Chapter 32

I started toward her with confidence. I wouldn't rest until I had her heart beating in my hands. As soon as we were face to face she threw her head back and laughed.

"Are you ready to finish this, my sweet daughter?"

"Yes. You've caused enough death and destruction." I growled.

"It will end when you choose who dies at my hand."

"I'm not choosing anyone!" I screamed at her.

"Fine. I'll choose for you." She rolled her eyes as she evaporated into a cloud of black smoke.

I frantically searched through the crowd for her. She wasn't beside Ian or Dimitri. Amelia and my dad were on the other side of the clearing.

Before I knew it all of the vampires had been killed and the demons were gone. There was nothing but silence and the smell of smoke from the burning school.

Dimitri sauntered over to me stepping over the bodies. He slung his crossbow over his shoulder. He looked like a true warrior with all the blood splatters painting his skin and clothes.

"Where'd the old hag go?" He asked looking around for my mother. Ian, Amelia, and my dad joined us. Finally her annoying villainous laugh filled our ears. She stood just ten feet away glaring at us in amusement.

"Well, well what true warriors. I'm guessing you all feel like you've won." She circled us like a hawk closing in on its prey.

"I have to admit I'm pretty impressed." She added.

"Give it a rest, Anna. No one is interested in your games anymore!" Dimitri spat. He pointed his crossbow at her.

"Oh put that thing down! You know there's only one weopon that can kill me."

Everyone turned to stare at me. I mustered up every bit of strength in me.

"I won't let anyone die today except you!" I roared.

The battle had been won but now came the war. Everyone backed up as I unleashed every element possible on her. She dodged some, popped some, but a few actually hit her. She seemed surprised by my determination.

I watched in horror as she waved a hand and all the corpses began to rise. They still looked dead but were moving at her command.

"Fight for me, my friends," she ordered them. My group spread out to take down the same ones they had killed just moments before.

"The head has to be separated from the body to keep them down!" Dimitri informed the others. He slung his now useless crossbow down. He pulled a long jagged knife from his belt.

Amelia didn't have a physical weopon but she had her magic. She used diffrent spells to slow the already slow corpses down so they could be slaughtered.

"Ready to have some fun?" she grinned wickedly. I backhanded her with all my might. She seemed shocked for a moment then recollected herself.

She shot orbs of black goo at me. I tried to dodge as many as I could. One hit me in my side and stuck to me like tar. It burned my skin intensely. I tried to ignore the burning sensation as I retaliated.

I conjured up as many vines as I could. They writhed from the ground and wrapped around her wrists. She faded away into a cloud of black smoke and reappeared a few feet away.

With lightening speed she soared past me knocking me to the ground. She picked me up by my throat.

"Maybe you can be the one to die!" She snarled her eyes turning completely black.

I placed my hands on her arms. She dropped me with an angry yell as I burned her arms. I kept throwing orbs of fire her way until she fell to the ground. She sat on her knees in a daze.

Before I could finish her off she evaporated into smoke. I really was beginning to hate that trick.

"Are you okay, sweetheart?" my dad rushed over wrapping me into a protective hug.

I tried to warn him. I tried to cry out...but I was too late. I watched in despair as my mother plunged her hand into his back and removed his beating heart.
