| The Dark Side Of Marriage |

YASMIN stared at her friend with her mouth slightly agape her eyes the size of saucers after what she heard her best friend say to her. She couldn't believe her ears. "You're joking right?" Was the only words she could form looking at her friend in disbelief.

Halima could only shake her head fighting back the tears that were threatening to spill but wiped them before they could. After that makeout session with Nasir, they went on and checked into a hotel and continued from where they stopped.

"No I'm not. And he might not even talk to me anymore. I mean I was quick to have sex with him and it was probably a turn off for him not to mention, he knows I am definitely not a virgin. What am I supposed to do?" She ranted placing her head in her hands feeling like her world was over and it was. Yasmin gave her a look letting out a breath as a laugh shaking her head not believing the shit coming out her friend's mouth.

"When was this?"

"Three weeks ago. When I came to his office, we usually just get into it and I leave after because he doesn't care to talk to me after."

"So you're having an affair, is that what you're saying?"

"Well-" Halima didn't get to finish when Yasmin cut her off not really in the mood to hear excuse after excuse.

"It's a yes or no question. So is it an affair or a one time thing?" Halima hanged her head low nodding her head.

"It was more than once." She admitted.

"Twice?"

"Nah it's more than that. Our relationship is based on that. That's what hurts me. Like I told you earlier, at first, we would get straight to it and leave after but he started keeping me around but we do sleep together whenever we got the opportunity." Halima shamefully admitted before holding her head in her hands. "What is he going to think of me? I'm probably a whore to him now." She sighed causing Yasmin to let out a breath as a laugh.

"Are you serious right now? You cheated on your husband with a guy you didn't know for a month and you don't even care about that, you're here crying thinking wbat he would feel about you. You know when I first saw the tears on forming in your eyes I thought you felt guilty for cheating on your husband and how you were going to face him and this is the shit you say?" She started at her in disbelief. She was living a comfortable life with a husband that loved her so much. Khalifa was handsome to her and she knew for a fact if she was in her shoes she wouldn't do half of the things she was doing.

Halima huffed picking up her things irritated her friend wasn't there for her when she needed her the most. "I'm having a midlife crisis and you're not helping in any way but to make me feel worse than I am feeling. With the way you're acting, I won't be suprised if you used this to hop on my husband. I knew you were envious of me but I overlooked it because you tried so hard to hide it but now, you can't hide shit." She spat picking up her bag looking for her keys.

Yasmin scoffed poking her tongue with her cheek hurt by what her closest friend just said to her. "You say you're in a midlife crisis but I know for a fact you put yourself in it. You went ahead and open your legs for a guy you haven't known for a month and you are here saying shit about me being envious. I'm not envious of you, It's just sad how someone could ruin her own life by her stupidity. If you told any of your friends this and they didn't react to it, they don't care or love you. But as your friend, I told you what was needed so we could find a solution to your problem and fix it and you even." She stopped running her tongue over her bottom lip letting out an irritated laugh.

"You even said I was envious of you. Do you know what your problem is, you were a sheltered bitch who thinks life is unfair to them when she hasn't seen shit people go through. I feel bad for the people around you who have to be stuck with a selfish, shallow and ignorant person like you. I'm done. Pick up your shit and get out of my fucking house before I lose my shit." She finshed snatching her phone off the coffee table going to the kitchen or drink some water.

Halima was taken aback by her words and it had clearly gotten to her but she refused to show it finding her keys on the carpet storming to the kitchen. "Then it is really sad how an ignorant woman like me can get a husband and you can't." Halima smiled leaving the kitchen with a smirk on her face whilst Yasmin's eyes glossed over. Halima knew how she felt about getting married and she also wanted to get back at her for all she said to her. And unfortunately, it did.

At least she had Sauda to go to

Halima poured herself some water gulping it down closing her eyes annoyed whenever she remembered her conversation with Namisha. She wasn't married in the first place to even understand what she was going through and she wouldn't get a husband if she continued acting like this.

"Ouu I wish I said something more hurtful." She slammed the glass on the counter causing some of the water to spill on the marble counter. She soon felt arms wrap around her from behind. It comforted her everytime but Yasmin's words had gotten to her and she would find a way for her to regret saying that to her.

Khalifa nuzzled his head in the crook of her neck placing a peck on it glancing at the cup she held tightly in her grasp and the spilled water on the counter. He quirked a brow seeing that but kept quiet waiting for the time she would start talking like she usually did. When she didn't, he decided to asked her.

"What's wrong?"

Silence.

"Halima."

Silence.

He let out a breath getting irritated by her actions unwrapping his arms around her spinning her around backing the counter. She furrowed her eyebrows as he looked down at her chewing his inner lip in thought. He leaned down taking her lips in his wrapping his arms around her but she was quick to push him back turning her head to the side.

"I'm not in the mood." He raised a brow when she said that. It has been two months since they had been intimate and that was the day before she stood up iman. She had been acting distant and weird lately and he was tired of that.

"I can see that. So I'm going to ask you again, what's going on?" He asked again in a sterner tone but Halima didn't budge from her spot.

"I told you, it's nothing. I just got into it with Yasmin. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less." She finally turned to him giving him a tight lipped smile. Khalifa clenched his jaw, pressing his lips together refraining himself from acting out.

He placed his hands on both her sides on the counter. "Now I don't know where you got this attitude but you need to pipe down. You know I'm not with that." He said lowly maintaining eye contact. She sighed nodding her head letting her arms drop to her sides.

"Sorry. I just came back from work and Yasmin irritated me. I was losing it." She apologized poking her bottom lip out.

"What did she say now? You never got into it before and we have together for seven years." Khalifa wondered. They were always together if it was gossiping about people or getting matching bags or shoes. So to hear them fight was something suprising to him.

Halima's words got caught in her throat. She could never tell him the reason because he would flip out and won't hear another word she has to say so she rolled her eyes like she was annoyed by the thought of it but she was screaming inside.

"The girl was telling me about her boyfriend and how she cheated on him with her ex so told her straight up it was wrong but she got defensive." She crossed her arms over her chest twisting the story a bit, her voice laced with attitude

Khalifa nodded before his phone started ringing. He fished it out of his pocket sliding his thumb across the screen answering the phone call putting the phone to his ear. Halima unintentionally released a breath out of relief the conversation was cut short.

"Yeah?" Khalifa made a face glancing at Halima before walking out of the kitchen to continue the call. She felt her heart stopping for a moment wondering who was on the phone with him.
