Vows and Memories

"In the world of promises and swears, I would like to make this 'unbreakable vow' that I'll never leave your side, that I'll be with you, 'always'" - listless awake.

Carter was conflicted when he got to the pier where Alessia was hanging out. To say the least she was furious at him for ever going to Roswell factory. Alessia was coming outside of The Fisherman's lounge with steam coming out of her ears fuming.

"What the hell Carter!!! You can't just go wandering around town without one of us! Valerio told me everything, Nathan too." Alessia shouted at him.

"I'm sorry! You guys keep secrets from me so I took it to my use to go find answers for my self! It's understandable that you've vowed your life to have this town secret stay hidden, but if it involves me, my family I would certainly like to know everything. Start speaking Alessia or I'm gone." Carter snapped back at her.

"Carter I value my life, and my secrets. If you understand then you shouldn't be looking. Now look what you've done! Grandma Finch isn't going to be exactly happy about this. She'll never forgive you." Alessia breathes out as he got even closer.

"I would like to know, why I feel such a strong connection between us Nora." Carter whispered out. His eyes searching hers for answers but all he found was confliction and sadness and anger. He cupped her face with his hands begging her to tell him.

"Please Nora." He begged, but Alessia stepped away as Valerio stepped out. Carters eyes darted to the man who was standing near Zara.

"Carter, come walk with me. We have matters to discuss." Zara commanded him. He glanced back at Nora, who looked away from him making him purse his lips into a thin line. He brushed passed her which got a reaction of her shivering at his touch, making him smirk slightly and made his way over to Zara.

He sighed knowing what this conversation would bring him. He had a choice to make, a vow, or a memory wipe.

"I don't need to speak with you about what had happened at Roswell, but I just wanted you to know. That it was very very stupid of what you did. You could've gotten killed, or worse injured. You're lucky I like you Carter, because anyone else would've been set straight out of this town with a memory wipe. No choice at all.  And plus I'm sure your grandmother wouldn't ever forgive me, she is a ruthless woman, your grandmother." Zara said

"I know, I've already got it from Nathan. Can I at least think about this? Until tomorrow after school?" He asked

"Of course, but it must be done before, not after. We cannot risk daylight in this town. You must know that after your first night here yes?" Zara said folding her hands behind her back and looked at him in the eyes.

"Yes, my grandmother told me. What is the time I should come down?" He sighed out.

" You have until 5 am in the morning, set an alarm if you must. Come with what you've decided and we'll do just that." She said

"And if I choose the Vow?" He asked cocking his head to the right as if searching for answers in her eyes.

"You will be with me for the time being. If your grandmother catches word of this she will be disappointed, this town is very dear to her. If the memory wipe is chosen, you will feel a bit sick for a few days so it'll be best to stay away from school. But until you've recovered, you can carry on your way as if nothing has ever happened." Zara said

"Has anyone ever recovered their memories?" He asked

"Some have remembered, but doing it too much to one person, will result them forgetting everything in their entire life. Memory wipe is a very risky move if you ask me, but we do have a powerful being on our hands that is able to do so."

He hissed out frustrated that none of these words helped him figure out what he wanted to do. Anything was risky, feeing the pain of the Sealed Vow, or risk having your memories wiped forever. It may seem obvious on what he should do, but he knew it wasn't that easy. His grandmother would never forgive him.

"And what about answers, Zara?" He asked.

"I know you want to know really badly, Alessia has to be the one to tell you. She has to, your grandmother will eventually tell you some snippets, but the rest of us have vows that we made to the console. So please be patient." She pleaded with him. He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, he didn't want to wait for answers, but he knew the risk now of everything being found out.

He didn't want to do either of these choices, but it has to be made, he had decided that he would do the Sealed Vow, he didn't want to risk the feeling of your memories wanting to be wiped away, he didn't want to lose the memory of having his family ripped away from him by death. He felt a tear trickle down his face and quickly covered it up.

He took a breath and told her what he wanted to do. "I want to do the vow, do it now to get it over with."

"Are you positive you want to do this, Nathan must've told you that you'll be stuck with me for a week, missing school." She said putting a hand on his shoulder

"Yes." He said determined to do this.

"Very well then, come along and say goodbye to Alessia." Zara said. He followed her towards the group that gathered in the dirt lot waiting to hear what he has to say to them.

