| The Dark Side Of Marriage |

STARING at his friend who seemed to be drowned in regret and concern, Mohammed picked up a glass that was in front of him downing the contents of the drink before glancing at Khalifa shaking his head.

"She'll come around but you need to give her sometime. She's enraged as of right now. She wouldn't listen or believe whatever you have to say." Mohammed advised him not leaving anything out not caring if it came out wrong, he was being blunt.

Khalifa let out an exasperated sigh, leaning back in his chair closing his eyes wondering how halima got to the picture. Did Anisah send her the picture perhaps, because he didn't even know the picture was taken considering he was staring straight ahead when it was taken. He wouldn't even be suprised if she actually sent it. But it's his karma catching up to him for cheating. Probably.

"I don't think she would ever listen. But I think I'll go back tonight." Khalifa expressed running his hand down his face. If he didn't go back, it would hurt her more that he didn't even try to talk to her. It would immediately mean he doesn't care enough to try and explain. Women say something to you, but they expect you to to do the opposite.

He knew from this moment on, things wouldn't be the same, but he hoped it would.

HALIMA leaned her head on her fist wiping her eyes before the tears fell. Whenever she closed her eyes, their picture and chats came to mind as she squeezed her eyes shut staring at the blank tv ahead of her. When she saw the picture, the first thing that came to mind was how long have they been together and why he would betray her for a woman who couldn't get her own husband.

She dropped off Iman at Khalifa's house telling his mother she wanted to bring her for thr weekend and she was happy to do it. She needed to be alone and collect her thoughts and that couldn't happen with iman around. She would easily notice that her father wasn't around and pick up the tension, and she didn't need her daughter being in the middle of her parent's mistakes.

The door was pulled open as light footsteps were heard. She didn't bother looking in the direction of the doorway as she fiddled with the button in the center of the throwpillow. She had an idea who it was and she didn't want to see him as of right now.

Khalifa took of his hoodie, leaving him in a plane white tee and the sweatpants he wore earlier. He dumped the hoodie on the chair that was facing him before walking his way to Halima who seemed out of it.

He kneeled in front of her so they were on the same eye level, but she didn't bother making eye contact with him as she stared straight ahead. It hurt her to even look at him.

"It was a mistake. I know I betrayed your trust for one meaningless night that risked me losing the people I'm living for- Can you at least look at me?" He breathed out but she didn't move an inch, only for her to start blinking her eyes repeatedly to hold back the tears that were threatening to spill. She wished she could cry it out. For the crying to soothe the pain in her chest, for her to forget about everything.

Khalifa's jaw clenched knowing he was the cause of her pain was doing something to him. There she was trying to work out their marriage a week ago but he wasn't even sure if she would actually care to fix their marriage now.

At least this is the perfect opportunity to leave him for Nasir, and he wouldn't have to find out about her being with someone when they were together. Halima thought to herself. Khalifa was someone she used to love, she was just holding onto him incase Nasir's plan backfires. But seeing him with another woman did something to her and she couldn't forgive him no matter what he said.

"She meant nothing halima. She doesn't even feel anything for me and I know this doesn't help but- it was both a mistake and we were both in the moment to snap to think of the consequences. I-" he let out a frustrated sigh as her gaze stayed unmoved.

"After six years and this is what you do. You cheat on me with someone who you have no idea how many people she slept with and you came back home to me, the clueless wife who was a backup plan. Incase things went left with the other person, you would come back to me to let off some steam like I was a cheap girl picked off the street. What she didn't know wouldn't hurt her. That was probably what you were thinking, right?" She let out a humorless laugh when she finished her sentence with her gaze transfixed on the blank tv.

She turned to look at him. "And you had the audacity to look at my face and complain to me how I was acting. I cried, beat myself up and worked my ass of to get early just to come back home to you. I wouldn't be suprised if you didn't even have meetings in Kaduna. You were probably there to see her, leaving your family in a another state. Your daugter. Your wife." She slapped her chest with her hands that were covered with her grey long sleeved shirt as tears started building up in her eyes.

"Our marriage has already been falling apart like you said and it was probably because of you. But I'm done fighting. There's no need to anymore. Please move out as soon as you can." She stated dryly as Khalifa stood at his full height with furrowed eyebrows. She couldn't be giving up, was their marriage not enough?

Halima pushed herself off the chair she was seated on about to leave the room, but was stopped when Khalifa reached out, gently taking a hold of her arm causing her to stop her movements but stayed with her back turned.

"W-We could try and work this out. Isn't our marriage worth fighting for?" Khalifa croaked out not being able to grasp that one of the people who believed in him, his anchor, his wife was giving up on what they had for his stupid decisions.

"You clearly showed me it wasn't." Was all Halima said as she snatched her arm out of his grasp leaving him standing there with regret. This wasn't based on emotion.

She was done.
