Hope and Faith - Grace's POV

"Grace? Grace wake up!"

My eyes snap open. I scramble to my feet. Barry is on the other side of the room. Tessa and Mariana are still out cold.

"Barry? What are you doing here? I thought you got lost after 2024." I reach for the lasso on instinct, but it's not here. The door opens and Captain America walks in.

"Since your friends aren't awake, I need you two. Preferably now, so we can get this over with." He says before pull us outside. Barry is slightly shorter than him. Maybe by an inch or so. I try to take his shield and knock him out with it. He blocks my hand and tries to defend himself. I kick him, but he catches my leg.

"What are you doing? Run!" I shout as I slam into Cap. He stumbles back before I punch him in the stomach. I reach for a taser on his belt, but he grabs it first. Electricity courses through my body before I fall limp.

"Grace!" He shouts. Cap throws me back in the cell before going to get Barry. Feeling slowly returns and I get up. Mariana has woken up, but not Tessa.

I get up and walk to the door. Mariana tries to pry it open. Then, she notices the lock.

"It's electronically locked, which means it can be overridden. Pull the cover off for me and then we're out of here." I hesitate before pulling the cover away to reveal the wires. Mariana took robotics, computers, and a few other classes dealing with design and technology. "It's like a movie. I need the disconnect the red wire and it should unlock. Terrible planning on their part, but great for us."

A steel hand tears the wire out. Tessa stands behind us, her steel skin returning to flesh. She drops the wire as the door unlocks. The extrapolater is with Morgan. We have to find her and get everyone home. I kick the door open and listen for anything that could lead to Barry. I hear screams of pain from a locked door. I walk to the door and listen.

"Please, I'm begging you. I have a wife, and a daughter. They need me, and my city needs the Flash." He screams again, and I hear something drop. His wallet. I peek through the window. He's strapped to a metal table of some kind.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Allen, but I can't let you go when you know so much." Someone says. I can't see them, but I know they aren't Cap. A hand picks up the wallet, which has a picture of a five year old girl and her parents. It's Nora. "Is this them?"

"Yes. That was taken a while ago. She's spent years without her father. Please, just let me go." He replies. I hear him scream again. When I look again, there's blood all over his face and suit.

"That's enough!" Someone shouts. Cap walks over. His face is deathly pale. I guess he doesn't have the stomach for torture. That makes two of us. He picks up the wallet and places it in Barry's utility belt. "He clearly knows nothing, and if you torture him anymore, he's going to die."

"Yes, sir." He says, releasing the restraints. Barry can hardly move without making a pained noise. Even with his accelerated healing, he's in pain. Cap helps him to a gurney and opens the door. I can't hide and watch him struggle in pain.

"He needs medical attention, not to be thrown in a cell." I snap as I follow close behind. He stops and turns around. "I was at the front with my mother before we went on a trip to another Earth, I know a difference between something that needs a bandaid and something that needs a cast or stitches."

"I'm not taking him where you think I am. Your friend Morgan, and someone who I guessing is her brother or something, sent a transmission last night telling me to bring you four to an extraction point." He moves the gurney into the back of a truck while Mariana, Tessa and I climb in. He closes the back doors and climbs into the driver's seat, starting to car. "Keep him stable while I'm driving. After all, he has a family that needs him."

He turns his head to look at us. I smile at him and pause. Caitlin is better equipped to handle this. Right now I just have to keep him from dying. I pull his cowl off and hold his hand. "We're going home soon, Barry. I promise."

The car stops and the back doors swing open. We're at a hospital. Tessa and Mariana share looks of worry. I notice some of the wounds healing. Morgan and Clark walk to the back of the truck.

She pulls the gurney down and wheels him through a back door. She pushes him into a hospital room before closing the door. She hooks up a heart monitor and IV as she moves him into a hospital bed.

He glares at Cap. As he tries to get up, I hold him down. He struggles as he tries to fight my grasp. Mariana grabs a dart Caitlin made a while back. The second he sees it, he stops trying to get up. He tries to get away.