" I have chosen to do the Sealed Vow. I will make a promise to never break it." He said. He met Nora's gaze, which flashed with worry and concern.

"No! You can't! It's too dangerous to do it on a human, you know that Zara." Nora said

"You know he's much more than that Sia, everyone knows." Zara said as her eyes flashed golden to make Nora step down from creating a scene.

He took a breath and walked towards Nora, pulling her into a hug. Not having any reason to do this, but knowing he wouldn't be seeing her for a while.

"What was that for?" Nora breathed out tickling his ears

"You know." He whispered back. He leaned back and kissed her forehead and he saw a small trickle of wetness fall down, he caught it before it did.

"I'll be fine sunshine, I promise I will come back and protect you. For now, keep Nathan by your side." He said

Nora didn't say anything but let go and nodded at him, giving him the ok to go.

"Time to go outsider, you and I will have so much fun together." Zara said almost seductively, Nora hissed at Zara as she touched Carters shoulders and continued to guide him where Valerio was.

"Don't worry dear Sia, I won't let anyone hurt your boy." Zara snickered out grinning that she got a reaction out of Nora. He rolled his eyes at Zara and continued to walk towards the car.

"After you." Valerio said in a clipped tone, Carter assumed that he was still pissed that Carter hadn't listened to him.

"I didn't know that chivalry was still alive." He snorted grinning at Valerio making him push Carters head down and shove him in the car.

"Don't think anything of this Outsider." Valerio growled out as he got into the drivers seat. Carter glanced out the window and saw that Zara and Nora where having some heated conversation about something.

"I don't think I'll be thinking much of all by the time you are done with me." He grumbled out.

"Always one with the dramatics." Zara sighed out as she reached the passengers side, he saw that Nora was staring at him through the window, Nathan was trying to turn her away from the mess that he got himself into.

"let's go lover boy, I want to get this shit show over with." Zara said

Valerio grunted and started the engine and pulling off to wherever his next destination was.

*~*~*~*~*~~**~

They finally pulled up to the destination which led them to a mansion, which means it was Zara's house. She was the mayor after all.

"Valerio would be so kind and help the boy out of the car." Zara ordered not taking her eyes off the house. It was as though she was looking for anything misplaced.

"I can get out myself!" He hissed out at her reaching for the door but, Valerio was already there opening the door making him stumble face first onto the ground.

"Bastard. You did that on purpose." Carter spat as he got up and brushed himself off.

"Nope, that was all on you." Valerio said as he walked towards Zara.

" Val, keep an eye out would you? Somethings not right." Zara whispered, but Carter had clearly caught it making him alert to look around for anything out of place.

"If you think something's not right Zara dear, why didn't you say so." A voice sounded from right behind Zara.

"Shit! You bastard, what have I told you about doing that to me." Zara cursed turning on the man. Valerio stepped in front of her to protect her.

"Well, I was just making sure that your house is just the way you wanted it. I did try not to mess it up." The man said sheepishly. Carter took the time to assess the man in front of them, him being on the drivers side of the car still didn't get much of a full figure but his face. He had a beard covering most of his face and his black hair was disheveled as though he had just gotten out of bed or ran his hands through them out of stress. He looked to be about the age Thirty with a broad shoulder and body. Almost like a body builder, like one of Zara's guards that he saw.

His green eyes then snapped to Carters as if he felt him staring at him.

"Whose this Zara? You could've told me we were having guests tonight!" The man exclaimed.

"He's not important Apollo, you just keep yourself on your toes." She said patting his cheek, which made him blink a few times.

"Of course ma'am." Apollo nodded to Carter and then turned his attention back to Zara.

"I have some business to attend to with the young boy, so if you two don't mind, I would like to not be disturbed in my office." Zara signed out.

"Of course, I will see to that ma'am." Apollo nodded

"Let's go Outsider." Zara commanded, he sighed and followed her like he was a lost puppy. He didn't want to be here, but as rumplestiltskin always said, magic always comes with a price, and the vow was his price.

He followed Zara inside trailing closely behind her and Valerio. Apollo had already went inside Carter saw the two men that were her guards at either side of the door. The inside mansion was extravagant, marble floors and a staircase in the middle leading up to both landings, there was a seating area, two lounge chairs the color black and a glass table with a lamp as if for reading on the right side of the walk way.

