had no clue.

"I have no clue, but we know he sense's death. That's a starting point," I replied back to her, as it was the truth. "I've lived long enough to know that Parrish isn't a bad guy," I told Lydia the honest truth. I've stared evil in the eyes before. Before Lydia could get a word in, my phone began to go off, beeping. I pull free my phone and see a message off of Scott, saying to meet him at the Clinic as it was urgent. "I have to go, Scott wants me," I state, standing from the bench, my eyes on Lydia. "Keep an eye on him," I told her as she gives me a firm nod...

I left the station behind and made my way home, as I needed a shower and a change of clothes before I meet Scott...