"Barry! Hey, look at me! We aren't going to hurt you." Mariana puts down the dart and runs the back of her hand along his forehead. She points to the hallway. I follow her out and close the door.

"He's burning up. My guess is that whatever they did to him is weakening his regenerative capabilities. If that fails, his speed may be next, as well as several consequences of his injuries like rapid blood loss or maybe even death." She explains. She glances back into the room. He's finally calmed down. "That dart is the only sedative strong enough to knock him out, but he gets all panicky when I lay a finger on it. Maybe I can get the sedative into a needle, but until then I need you to keep him relaxed."

"How about I make sure he doesn't see the dart and you stick it in his neck?" I ask. We have to make sure he's alive when we go home. That way, Caitlin can help us. She nods before walking back into the room. I grab his wallet as Mariana grabs the dart. I reach for Nora's picture when she pushes the needle under his skin.

His breathing slows and he slips out of consciousness. She's seventeen, and she was working with the Legends for years. She probably knows how to fix things, right? She starts stitching the wounds closed, watching Barry's facial expression change into a pained one. I walk out of the room again, trying to clear my head. Someone follows me.

"Hello Grace. I am Agent Carter, and I will be taking care of you until your mother is released from our custody." I notice a man behind her. The man who coaxed Miss Jiwe back into the base. I get out of the chair and walk towards him.

"You did this!" I shout, hitting him in the stomach. He stumbles back and picks me up by my waist. I struggle to get away.

"Calm down right now, Young Lady. I am not afraid to punish you." He orders. I try to kick him. He carries me to a small room with a cot and table. I try to kick him again. He sets me down on the floor and closes the door. I hear it lock as I get up.

"Oh my gods, you were so strict back then. All I did was try to escape, and you locked me in a closet!" I smile. He is standing right behind me. "You never told me why you tried to call me over in the pub, though. You were with Agent Carter, Sergeant Barnes, and it looked like you were having a good time. Why play babysitter for a girl you've never met?"

"Amaya. She was holding a shard of glass to the neck of a soldier whom she claimed was 'Darhk'. Even after we had her in custody, she had to be restrained to prevent her from assaulting anyone who entered her cell. We had her totem and she still nearly killed Peggy and Bucky, at the same time." He says. Of course she did. I try to wrap my head around it. She was a member of the JSA, a totem bearer, a former Legend, and she still tried to fight two of that camp's best.

"Ma'am, I need you to stand down before we have to use force." I hear through the wall. I can hear screams before a loud voice can be heard in the room.

"Miss, please calm down. I don't want to hurt you." A new voice says. I hear a battle cry, a lion's roar, and then silence. It's finally broken when I hear someone scream. "And I thought I was strong."

"Give me back my totem!" She shouts at him. I can hear the air raid sirens from here. Walls are thin, like paper. I wonder if I could just break one. I try to slam into the wall with my shoulder, but nothing happens. "Just please, let the girl go. She's only a child."

"We can't do that." He says. Then, the woman's voice follows close behind with another male one.

"Captain, Miss Prince wants to see you." She says.

"Steve, we have to go. She's a demigod, remember? That means her daughter is as well." The man adds. I hear something hit the wall with a thud before Amaya finally speaks up.

"Stay away from me!" She shouts. "I need you to st-"

"What happened to her? After you knocked her out." I ask, backing away from him.

"We considered sending her to a mental hospital, but then we had to consider the fact that she was probably going to break out before the war ended. We had to chain her up until you three could go home." He explains as he taps my shoulder. There's a scar from where a shard of the glass bottle grazed me. "You had a cut there when I brought you in, but you would never let a doctor see it."

"When you asked me why, I told you they lacked the imagination to believe that it would heal soon. You would come in every day and talk to me. It made me feel a little less alone when I was separated from my mother. Soon enough, you unchained Amaya and let her see me. Then, as the war began to slow, you disappeared. Bucky disappeared, too. You would let Amaya in and close the door. Your eyes sold you out. You had been crying. Bucky was dead." I remember. I walk back into the room and sit down, leaning my head against the wall as I drift off to sleep.