There was plants in almost every corner of the room, and there were a few doors on the bottom floor leading to places he didn't know.

"We will be going straight upstairs to my office, then we will get you settled in, until 11 am we will discuss matters of your condition. During the Vow trial, I will ask you a series of questions of what had happened, and you will promise to never speak of it. If you decide to lie about what will happen there, you will be in immense pain for the rest of the Vow. It will be painful Carter, you may be in pain for the next couple of days. And when we start, you can never go back." Zara explained to him as they reached the office door.

"Are you sure you want to do this Carter?" She asked

"I'm already here, so why not start. No going back right?" He said

"Of course." She said her eyes gave away concern but covered it quickly as she opened the double doors to her office. It was a wide room, the room and a giant window to the backyard a wide granite desk with a computer and files on the desk messy papers scattered every where. A couch to the side of the room and a bath room to the left side, a tall man was staring out the window.

"Lord Mikhail, to what do I owe the pleasure?" Zara asked, the man didn't turn around at the sign that his presence was noticed.

"I have come to oversee this vow, and I do wish to meet the Outsider. Boy, Jameson told me all about your antics, wanting to find answers. You'll never find out anything." Lord Mikhail said his deep voice booming around the room.

Zara flinched at his tone. "It's not like Carter wasn't drawn to the place My lord."

"Like moth to lamp. He will be punished for his actions, you realize this Zara. Because he is a guest in this town, he will have to be punished for whatever he has seen at Roswell." Lord Mikhail said

" Finch won't approve of this, you know how she is." Zara said

"No, she won't. But this on the boy, not his grandmother." Lord Mikhail sighed. His tone almost held regret but covered it quickly with something else.

"We're wasting daylight Lord Mikhail, shall we get this over with?" She asked halting anyone before they said anymore.

"Yes, yes of course." Lord Mikhail said waving his hand dismissively.

"Now, Carter, please join me in the center of the room, hold your hand out." Zara instructed as she glided over towards the center circle of the room design. He did as he was told to get the mess over with, he held his hand out letting Zara grab on to his wrist and he did the same.

Suddenly, without warning a golden band surround them, it burned him making him grunt out in pain.

"Carter I will begin asking you a series of questions."

"What did you see at the Roswell factory?"

"An alter-" He was stopped by an immense tightening from the band making him drop down to his knees.

"You'll only make this harder on yourself, answer it truthfully and it won't hurt as much." Zara said crouching so that she wouldn't be able to let go of his wrist that was already bounded to her.

"Fine- I saw a wolf, scars on the side of the building wall. Long and nasty. Then the shadow figure came. He said that he didn't want to tell me answers, told me that I won't be able to leave town anymore than I wanted to. I guess you could say it's a curse." He hissed out as the band wound out tighter.

Why was it tightening? He was telling the truth!

"Tell me more Carter." Zara commanded him.

"That is all that I saw there! What the shadow figure said was true, I did see his eyes blazing red when I started to get cornered by the damn wolf." He rushes out panicking as it tightened even more, making him yelp out in pain. He wanted to let go, but he knew it was pointless. There was no going back.

"Vow to me carter, vow to me that you will never speak of Roswell, Vow that you will never speak of what we tell you about our town."

"But I-" He was cut off by the searing pain.

"Swear to it Carter Finch!"

"I swear!" He growled out from the pain that was searing through him from his wrist. It was still there once Zara let go of his wrist making him clutch his wrist bending over in pain. He glanced at his wrist and saw a design wrapping around his hand making it clear that he was vowed to them forever.

"Finch. Now you will be taken into your room for the night." Zara said. He didn't bother looking up because he felt her gaze on his back, if looks could kill, he probably would be dead already.

He sighed and let guards lift him up, he felt too weak to stand up. He didn't know if it was because of the pain, or he felt like he was going to pass out. He stumbled into the room and flopped onto the bed. He wanted to take all of the clothes off he had on him.

Is this the side affects of the vow? Or is it because I'm physically weak?

He felt exhausted, he wanted to take a shower but he also wanted to go to sleep, just sleep the pain away. Sleep the sickness away. He took his clothes off until he was in his boxers and went under his covers shivering as he went.

He closed his eyes, hoping to not dream. Hoping to not have any nightmares.

As soon as he closed his eyes, all hopes were lost.
