chapter 24
We pulled away from each other to stare at her. She still had on the blood colored dress but now her hair hung like a curtain around her face.
"Shouldn't you get a mother's approval on who you date?" she joked. If looks could kill someone Ian wouldve murdered her. He didnt bother to mask his hatred on his flawless face. He pushed me behind him protectively.
"Its not midnight yet," I pointed out ignoring her dumb mom joke. She hadn't earned the right to even call herself a mother.
"I know it's not but I got bored." She shrugged walking to the edge of the water. It rippled as if trying to get as far away from her as possible.
"I'm not choosing anyone. No one deserves to die. I'm done playing your games, Anna," I spat standing to my feet and walking toward her. I was now only inches from her. Although fear tried to creep over me it was replaced by anger. She threw her head back and laughed.
"Oh my sweet Josie. You really are your father's daughter." She smirked. I continued to stare her down. Her eyes traveled down to the initial necklace my dad had given me. A spark of anger flashed in her eyes.
"You know I tried to bond with you, Josie, but you've proven to be difficult." She snapped. Her big blue eyes started to swirl until they were nothing but blackness.
"That's because your idea of bonding is murdering people!"
"I've just came to let you know I have business elsewhere to attend to. You're friends are safe for now," she laughed as she turned into a billowing cloud of smoke.
I turned to look at Ian. He was still glaring at the spot she had stood with his hands balled into fists.
"She's great at killing a moment," I sighed.
"Josie?"
I turned to see Chloe walking toward us. The spell had finally worn off! I broke into a full blown sprint toward her. She seemed surprised when I threw my arms around her.
"I'm so glad your ok!" I cried.
"Amelia told me what happened when I woke up."
We were interrupted by loud shouts coming from the school. Werewolves were pouring out of the school in human form. They each had a drink in there hand and were clearly celebrating. Vampires, witches, and fairies followed soon after. To my surprise even the creepy zombies slowly dragged themselves out to join everyone.
My father, Dimitri, Amelia, Olivia, Merrick, and even Evelyn also joined everyone. Fairies began passing out cups of their silvery blood. Everyone was laughing and dancing as someone started playing music.
Chloe went off to talk to Amelia. Ian went to help himself to a glass. I joined my father and Dimitri. We watched in amusement as Merrick tried to convince Olivia to dance with him.
"I can't believe Silus Salvatore is actually allowing a party on campus," Dimitri grinned slapping my dad playfully on the shoulder.
"Well with what these kids have been through I figure a celebration is in order. Besides theres not many of them left. The rest are either dead or were pulled from the school by their parents. I'm just letting them celebrate being alive." He smiled as he looked out at the excited students dancing by the lake.
"Hey, Evie, do you want to dance?" Dimitri grinned winking at her.
"Not even in your wildest dreams," she snorted as she ran off to scold a couple of students for dancing too close.
We all couldnt help but laugh. I wondered if Evelyn had always been so uptight. I grinned at Ian as he joined us.
"Dont worry I'm limiting myself to one glass tonight," he laughed as he took a sip. I rolled my eyes.
"Merrick has it bad for Olivia." Dimitri smirked as we watched his failed attempts to convince her to dance. I really couldnt see why. Zombies were the creepiest creatures I'd ever seen. It was enough to discourage me from ever draining a person dry.
Although they didnt seem to rot like in the movies, you could tell they were walking corpses.
"Olivia seems nice but zombies creep me out," I shuddered as I said it.
"Merrick was in love with Olivia before she was a zombie." Silus answered an amused smile playing on his lips as he watched the couple.
"Really? What happened to her?" I asked curiously.
"She was a normal human but Merrick used to sneak out to see her anyways. He lived with the humans before he came here. He was trying to live a normal life. A group of vampires had came into town and didnt like the face that a wolf was with a human. They drained her right in front of him." Dimitri explained with a sad expression.
I suddently felt guilty for calling her creepy. She had just been a normal girl who fell into abnormal circumstances. It seemed her and I had more in common then I thought.
"Dance with me," Ian whispered in my ear. I couldnt help but laugh at his goofy expression. The fairy blood had begun to loosen him up.
I followed him out to the crowd if dancing students. We danced for what seemed like hours. I couldnt help but be on guard for something bad to happen. Much to my surprise the rest of the night was nothing but fun.
I couldnt help but smile when I noticed my dad slowdancing with Amelia nearby. They were lost in each others company. Dimitri was still following Evelyn around trying to annoy her. Merrick's hard work had finally paid off. I spotted him and Olivia dancing under one of the weeping willow trees.
"You really look beautiful tonight. Sorry so many people crashed our date," Ian breathed into my ear as we swayed to the music.
"Thank you. I'll admit I'm really loving that tux." I admitted leaning into his chest. I closed my eyes and enjoyed his irresistible scent.
"Well dont get use to it. This thing is uncomfortable," he laughed.
"I also dont mind our company. It's great to see everyone having a night of fun."
"Josie, I really am sorry for how I treated you when you came here," he blurted out pulled me away gently so he could look into my eyes.
"I believe you're making up for it now." I murmured leaning back in to enjoy his dreamy smell.
"I want to keep making up for it. I can't promise I wont screw up but I'd like to try. I've never cared about anyone the way I do you. I just wanted to know if you felt the same way." He asked. It was cute to watch his cheeks turn a deep shade of pink.
"I do," I answered running a hand through his messy black hair. I'd really been wanting to do that. It felt just as silky as I had imagined.
"Well in that case....um..can we make it official? I guess what I'm trying to say is will you be my girlfriend?"
