Chapter 1: Memories

"Babe, I have to go! The meetings at ten and I cannot be late. I'll see you for dinner, I promise. I really think we are gunna get that deal!" Rich smiled eagerly. He quickly kissed Jake— stealing his breakfast (a piece of toast with jam)— and rushed out the door. It was quite a goodbye, but Jake was used to his long term boyfriend being on the go. Never a moment to spare with Rich. He was the one always on the run.

First it was the college experience. Rich and Jake had both taken a liking to a local college campus and Rich quickly found a job close to the school. Over winter break Jake had found out that he had been excepted. However, because of Rich's late admission the college had denied his application over the summer.

It had been a little hard on the two as far as time goes. Jake was frantic with the upcoming sports seasons auditions, training, and classes. Where as Rich was working a full time job where ever he could find one. They both had really struggled to keep time to see each other.

The result ended up with Rich practically living in Jake's dorm room with his roommate, Erik. The two were exhausted most days, coming home around seven and collapsing on each other. Falling asleep almost as soon as their entangled bodies hit the messy sheets.

Most of the time Jake woke up alone. Rich already gone to his six o'clock shift. Jake's classes most days started at eight, but sometimes he would have to be on the field at seven for training.

Through all the work the two always had a great day on Fridays. Reserving the time to hang out before a game. Jake would get a pep talk from his number one fan and a little "physical training" to rile him up.

No one could deny that Rich was probably the most avid supporter of the Scarlet Knights. You could easily point him out in the crowd of rowdy teens. His face almost always covered in white and red face paint, and his red chicken streak waving as the team scored a touchdown, or a couple of yards, or even if someone on the team caught the ball.

Always, despite whether or not the team won or not, Rich would come down to the edge of the stadium at the end of the game and hug his dirty boyfriend. The cheerleaders would whoop on the side and laugh, but not mockingly.

College was hard, but it was a wonderful experience. However, as the years went, so did the little time they had.

Rich got promoted by a construction company Jakes last year of college. They were both ecstatic for the opportunity, quickly finding an apartment in New York City. They settled down as Jake started searching for a job that fit his degree in sports management.

Rich would come home greeted with a well cooked meal, a loving boyfriend, and a cozy atmosphere almost every day. Jake would take the opportunity to talk to Rich about the jobs he applied for, and in turn Rich would talk about his work and all the crap his new boss gave him. It was so nice, and both of them were really happy.

Jake soon got a job as a personal trainer, the salary was decent, and their style of living went up dramatically. Until Rich figured that enough was enough with his old boss, and started his own business.

Jake would take joy in knowing how much of a help he was to his lover. He would help manage finance, hire the workers, find small jobs that the company could start with, and advertised.

They bought out a little firm, and hired some contractors. For the first few months the business didn't do that great. However, the business get a gigantic deal for the deconstruction and reconstruction of a building downtown. Ever since it was a smash hit.

Jake's help slowly became moot. He just wasn't needed anymore. Rich assured him that Jake was still very much the most needed person in his life, but every day it became less and less of a truth. Their nightly dinners, the love, and even the bed went cold. Rich would stay out to celebrate and have a drink with the guys as Jake found it hard to celebrate anything anymore.

Rich seemed to be so distant. Maybe that was Jakes fault, he thought to himself. He cleared out the kitchen table, throwing away the rest of his breakfast. He wasn't really that hungry anymore.

He checked his phone. He had till noon before he had to head over to the gym for his appointment meeting with his client. He switched on the TV and caught some of the news. The recent disasters and greatest accomplishments rushed over his ears without him hearing them.

He lazily glanced around his loft. It was a good spot. The gigantic windows in the front opened to revel a small terrace and a view of the city skyline. The TV was pushed up against the glass, and the couch rested in the middle of the small sectioned off part of the room. The "living room" was separated by different leveling, and the dining area was just left of the TV. Behind him there was a bar area sticking a little bit out and around it was the kitchen area next to the doorway. The sink slowly dripped water, and Jake passed a thought about calling to get that fixed. The wall stretched out next to the door with enough space between to put a small table. The wall slowly stemmed into a bigger area Rich endearingly called the garbage space.

There was equipment, cement, old clothes and dust in that area. Luckily Rich has installed a certain to close if company came over.

Across from the dining area and next to the kitchen bar were stairs going up to a small area over the kitchen that connected to the bathroom and the master bedroom.

Jake raked a hand through his messy hair and sighed. Their six year anniversary was coming up soon. Jake couldn't help but think about the past.
