| The Dark Side Of Marriage |
HALIMA nibbled on her bottom lip as her eyes switched from her phone to the clock hanged on the wall. She was meeting with Khalifa at the cafe which was right the corner. Nasir called in sick today due to headache leaving her lonley but also the time to gather her thoughts.
Her time was running out and soon Nasir would start to ask when he was going to ask for her hand in marriage and she wasn't even divorced yet. Not to mention she hasn't even broke the news to Nasir about her being married with a child.
She was glad he wasn't the social type and was from Katsina so he wasn't apart of Khalifa's group which was a huge help to her considering he was around the same age as Khalifa and they would easily tell him what was going on.
Ransacking her black suade bag, Halima took out the divorce papers looking down at it biting her lip. She knew the type of person Khalifa was but even after knowing him for seven years, he was unpredictable at times which set her off, but she had to what would benefit her and she wasn't about to priortize someone's feelings over hers.
Halima stood to her feet slinging her bag over her shoulder walking to her car pulling the car door open sliding into the familiar seats she couldn't wait to get rid of as soon as she got married to Nasir.
Arriving at the designated place, Halima turned off her hoping out of the jeep sauntering towards the restaurant, earning a few looks as she walked by. Her gaze was set in front of her as she sat in a booth beside the window considering she had a thing for bright places and views.
Minutes later, the familiar Audi A8 pull zooms into the empty slot beside hers. Khalifa's tall figure covered by a brown kaftan and Versace slides on his feet came out of the car strolling into the restaurant, his face devoid of any emotion.
Her eyes followed him as his eyes roamed over the restaurant before it landed on her. He approached Halima who unknowingly bit her lip, her thoughts going back to the last time they had been together but quickly snapped out of her thoughts giving him an uneasy smile when he settled in front of her his expression unmoving.
"I know what you said about us not meeting but it's important but-" Halima cut herself off as she fished the divorce papers out of her bag cautiously passing it to him.
Khalifa stayed quiet reaching his hand for the papers, examining them before placing them back on the table averting his gaze back to Halima his expression unmoving.
"Pen?" Khalifa inquiried as Halima quickly reached for her bag handing him the pen settling back down. Khalifa was about to sign before stopping when something caught his attention causing him to raise a brow tearing his attention from the paper to her.
"You want me to take Iman's custody?" Khalifa let out a breath as a laugh, shaking his head not believing what he was reading. It was easier for him considering he didn't have to fight for custody but for her to leave her daughter and be okay with not seeing her for years blew his mind but he wasn't suprised by whatever halima would do.
Halima avoided his gaze as she fiddled with her bracelet. "I'm not sure it would be okay for get married bringing a child. He would feel like he is being handed a responsibility he isn't responsible for. Besides, it would not be right for a man to take care of your daughter when you're alive and well." Halima explained finally meeting his eyes where both eyes were close to the same color, just the right eye which was a bit darker than the other.
Khalifa licked his lips nodding his head, reaching for the papers signing the papers with no hesitation. No questions. No pleading for forgiveness or a second chance, he just signed them with no problem almost like he wanted to. Halima's heard wrenched in her chest and she looked out of the window so he wouldn't notice the tears pricking her eyes.
Before he could utter another word, Khalifa's phone rang earning Halima's attention who quickly looked at him and didn't miss the way his face held confusion for a moment but it lit up before sliding his thumb across the screen answering the call.
Khalifa excused himself standing to his feet sliding his hand in his pocket starting to walk away. "Suprised to see you actually call a guy." Khalifa let out a flirty laugh, before exiting the shop, that being the only thing she could have heard.
Her eyes followed his movements as he leaned on his car with one hand casually resting in his pocket while the other was holding his phone as he conversed with the unknown person she already disliked. He let out a laugh standing straight after supposedly ending the call.
He tapped something on his phone as he walked into the shop approaching the table. He slid the phone in his pocket looking up at her waiting for her to continue what she was saying.
"You know it's baffling." Halima scoffed a laugh motioning between them. "You cheated on me six months ago and you can look at me and actually get mad about me being with another guy after what you did. Yea I get it, I didn't tell you and you feel like I was pulling you back. How so? Last time I checked, you're the only person who knows what I'm going through so isn't it only normal for me to actually go to you? Tell me if I'm wrong because I'm very confused. You are the one at fault and you can't even be there for me when I need you the most? With you being the main reason of the pain so please elaborate why you're so mad because you have no reason to." Halima snapped, crossing her arms over her chest, her chest heaving up and down as she waited for his reply.
Khalifa didn't react to her words as he sat up in his seat interlacing his fingers, his eyes boring into hers before he let out a laugh, revealing his pearly white k-nine teeth that enhanced his looks and was one to the many reasons women were attracted to him.
"The fact that you're saying all of this after what you've done just showed you're not even remorseful for what you've done like you claimed. But I could care less, there's nothing left to sign, we're done here." Khalifa remarked, pulling his wallet out of his pocket, pulling out five bills placing them on the table, standing up about to walk away only for Halima to speak.
"But you also cheated. And you cheated with a common whore that couldn't even stay with one man." Halima spat, her voice laced with venom not being able to hide her dislike for Anisah.
Khalifa's jaw clenched and he placed both his hands flat on the table, hanging his head low, appearing angry yet calm as his eyes flickered to Halima who was staring at him cautiously.
"You can blame me for every single thing that's going on in your life, I don't really care but don't you ever speak on her again like that. She doesn't know you and same goes for you so keep her name out of your mouth. I wouldn't like to say that again." Khalifa said in a low tone, his eyes staring into hers to show he was dead serious.
Halima gulped, pressing her lips in a thin line nodding her head slowly, taken aback by how angry he got when she brought up Anisah. She had no idea she meant that much to him, thinking she was a random girl in his contacts he slept with.
Khalifa might had broken off things with Anisah at a time, but she still meant dear to him, and after he found out the things she went through just to get a bad reputation as a result just made him more protective over her.
And hearing the names Halima was calling her was ticking him off and he wasn't about to let her call her names, when she was guilty of same thing. He didn't have the time to listen to Halima rant about how he ruined their marriage like she always did.
Halima's brows rose in utter shock as she watched him straighten up, picking up his wallet before walking away, not bothering to utter a word to her.
And that's when she knew she couldn't take it back. That's when she knew she had already picked a side and there was no going back. And that's when she knew, there was no going back to her life nor her daughter.
Oou Nasir I hope you're worth it.
