Chapter 4: Nightmares

October 28, 2022

~Over one year ago~

Man she was beautiful.

I was so excited to see my girlfriend Lindsey today. It's been a couple of days since I've seen her face to face since she had been out of town over the weekend. I heard from one of my friends that she had decided to host a party this upcoming weekend. It would have been my first party since I didn't really do that sort of thing, but I think it'll be fun.

Of course, me and her would not partake in any of the drinking that would go on. We both decided before hand to stay sober so we don't make any dumb decisions. I went over to her house the day of the party and she seemed happier than usual.

"Why are you so happy today?" I asked.

"You know why" She said as if I really did know.

"Actually I really don't" I explained, "today is the party, I know that, but if we're not drinking then it can't get too crazy right?

She looked at me confused, then got closer to me. I was a bit surprised as she did this. She leaned towards me and our lips met. It was for only a second. She put her mouth up to my ear after our kiss.

"I am here with you, that is why I am happy." She said.

I hate to admit it but I blushed a little after hearing this. I kissed her back, a little longer than the first one. Sometimes it felt nice to be reassured that she loved me and enjoyed being around me.

~Skipping to the party~

I had arrived back at her house. Her parents were out of town and the only supervision at that house was her older brother Karl. He was a bit of a jerk if I'm being honest.

I knocked at the door and heard someone running down to it. It was one of my best friends named Josh who was holding a beer in both of his hands.

"Hey man I thought you wouldn't be drinking tonight" I said.

"Bro two beers aint gonna do nothing to this" He said as he pointed at his head.

"Whatever dude" I said disappointingly.

He didn't noticed my disappointment. He just turned around and walked back inside. I walked inside only to see your typical high school party full of drinking, card games, and more drinking. I walked past everyone and started to look around for Lindsey. I saw many girls at the party but none looked as captivating as Lindsey did.

After ten minutes of looking around for her, I decided to put it to rest. She is probably just hanging out with her friends, I thought. I sat down at the couch and observed everything that was going on around me. The people in front of me, I don't really know them by name, were playing beer pong in front of me. One of them saw me sitting by myself and asked me if I wanted to join in. I said no, knowing that there was a lot of drinking involved. They shrugged and continued playing.

Twenty minutes had passed and I still hadn't seen Lindsey. Sadness washed over me as I thought she would be anxiously waiting for me to arrive. I tried to find Josh and see if he knew where she was, but I couldn't find him either.

I decided to go upstairs, thinking that she might be in her room. I didn't feel the need to knock on the door since I didn't think anything crazy would be going on in there. I turned the nob and slightly pushed open the door. As I looked through that door, I saw something that would horrify me for the rest of my life.

I can't even put into words how painful it was to see.

I found Lindsey, sitting on her bed, with someone else. Not just anyone. It was Josh. They were kissing each other passionately without remorse. I almost threw up in my mouth at the horror of the situation.

What made it even worse were the drinks that were placed on her dresser. It wasn't just the two drinks that Josh had, but there was even more drinks. I knew that she had been drinking as well, something that she had promised me a long time ago that she wouldn't do.

I knew that at this very moment our, relationship was over. I left the room, slamming the door behind me. I charged out of the house as she screamed after me to come back. I didn't listen. I went straight to my house, out of breathe from the running.

I opened the door and slammed it behind me. I was so angry at Lindsey that I didn't even care how hard I slammed the door.

"Honey I made taquitos!" My mom called out to me.

I didn't listen. I went straight to my room and started repeating to myself,

Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out.

It didn't work. It was too late.

The darkness had returned.

Everybody has things

They wish not to recall

But into each life

Some rain must fall...
